In my experience, most people have a throat space between 5.5 and 7 inches wide, and while that is a snug squeeze, I’ve free motion quilted up to double size quilts in throat spaces this small. These tips come from those experiences. Don’t be afraid to tackle the big quilt- just take it one step, one block, one section at a time!

Thank you for keeping it real! I am so fed up of clicking on a quilting video that promises to teach me how to quilt at home only to see they are using the $£€1000+ premium Juki or worse, a mini long armer! You watch and they are not even having to turn the quilt. Please, many of us don't have those machines and need to learn to quilt on what we have. It's off putting to newbies especially, I think along with all the demos featuring different unnecessary rulers and gadgets some are convinced they need a lot to even start a quilting hobby. I've had comments from people to that effect. It makes me sad, it used to be very simple. Great video!❤️

I quilt on several machines of several size, but I always enjoy sharing that the best place to start is with the machine you already have :-)

Thank you! Everyone on KZbin seems to either use a longarm or use a tiny example. I really appreciate it.

Great tips in a concise format. Also love the mention to gravity being 9.8 meters per second squared 🙂

You are helping me so much. I was so frustrated doing a large crib quilt. My first time doing that. But am also working on a queen size quilt for my grandson. And I was almost in tears because I didn't want to do ties.

You can do this, Rockstar! Take it slow, drink lots of water, and it will be done before you know it!!

Getting ready to quilt my 60x72 quilt on my Singer HD 44S. I’m really scared but really excited at the same time. I’ve consulted with the professional quilt shop and just don’t feel like putting the money into it right now - if ever. Thank you for this tutorial. God bless you!

Great video. I'm trying to rustle up the nerve to machine quilt my king size quilt I'm making for myself. I really don't want to pay the money to have it long armed. I agree with all your posture tips, unbelievable how much that helps! Using a Singer Heavy Duty so I have a really small throat.

In the same boat. ... Definitely avoiding $200+ to get it long-armed

My 90's Husqy likes a walking foot and allows me to straight quilt successfully. I did buy the darn foot or quilting foot made for this machine and it was a disaster trying to quilt on a large quilt. I had to unpick. It will be useful for my next attempt however, which will be qayg blocks. Easy to manage size as you attempt the free motion quilting.

I just bought the Singer Quantum Stylist 9960. How do you like it? Do you have any videos of tips, tricks and advice on this machine? I want to sew quilted project bags. Will this machine handle it?

Thank you! I'm having this exact issue in a very small space with limited furniture + a standard machine. The pulling from the quilt top's own weight is... not excellent. How do you keep a top from sliding with the base + batting layers?

Try pinning it all over the place. Time consuming but it might work for you.

Do you start in the middle of a large quilt or at the sides?

I start in the middle and work outward. That has worked best for me so far as the hardest part is the start and it gets easier as you go 🪡😊

attempting to run new fabric enclosing a sleeping bag turned comforter; flannel on one, & acrylic on the other side, using an older Singer 626. this wasn't particularly helpful on the aspects of running long stretches of sewing & getting a straight long seam, tension, foot-down/up? or guiding the material or recommending a walking foot or not,/ what to use to handle thicker layers/materials through the actual process of sewing.. : troubleshooting was missed. as a complete novice, getting myself physically positioned w/ the machine became apparent quickly to optimize the process. My old singer, hardly used, got one run (about 6 feet) before the timing was completely out of whack, adjusting /stopping multiple times even to get that far. finally it stopped as needle was hitting the bobbin case; so: off to find the tutorials on how to set my timing as it loses timing/gets locked down rather frequently. / just was hoping for more.
