Tired Baby Bison Calf Stops Traffic in Yellowstone || ViralHog

On May 13th a lone exhausted baby bison just laid down on the Grand Loop Road in the northern tier of Yellowstone National Park. The little guy was quickly surrounded by protective cows. No one was going anywhere. Of course, one gentleman had to get out of his truck and walk towards the Bison and front to see what was going on. He risked his own safety to do it by doing what the park tells you not to do, approach a bison. Let alone a cow and newborn calf.

Yellowstone is a wonderful place to see these majestic creatures. It's easy to become complacent by their seemingly timid nature, but make no mistake, they can bring the pain when they want to, and cover ground fast. Considering they were obviously trying to protect their young, i definitely recommend staying in the car.

It sounds like a good idea, but just about every time there is interaction between a wild animal and a human, the animal pays the price by being euthanized, even though it is not the animal's fault that human beings continue to encroach on the habitat of wildlife. I would love to see that fool get his comeuppance for his selfish behavior. They are not in our way; on the contrary, we are in theirs.

Had something similar happen to me when leaving Yellowstone on the eastern side on Rt 14 towards Cody. There was a single (one) buffalo on the road but road was going through the mountain pass so it was shear rock on one side and a steep drop off on the other side so the buffalo was just slowly walking up the middle of the road holding up traffic......LOL. I have a video of up (but is on FB) as the buffalo slowly walks up and past my car. I had my dog in the car and I can be heard saying, "No bark, No bark" We all need to remember that this is their land and we are just the visitors

Quick math lesson for those saying he was far enough away. 25 yards is 75 feet. The average "short bus" that some people ride is a little more than 20 FEET. So, to be far enough away, he would have to be at least 4 short buses away from them.

Were they though? There's paleontological evidence suggesting that the North American bison may have contributed to the extinction of mastodons (and other megafauna, with dependent predators), along with climate change beginning prior to the Last Glacial Maximum. Go back far enough, and whomever was there first, resembles nothing alive today. Go back even further, and nobody was there. Ten million years from now? We will have long been replaced by new life. The land is no one's. Certainly not a species that doesn't even understand the concept of ownership. Nor, is it ours, per se. It is just land. And in five billion years, it very may well be gone, swallowed by our expanding and dying sun...
