Interesting fact, The Dark Presence is "the thing in the lake". The thing in the lake is the king in yellow. Basically the threshold in cauldron lake is a threshold to the world of the king in yellow which is why it's a spiral. The spiral is the sign of the king in yellow. But not just any spiral, a counterclockwise spiral. The king in yellow is the fool, which is why madness is part of the dark place and why the only way to get out of the dark place is through ascention. The other name for the fool is Mat.

i think it's implied that tor and odin were actually fine BEFORE hartman got a hold of them. still wild rockers but not destructive or unstable per the deputy at the station when alan is first there. which means hartman was the one to degrade their mental faculties (and given their state in AW2, possibly degrading their defenses past what they would've been otherwise)

No joke....this was the best Survival horror game to come out at that time since Silent Hill 3 and 4. By this point Resident Evil was an action game franchise (though, I do enjoy the stupid fun of Resident Evil 6 because they go ALL-IN on the Action Hero aspect), Silent Hill was just....bad. Dead Space was good, but didn't scratch that same itch. As a MASSIVE Stephen King fan, "Alan Wake" grabbed me fresh off the heels of my Dragon Age: Origins (one you should SO do a video on), and never really let go.

@TiptoeTheTank Жыл бұрын
She was under the control of the Dark Presence. She wasn't herself. I think in what Alan Wake wrote during that week in the cabin, it was a way for a day to pass into night time. So danger could emerge within the darkness of night. AND it was a way to get a really angry Agent Nightingale out to her trailer after the park manager called the cops on them. Now WHAT she drugged them with is a whole other issue. Like, Rose where did you get those kinds of drugs? Plz explain, Rose.

The writer of Alan Wake and Control (Sam Lake) did a WONDERFUL job connecting the two games together without ret-conning ANYTHING out of Alan Wake. It was so well done, that it's almost like he PLANNED for Alan Wake and Control to be linked!
@liamvt2 Жыл бұрын
I love your video's. I had a blast watching the one on control. I wonder how the story could be explained properly in this manner after the base game though. Honestly.. I have no idea how you could properly explain alan wake. But going through the events from the story in chronological order will cause issues going any deeper into the story than this 2 part story you put out i think. There are lore implications in the dlc as well as alan wake 2 that just change the story up so much that some fairly straightforward parts of your two video's become completely wrong. I'm eager to see how you will cover the rest in the future. I do think it's a great audience primer. So. What do i mean? Well, from the events of writer, signal, american nightmare and now Alan wake 2 we learn a lot of what governs the dark place and wake's writers powers. We learn that the wake we play is never truly alan the writer, but a projection of him living out in real world "overlaps" or the dark place while alan is stuck inside the writers room. Things that alan write according to certain rules of drama and horror become reality, and the projection of alan then faces this reality, which in turn allows alan the writer to make notes and print out new pages. Sometimes alan the projection runs into a dead end, and the story starts from the beginning with adjustments to the draft. This is important because it has several implications: 1. The story of "departure" as we see in alan wake 1, doesn't get written in that cabin in the missing week most likely. Everything from the moment we boot up the game in alan's nightmare is already part of it. It's so convoluted that alan even writes about writing the manuscript inside the manuscript. Alan wrote zane into existence. Zane might have been a real person before, but he wrote himself out of existence except for his works inside a shoebox. Alan finds these works and creates zane anew. "departure" is part of a three act system from a real world narrative structure called "the hero's journey". The other two acts being called "initiation" and "return". Everything alan writes will have to follow this structure. Maybe not by law of the dark place, but its a ritual he adheres to to give his works more power. In "departure" Tom the diver actually takes the role of mentor figure or guide. As soon as alan accepts the "call to adventure" said guide gives him "supernatural aid" in form of the clicker. after which Alan dives into the dark place and saves alice. Thats the story of "departure". 2 things here: 1. the story was written before the game starts. So we don't know Alan's true origin story. This story was all written to match the hero's journey exactly. It doesn't have to be fully real, it just needs to have a basis in reality. 2. the game itself during "departure" follows the narrative of a tv show. it's divided into episodes and has alan saying "previously on" each episode. Its clearly from start to finish, a work of art and fiction based on alan's "departure". There's a million questions to be answered now. Who is the original writer? Did zane write the clicker or was that by alans design? Most questions can be answered by: "it's alan" because he's the one writing the story and it would be the most obvious answers 99% of the time considering the amount of stories he has written in the dark place in the 13 years trapped here. Or is it even longer? There's a million details i could go on about concerning the next games. Things that were said and done that give hints. Things outside brightfalls. The reality changing SOS signals basically sent out by alan over the years. The conceptual nature of things like "Mr. Scratch", "scratch" and "the scratching hag". The fact that at the moment zane the poet as written during alans manuscript of departure has been written to never have existed either. Same with jagger not having the same past anymore. There is just sooooo much. And the nature of alan wake is so convoluted, that you really can't just cover the story linearly to give a good picture of it. My summary of alan wake would be that it's a story of a man trapped inside a dark place, constantly plagued by all the dark parts of his psyche. Constantly needing to face himself and put himself back together. A mental health basketcase of a man (due to an alien influence), that has to write the perfect horror book trilogy in order to escape and not destroy reality completely. All the while constantly losing his memory and faculties and needing to rely on the snippets he gets from his deep dives into the dark place, his own notes (that seem to disappear from the writers room every time a manuscript is completed), and snippets from the reality and friends he left behind that he sees through "overlaps". its truly a maddening experience filled with unreliable narrators.

Shouldn't be. There are a few midrolls sprinkled in but KZbin decides how many to show based on user analytics. They should all at least be skippable, at least for now until KZbin removes that ability from us in November. Then we'll have no control over ads. If you're a big consumer of KZbin content, I'd suggest looking into KZbin Premium. In my opinion it's worth it for not only ad free viewing, but the creators you watch still get a small cut of the Premium revenue so they can keep creating that sweet, sweet content. 👌
