This is probably the best, most practical, "how to" take it to the next level video I've seen. It takes a shooter beyond the basics, and suggests subtle hints often overlooked. This video takes us beyond basic mechanics of avoiding bow torque, controlling breathing, relaxing grip, and aligning peep. Sean suggests a focus on muscle relaxation of the grip hand, forward shoulder, back muscles, neck and face. Also poignant are his comments about the pressure of the release hand to anchor point.

After not shooting for quite a few years, I purchased a new compound bow and have been shooting for the last two months. Although I've finally accomplished a bullseye grouping at 20 yards, I just don't feel comfortable and struggle with it each session. Can't wait to try a few of your tips tomorrow. Seriously! Especially relaxing the muscles in my neck and shoulder. Looking forward it. And thanks for the video ....spent about an hour looking for one good one and you're it.

I agree on everything especially the poundage. I haven't shot over 60# for years. I can shoot all day without tiring. A game changer for me was the Garmin Xero sight. I've always been terrible about judging distance when shooting at large game. I hated having to use the range finder. With the Garmin I'm on every time and no extra movement. Great video as always.

All of the tips here are great except for the last one. I've been in fitness for a long time and I know that "time under tension" is actually the best thing for muscles to increase in strength and endurance. I recommend making a change to the way you train your students. If dropping the poundage a little helps them to be able to shoot 10 arrows in a row, then those muscles will adapt to the adversity and they will be able to incrementally increase their poundage and have much steadier form when the shot counts. I learned from an Olympic archer and was taught by physical therapists and fitness trainers, regarding muscle adaptation. It is much better to train those muscles aggressively with time under tension. Shooting 200 arrows a day would be a feasible goal for any beginner.
@seansoutdoors4 жыл бұрын
I disagree with you. When people are not able to hold steady because their muscles are too strained, they begin to develop bad habits trying to compensate in an effort to shoot better. What you are talking about should be done in the weight room when trying to work out and strengthen muscle, not while trying to advance in the fine art of archery while the bow is in your hand. In essence, you are suggesting using a hammer on a painting that actually needs a paint brush. The key I've noticed with you, based on the post you made with all the scripture quotes and incorrect conclusion of Catholicism is that there are key important details you've overlooked and so drew the wrong conclusion because of applying decent sounding ideas in a situation where they are actually counterproductive and bad advice. God bless you.

@@seansoutdoors That's why I said they should lower the draw weight to be able to give their muscles time under tension while holding good form. You must not have understood that part

There's two ways to be deceived. 1. To believe what's not true 2. To refuse to believe what is true.
@seansoutdoors4 жыл бұрын
@@ScottWConvid19 So which one is it for you, because if you are not Catholic and you want to follow Jesus, then you sure missed something? The sad fact is that many Christians don't realize that the Bible was put together by the Catholic Church (Because the Church has the authority given by Christ Matthew 16:16-19 fulfilling Isaiah 22:20-24.) So, the Bible was put together in the 4th century by the Catholic Church. What did Christians follow the first three centuries? It was the oral teachings of the Apostles and their successors the bishops. Read the early writings and Church Fathers. They all taught that Jesus is truly present in the Eucharist. They all taught infant baptism. They all taught devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. Then in the 16th Century, a Catholic priest defected from the Church and changed the wording in the Bible in Romans 3:28 in order to try to support his idea that Faith alone will save you. Now all non-Catholic Christians (other than the Orthodox Church) have been formed out of this man's lie. These are the facts. Sadly, many Christians don't even know why the Bible is titled the Old Testament and New Testament, which refers to the covenants that God made with humanity to save us from sin and death. And the only place where Jesus tells us what the New Covenant is is at the Last Supper. Read 1 Corinthians 11:23-32 or Luke's Gospel. Then read John 6:51-59 and tell me what Jesus is talking about. Then read John 6:60 and 6:66 They struggled to believe Jesus meant it literally that we must eat his flesh and drink his blood, and because of that the disciples of Jesus left him because they didn't want to believe Jesus meant what he said in John 6:51-59 but that is exactly how we enter into the New Testament (Covenant). These are the facts, this is the truth. Come home to Jesus' Church and you will be able to fully enter into the New Covenant. God bless you.
