Thats is very perfect charcoal, cooking evenly, my suggest is next time on your trial use thin ceramics or flat iron skillets so the coffee would not get dirrect hit from the flame, whirley is made from thin alloy metal, and alloy absorb heat faster than other metal, either you roast fast it wont roast evenly, or you want evenly roast and it will be like charchoal... try it you will be satisfied....

this is awesome, but i think those beans might be a bit burnt

I like the beans that color. With all the roasting I have done with a heat gun, I can't even get my beans to smoke. If you watch professional roasting machines, when they open the door, plenty of smoke comes with the beans.
@studiosinger8 жыл бұрын
My WP thermometer didn't work at all. My experience with this method is the pan is thin and too close to the flame so I burned some beans very quickly over medium heat. I noted the beans weren't getting stirred when I started, had to continually check. Next time I'm going to place a pan as a shield to make heat more uniform under the WP. The coffee was magnificent in spite of the problems. It was my first roast of organic columbian free trade. Thank you!

To each his own but I don’t recommend roasting indoors. There are affordable portable stoves allowing outside roasting. Also the chaff coming off the beans makes a mess.

It's CHaf...not SHaf, Dad is RIGHT. Unfortunately, dark oily roasts kill my grinder - as I have to grind to near Turkish for Espresso in a La Pavoni Europiccola Millenium Piston Lever machine... but that would be purrfect for French Press. Good job guys!

Primitive home roasting methods require a good documented process to create consistency and repeatability. I started documenting with pen and paper but discovered an App that really helped. Check out the Roast and Bloom option. $2.00 and so helpful. It also has Aeropress recipes with a nifty countdown timer feature. Pretty cool. Happy roasting all!

Chris what would the coffee taste like if you didn't roast it???
@TipsNNTricks10 жыл бұрын
lookitsleonardlove Hey Leonard, I'm not exactly sure myself, I wonder if it has no caffeine power to it, because light roasts have less caffeine and darker, bolder roasts have lots of juice to them, I wonder if it comes out Decaf lolll. I'll have to ask my Dad, I think I'm going to see him tomorrow:)
@bobmclaffah11728 жыл бұрын
Light roasted coffees are actually higher in caffeine surprisingly
@pasta_heals8 жыл бұрын
A little late to the discussion here. But green coffee would taste like it smells. Green, vegetal, grassy, herbal, underdeveloped. Sweet Maria's has a nice video up from when they cupped green coffee. To the OP - Caffeine is a biological compound intrinsic to the plant (evolved as a defense mechanism against herbivores) and thus in the seed that we roast... it doesn't develop as it cooks. So by mass, there should be a little less caffeine in darker roasts than light roasts because the caffeine combusts. But really, it's a negligible difference that you won't notice.
@dreamingrightnow11744 жыл бұрын
@@TipsNNTricks It's actually the opposite: the darker the roast, the less caffeine. The heat kills the caffeine.

@itsnotlevel28 жыл бұрын
you know the electric poppers are aluminum in the inside.....😕
@Nordestada8 жыл бұрын
Yes, most are, but you do not get all the friction from the beans as being stirred, and the metal stirring device itself with the aluminum pan. The problem with aluminum is friction that gets particles of the metal loose and on your food. Now, no smoke and no smell..., well, I doubt that. It is probably best to use a grill with a side burner, and do it outdoors, fellows, or take whatever device you use outside to roast the coffee.

Are you kidding? Why start in the kitchen and walk through the house and use such a flimsy fan. If you are really going to burn coffee at home be better prepared. A blower not a fan. Make a tool. The pocorn b;owers can do as well and separate the chaff as it roasts. Also try chaff tea.

Sorry, I'm giving you a thumbs down for not linking the site to purchase the green coffee beans. You only listed things on Amazon, which give you a bit of a profit (that's ok) but didn't list something that would net no profit. That seemed a little selfish to me, especially when your father stated that you would list it. I guess it's a stupid thing to be annoyed at...

Waaaayyyyy over roasted. That is charcoal, not coffee. And yes, I do roast coffee using a Whirley-Pop on a gas stove. It isn't the same on an electric stove, not as good temperature control.

Penn Kidder Library Center I have seen dark roast coffee beans darker than that and yes some super dark roasts are oily looking.
@danielcohn68845 жыл бұрын
@@jdearing46 not that oily immediately after/during the roast... Usually that's reacquired during the off-gas. Also, I don't care what you say, a French roast traditionally is not that dark. Once the beans acquire a dolly black over even blue/greyish look, they're burnt. Marking a good French roast is about never quite reaching that burnt state. Should be a dark chocolate color.

they also made a statement that you should wait 24 hours before enjoying it that is incorrect after 24 hours you're just drinking Dead Coffee the whole idea behind having fresh coffee and getting all the benefits and antioxidants of it is to drink it within the first 24 hours.

johnny D Are you saying when bought already roasted and shipped, it's dead?
@paul1der6 жыл бұрын
Roasting beans kills antioxidants because heating is accelerated oxidation. You get mostly caffeine and minerals and anything that survives the heat. Therefore light roast will have more antioxidants than dark.
@dreamingrightnow11744 жыл бұрын
Imo, you need to let the beans degas for a few days before using them. That's why coffee beans are sold with the gas valves in the bag. But to each their own. When I was in Turkey I saw little pans with long handles that they used to roast over a fire and drink straightaway, but the Turk's who have a lot of wonderful attributes otherwise, don't have a lot of respect for coffee, lol. .. If you've ever tasted it, you know what I mean.
