One video I'd love to see is what's copper and what's brass. You see even though I'm a scrapper myself I'm red green color blind. So if i don't immediately know from experience then it automatically goes into brass. So I've always wondered how much copper I've turned in for brass.

The pink stuff is probably alumina with added CrO2. I have some beryllia tubes that are plain white, and I've seen magnetrons in all different colors. You probably don't want to breathe any powdered ceramic dust, but you're right, beryllia is the bad one. Just breaking it into pieces isn't really hazardous but if you're going to grind on it, try to do it under water or mineral oil to prevent dust.

Micro scrapping is so great!!❤❤ it's a vastly underrated pass time 🥰 And there's an easier way to get that bottom plate off the magnetron. Grip the plate on the edge (just next to the folded tab) with pliers, grips, or even a small Cresent wrench, and pry/bend away from the fold; repeat on the other side if needed. @@scrapitall200 Actually the vise i use for this is missing the jaws. They were removed for some reason many years ago and the jaws grew legs apparently. so i set that 1/2 inch or so edge under where the jaws go just above what i think is the edge width of that plastic and just squeeze it shut, most times that end plug pops off. if i get too low it just seems to smoosh together or if i get too high the bottom doesn't pop off. stop as soon as the bottom pops off then you can pull the copper out as a whole. i even do them on the one like you smashed with the hammer. even the ones you put the screwdriver through and just unspin it. Didn't know those cylenoid things had copper spools in em. 👍 I don't know why I love micro scrapping. Maybe I feel like I'm recycling something that would otherwise get overlooked. Imagine trying to explain internal combustion to the smartest dog on earth. It will never understand it. That's what I Imagine gods plan is like. Even if God himself told me, I'll never comprehend it, cant......no matter how much it gets dumbed down

Heck yeah buddy, micro scrapping isn’t for everyone, but folks like us just love it, even if we can’t fully explain why. Amen to that. And that’s why it’s so important to trust which is also the hardest thing to do. Thank you for watching.

I wish you live close by because I could give old microwave, all cords and old transformers you old Ethernet and catv wire wires I can’t be bothered I scraping I do the bigger stuff I can be bothering with the small stuff. I do hold on to a lot of stuff. I do collect the old liquid mercury thermostat throw in a plastic bottle bubble wrap every tub have probably 6 gallons now and liquid Mercury is worth a lot of money. Will sell it in future. Every raw metal has some form of value.

@@davepetro5676 I would love to take all your small scrap off your hands, but I’m sure there’s someone in your area who would be glad to take it off your hands. Oh interesting, I’ve never heard of anyone collecting mercury. Thats cool. Thank you for watching another video.

All scrapping to me is therapeutic ❤ it's why I take care to calmly dissassemble everything. Also, there's an element of completeness "using every part of the [find]" to barrow and adapt a phrase from hunters. I recently baught a desoldering tool (let me know if you want the Amazon link) it makes depopulating boards a breeze and way less messy. I'm setting aside the clumps of solder to melt together and perhaps turn in at some point 😁🦝

It is so therapeutic to me as well. I just use a chisel and hammer, seems to work quite well, but thank you, I appreciate it.

Well I had a few stators needing stripping so I bought myself a machete. It beat the hell out of my hand that was holding the machete handle and left some serious damage to the blade. The problem was the staters had 4 steel alignment pins to hold the plates together. I cul through the pins and it went easy but you may want to warn your viewere to not use the machete on these pins.
@scrapitall2004 ай бұрын
That’s awful, sorry that was your experience. I actually have a few times mentioned that very thing in some of my videos cause I learned the hard way myself.
@mattyal93474 ай бұрын
@@scrapitall200 well I cleaned up the blade and its ready for action. I have 5 more stators and a crate full of rotors. I am always looking for a better way to drive the shaft from these rotors.
@scrapitall2004 ай бұрын
@@mattyal9347 I’m glad you got it cleaned up. I don’t remember if you saw my video where I show 3 ways to scrap armatures (rotors) I know a hydraulic press is the best to remove the shaft, but idk if you have one.
@mattyal93474 ай бұрын
@@scrapitall200 i did see them! Before that I was throwing the whole rotor in a crucible and melting the copper off. This method is costly and time consuming.
@scrapitall2004 ай бұрын
@@mattyal9347 ok cool. Sorry I forgot. I try to remember as much as I can. I’m really not a big fan of rotors, seems to be a lot of work for their return, but it’s hard to pass up on copper lol.
