For those who have received their diagnosis, know that it’s not the end of your life. It will be a new journey for you and your family, but things will always get better. Stay strong 💪🏽

Hey Derek! I think one of the things that I wish I could’ve had probably about 1520 years ago would be knowing people or groups to help get through my vision loss. Of course, my vision was not as bad as it is now. So back then, I struggle, but Not to the degree as I do now. But it would’ve still been nice to talk to someone back in the day. Today, I am very thankful for your KZbin channel, the blind life channel, and carry on accessibility. And, of course, all the others that I have stumbled across over the years. Bline to billionaire for sure also. So, Derek, thank you so much for all that you do coming every week to make videos like this. You truly have been such a great inspiration and full of so much wisdom and guidance!😊

I wish that when I was diagnosed, and started using a cane, people didn’t actually confront me about my sight problems! It was extremely difficult to adapt to my new situation, but having people actually confronting me about how much vision I had left, was something extra I really didn’t need to be dealing with at that time! Its been 18 years now that I’ve been dealing with my situation, and for the most part my life is as normal as it can be, I’m happy with it and have adapted well, so my advice to anyone just starting their journey is, as Derek says, find organisations etc that can help and advise you, and like me, you may find others who are in your position and make friends through your shared experience, it was invaluable to find people who knew what I was going through. It may be a bumpy road ahead but you will get to the other side, and with a few new skills!

Wish I had known then it wasn’t the end of the world. I remember when my doctor told me I was legally blind in the one eye I could see out of, as I had lost all my sight in my other eye a year prior. I argued with him, and went straight into denial. Only three months later when I nearly got into a car accident, not my fault, but that was the wake-up call I needed. 15 years later, I’m still here! 👍🏼

V.I.P i like that one :D .. i had lost eye sight in one eye in 2003 and lost eye sight in my other eye in 2019 right before covid. I was freaking out at the doctor i cried big tears snotty nose everything for a guy my age 51 .. yeah tough time completely knocked me on my ass and really felt i had to learn how to walk again so to speak, what i didn;t know how to use Voice Over and NVDA i was so annoyed by its not responding to me how i was used to it. Better instructions for complete new beginners on screen readers would of been nice. Altho it does take time to really learn and now i have found the screen readers have opened up my world again and i am so happy i kept on trying .. i joke sometimes 'i feel like i had to grow a whole new brain just to learn all this; :) thanks man great videos and really good to listen to videos like this. Greets Mak and enjoy the things you do.

For me, it would’ve been great to have had a list of resources from my doctor to say hey this is what you need to start looking into so I came home and I had to start researching on my own, and when I did, I eventually came upon the lighthouse for the blind Unfortunately Covid came and the lighthouse for the blind essentially shut down they’re waiting. Even pre-Covid was several months just to get somebody to talk to you and to me that was ridiculous. It should’ve been somebody available immediately to talk to I was leading to a new journey 100% on my own for more than six months between what little resources I had i.e. the lighthouse, not responding and Covid preventing everybody from being able to do anything. It was so miserable so I would say my biggest wish, would happen to have somebody to provide a list of resources And it should’ve been my doctor
