For the spool of copper you can cut through the middle with your cutters to do it much faster. You can also tie the end of the copper wire to a drill bit and use your drill to unspool it that way but use a long bit.

One video I'd love to see is what's copper and what's brass. You see even though I'm a scrapper myself I'm red green color blind. So if i don't immediately know from experience then it automatically goes into brass. So I've always wondered how much copper I've turned in for brass.

I guess copper is reddish orange and brass is yellowish or if it's coated in zinc then will be silverish. At least that's how I sort my metals. Hope I'm not wrong

@@reddemmamudirini7332 if a person is red/green color blind then they cannot see the reddish hue of copper. Thus, copper and brass look exactly alike.

Absolutely awesome brother I agree with most people Beryllium Oxide if it's pink rap in tape before dismantling you do not want that in the workshop always outside with a respirator not a fancy dust mask. The stuff is toxic and should be avoided if possible. How ever if it's whitey grey then it's aluminium oxide carry on regardless. Great episode brother

The pink stuff is probably alumina with added CrO2. I have some beryllia tubes that are plain white, and I've seen magnetrons in all different colors. You probably don't want to breathe any powdered ceramic dust, but you're right, beryllia is the bad one. Just breaking it into pieces isn't really hazardous but if you're going to grind on it, try to do it under water or mineral oil to prevent dust.

Micro scrapping is so great!!❤❤ it's a vastly underrated pass time 🥰 And there's an easier way to get that bottom plate off the magnetron. Grip the plate on the edge (just next to the folded tab) with pliers, grips, or even a small Cresent wrench, and pry/bend away from the fold; repeat on the other side if needed. Be careful, it tends to pop or release quickly😁

@@scrapitall200 my friend, I just got done scrapping 5 old CRT TVs and boy oh boy. I hit the mother load of copper, these TV's were from the late 70's to early 80's. The circuit boards were the old brown and thick. I am holding them as I believe they will have silver soldier and a lot of goodies on the boards as well. I found all of them in a pile beside the road. They ranged from 19" to 27" and some were Toshiba's , Apex, RCA and the others are Sanyo. But all of them are old. I am going to put all the components off the boards and see if I can extract the silver from them. I will get some pics and send them to you and get your thoughts on it. "Therapeutic" is probably the main reason I enjoy microscrapping. The time/$ ratio is not great, but it speaks to my fastidious nature. That said, I also don't know how to find enough to keep me busy, either. Some scrappers I enjoy watching go dumpster-diving, but my legs won't handle that. Would love some ideas where to find higher quantities of scrappables.

That’s awesome! Try looking on facebook marketplace for free stuff. Even online auctions are a great source to buy bulk stuff for super cheap. Place some ads in a local paper saying you will collect certain items for free. Get some business cards made and place them around your town, they are fairly inexpensive to buy. What about going around the day before garbage pick up and do some street scrapping?
@SethiusAlpha

@@scrapitall200 I'm not on Facebook, but I'm definitely looking into auctions. Are newspapers still a thing? If your scrap yard knows you they’ll just take your word for it if it’s brass. If they don’t know you, they’ll just look through the bucket real quick to make sure it’s brass. So yes, they’ll buy micro brass and copper Thank you for watching.

When you put it in the vise I thought you were going to do it how i do it but then you grabbed a hacksaw and cut it open. I hold them upright and just put the end in the jaw and just squeeze it shut until the end pops off and the copper springs out if you are lucky

@@scrapitall200 Actually the vise i use for this is missing the jaws. They were removed for some reason many years ago and the jaws grew legs apparently. so i set that 1/2 inch or so edge under where the jaws go just above what i think is the edge width of that plastic and just squeeze it shut, most times that end plug pops off. if i get too low it just seems to smoosh together or if i get too high the bottom doesn't pop off. stop as soon as the bottom pops off then you can pull the copper out as a whole. i even do them on the one like you smashed with the hammer. even the ones you put the screwdriver through and just unspin it. I just cut the plastic end off with a side cutter and pull it off as a unit seems faster to me but i do occasionally unstring them like that.

All scrapping to me is therapeutic ❤ it's why I take care to calmly dissassemble everything. Also, there's an element of completeness "using every part of the [find]" to barrow and adapt a phrase from hunters. I recently baught a desoldering tool (let me know if you want the Amazon link) it makes depopulating boards a breeze and way less messy. I'm setting aside the clumps of solder to melt together and perhaps turn in at some point 😁🦝

Well I had a few stators needing stripping so I bought myself a machete. It beat the hell out of my hand that was holding the machete handle and left some serious damage to the blade.
