I know I’m a year too late😂. I have a 1991 Schwinn Crisscross hybrid bike with original? Japanese rims and tires. I’ve purchased replacement tires and tubes last year, but still haven’t had time to replace them yet. This video has encouraged me to do so soon. Thank you!

I know you have enough tools to get the job done.

I just purchased the continental 27.5x3

That's a wide tire

Did you use the same size in the front and the back and what’s the tube size
@DIYNorth3 ай бұрын
Yes they are the same size front and back. You can run different sizes though, I just don't. The tubes are based on tire width. Obviously they are 27.5 but there should be a second number to indicate what width of tire they can be used with.

haha, literally just ordered some maxxis ardent tires with the tan sidewall right before watching this video. Crossing my fingers that they fit. I know the front will fit but the rear is kind of iffy, I currently have 2.35 Schwalbe Smart Sam's and the rear is pretty close to rubbing the frame, wish me luck considering the new tires are 2.40

they should fit. these are 2.3 and they have a bit of room still. 2.4 might be as big as you can go though.

@@DIYNorth yeah that's what I was thinking too, although I watched a wolftick video last night to be sure and they installed 2.9 inch tires with no problem. I have no idea how they got them to fit, but it does look like they didn't have the stock rims on it.

I have been running 2.5 maxxis minion dhf on the stock aggressor pro front wheel and a 2.4 maxxis high roller 2 on the rear (dt swiss 533d) for a few years now. They fit well on the stock sr suntour fork and they definitely fit on my rockshox recon RL

How do you find the Recon RL. I am looking at a few fork options with the straight steerer. I'm also looking at the Manitou Markhor which is about the same price.

It's a definitive upgrade over the stock suntour fork. It's a bit lighter and handles smaller bumps a bit better. The thing that stands out to me tho is the ability to dampen bigger bumps and dirt jumps. It's a good fork. I don't have any experience with Manitou so I can't really say how that performs. Amazon has a decent sale on them too. I am running the 120mm travel version too.

Why would you not throw some rim tape on while you had the tires off and ditch the tubes? I haven’t ran a tube for more than a decade.

I also havent run tubes on my own bike in the last 10 years, but I dont plan on keeping this wheel set on the bike and I'm not really sure if these rims will work in as a tubeless system. The bike will be tubeless, just not today.

I might not get to that level with this one, but its a good idea.
