I’ve got a whole Madoka, CCS, and AOT collection too if you’re into it!

Madoka too?? So jealous 😩 I have an Evangelion themed office with loads of figures so I’m always super interested in seeing other’s collections. It’s so fun!

I’ve been getting a lot of comments about this, and my Asuka and my Mari were also suspiciously under $20. They definitely have real Ichiban Kuji versions (with cardboard) but these smell rank as heck with plastic smell. Mari is even gummy and sticky now 😢

Ichiban Kujis don't usually have bootlegs but when they do they have different box design and don't have a base, also their faces look off. But seeing your copy I think those are legit, maybe those are second hand that was stored in a chemical factory or the previous owner repainted them with cheap paints hence the smell and stickiness. 😬

Didn’t know you had Eva merch! You’ll have to show us one day!

I have a couple of Sailor Moon figures bootleg. Sometimes, I just want to compare them with each other. 🌹🌙💖

There’s no changing this pronunciation. I’ve been deep in the Eva fandom almost as long as I have been into SM lol

The asuka is not bootleg. It's an ichiban kuji figure, the design is nice but quality is a bit meh...

Hi! Apologies for any confusion. Mine is a bootleg of the very real Kuji figure. I have a number of Kuji’s and both she and this Mari still absolutely STINK of nasty plastic chemical scent. Since I filmed this- Mari is extremely gummy and sticky. Oh! Also the price was especially sus when I got them- def a learning for me and I wish we had smells on videos haha.

I'm so confused.. was my comment deleted? lol I was saying that the Asuka and Mari here are genuine and they did come with cardboard inserts. I know this because they are prize figures and I own the Mari in it's original packaging, but also I reference MyFigureCollection to make sure if something's bootleg.
@SailorTortillaАй бұрын
Not seeing another comment, but thanks for chiming in with the info about the cardboard! :( As much as I really wish mine were legit- they have a distinct plasticy smell that usually goes away with legit figures. Mari’s hands are now sticky and gross over time D:

In the US, bootleg stuff gets into prize machines often, depending on who runs the machines...I don't see why Japan would be different tbh and why something being in a prize machine guarantees it's authenticity. I don't collect any figures tho so what do I know lol.

@@SailorTortilla Ah okay. not sure what happened there 😅 I guess my comments glitched out or something. In regards to the sticky plastic, this can still be common with some prize figures today. Older additions of Nendoroids are a great example of this, as they use a Plasticizer that would be used to soften the PVC used in the sculpts, but the byproduct was that they were very sticky to the touch over time and a monster to try and clean lol. (My biggest offender is my original release Vocaloid nendos that I never take out of the box anymore because of how sticky they get. Otherwise I would need to clean them with soap and water every couple of months ) The plasticizer they used could be for a number of reasons, most likely to soften the PVC to make the hair and body more flexible and less prone to breaking while cutting costs for other methods used. There are also many authentic figures to this day that have an extreme plastic/chemical smell to them, so that doesn't always indicate a bootleg either imo. I reference MFC here also because there's high likelihood that if a bootleg was present, MFC would have that reported in the site's database for you to reference, especially if it's a well-known line of figures like IK. I'm only speaking out of my experience as a collector though. I own over 320+ different figures from different lines and companies, so I was hoping to maybe help give you some reassurance on your EVA figures, but if you're convinced that they're bootleg, then they're bootleg and I won't contest that further 👍I just enjoy talking about the subject and providing insight where It could be helpful.
