I love paper, I love the feel of holding an atlas and imagining what I see. Sidenote (A map is for looking at; a chart is for plotting a course).

I don’t race, but I found this video helpful. Bike packing is all about minimalism. And it’s always good to find ways to go lighter. I currently use a traditional 4 pannier set up because my tours tend to be longer, and thats just what I am use to. But even us traditionalists can always go lighter. Plus I am a big guy(6’4” & 230lbs) so i already tend to bring more stuff. Not to mention being a photographer with a bunch of gear. So i kinda envy bike packers sometimes!

Great to hear people want more ultra endurance bike packing tips! I'll do one of those next...This video was just for the gear I used on a 350 mile ride. I agree...there is a big spectrum of bike packing! I'll do another one for a longer expedition and talk about that gear! Good luck on your adventures.

I've been putting my spare tubes in crew socks. If ziplock baggies offer as much protection in a lighter weight package 📦, I would switch.

Am I unnecessarily adding extra weight to my bike by stuffing my spare tube in a crew sock?
@RebeccaRusch
@RebeccaRusch 2 жыл бұрын
Always good to protect your spare tube from abrasion and getting holes in it. A sock is fine...or a ziploc bag works great too and is a little lighter and smaller.

Hi Rebecca, love it. Really good video, straight and neat, especially with the product notes right in the picture, nothing to scroll down below in the description. Great kit, smart selection of bike and stuff. (Btw, good to know that my own backpacking setup is not that far off at all...) Subscribed right away your channel, looking out for videos to come.

Why the backpack if your saying keep the weight on the bike.... Where you call home? City
@RebeccaRusch
@RebeccaRusch 5 жыл бұрын
I wear a small pack with water because I drink more frequently with a hydration pack than having to reach for water bottles. I also have essentials on the shoulder straps so I can reach and grab them while riding and not have to stop. I keep the weight on my back as light as possible. Basically just water and a few small items like phone.

A map and Leatherman... almost perfect. For “PERFECT” you need a compass too. This was a joke. You are truly an inspiration for all of us youtube bikepackers... thank you. A compass would have made it perfect though... still just kidding...

24 hours to go 350 miles you did some ass-kicking on that ride congratulations. I got a question for you though what was your time and how far in back of the men did you finish in other words the man that won the race how far and back at him did you finish? And I'll tell you I don't think you could have been all that far back 24 hours to go 350 miles that's impressive that is very impressive. And yes I know about the dirty Kanza I just never heard it called what you were calling it that's all very familiar with the dirty Kanza I think I'm going to train and I'm 58 now I going to train for a year-and-a-half or so two years actually and I would like to do it on my 60th birthday and I'm not going to do it just to ride it I'm going to do it to see how well I can finish well. I have another question for you where do you live and the reason I ask that is because dirty Kanza is like doing a race in a 350 degree oven so I'm curious as to where you train for something like this in the heat so anyway again congratulations on that incredible 24-hour win at that just that's fascinating to me I would think that it would take the men longer to finish 350 Mi so congratulations I know I say that a lot I just it's a hell of a ride in such a short amount of time
@RebeccaRusch
@RebeccaRusch 5 жыл бұрын
thanks for the nice words...I was 3rd overall...about 2 hrs behind the winner ....it's a great event to train for...and definitely a cool experience to be out riding all night alone.
