Tami, I don’t know if this helps but you can try placing another needle under the white of the highlight when you do the other eye to keep it from pulling it out when you do the other eye. I have such a struggle with embroidery. Gonna practice on a hoop to try different ways. Thanks for sharing ❤

You should try the clover jumbo darning needle. It's aluminum or some type of metal. It's my favorite needle.
