Lol. The rod I showed in the video is my favorite for Swimbaits. I never even look at any other rod for swimbaits. Daiwa NC902MHFS And this rod is also great for casting jerkbaits around kelp and rocks for halibut. It's extremely accurate and sensitive. You'll feel everything. You'll feel your jerkbait vibrate, no wobble when fouled with weed. The fast action gives you control for working baits around all that snaggy stuff. A lot of technique and skill develop here and its part of what makes Halibut fishing so damn fun! So if intend to tie on the swimbait to fish around heavy structure at all that day, even a little, I am reaching for that NC902MHFS. Love it! That being said, it's not the best rod for targeting striped bass with jerkbaits. It will certainly do the job. But the fast stiff action doesn't absorb their big powerful headshakes as well as a long lighter/slower action rod would. So if I am casting the jerkbait exclusively, then I look for a Medium weight rod, and maybe a longer one too. I am experimenting at this time with all kinds of jerkbait rods, so check back in with me in a year. If you're fishing heavy structure exclusively, with a jerkbait exclusively, for halibut, wsb, rock fish, calico, then you should totally get the Medium version of the same rod I mentioned for swimbaits. The NC902MFS is a perfect rod for fishing jerkbaits around heavy structure for halibut, or any big fish. But I don't like it for swimbaits, it's not quite stiff enough. That's what the MH is for. In that case, you might like the Phenix Trifecta Lite for Jerkbaits, and then the Daiwa North Coast NC903MHFS for swimbaits. Yup! ;D @@addicted2fishing119

The trifecta lite won't have as much control as the NC around that heavy structure. I would rather use the NC Medium 9' for jerkbait and the NC MH 9' for swimbait. If fishing around kelp and rocks, that's my personal preference. But if strictly sandy beach, then go for the Trifecta lite. ;)

Do you think March is too early for Halibut shore fishing?

What county brother? If you’re anywhere south of point conception then it’s not too early. South of OC, some years (cold water years) then March might be early, it might not pick up till April or May. This year water is warm and it’s happening now, get out there. Regardless, if I lived down south I’d take a swing at em all year long. In SLO county, I think it warms up a little later .. Sometimes June-Aug is prime. But I think maybe this year is might get going early I’ll prob start going after em soon. I’m not familiar enough with fisheries north of SLO so I can’t speak for Monterey or SF Bay. Not sure how their seasonal timing compares.

Your first line instantly let me know uh nope you’re not that guy! Sorry buddy good luck with that battle star ! There’s Much more effective ways to catch halibut than those stupid stick baits! Shit even better stickbaits than the bs. Yeah your right they work well south of slo county, I bet lucky craft work better but north nah! Even swim baits better north.
