My favorite thing to film is Parkour and a lot of times I don't have anyone to film me so I really like getting those POV shots with my GoPro. I use the hat clip as a mouth mount since I've learned that the mouth is the most stable part of your body while moving :D

I think the variety of shots is a really important point. Sometimes too many close ups can feel a bit claustrophobic and adding a nice wide can help the piece breathe. When I'm making videos for clients I'm quite good at it, but I think I could do with focusing on it more on KZbin. I also think shooting b-roll with an idea of where you might put graphics in the future can be really useful. It often helps to be aware of how busy, bright and contrasted a shot is so any text you might put over it isn't going to clash. Great video, thanks for making it.

anyone can tell which drone this was recorded on actually? i know, gear is not important, but i'm just curious since it looks more dense than the usual 20-24mm you find on those mavics and phantoms. I assume it's an inspire with a 50mm or something? anyway, looks really dope.

Hey Chris! Almost 100k congrats man!! Loved the video. My Broll suggestion is also drop your camera on the ground. We get lazy to shoot anything below waist height but changing the angle and getting on the floor . gives that interesting feeling for the viewer of being part of the scene in an omniscient way. Peace ✌️

Chris! I'm so stoked you touched base on this. Honestly, I'm kind of tired of seeing slow-mo on 120fps on almost every video. There are so many more creative ways to tell a story rather than slowing things down although there's a time and place for that as well.

This is more a transition rather than just b-roll but if your have a go pro and a camera. Set the go pro up on your head/chest/face and set them both to record so whoever is watching can see you filming through your POV. Then you can lift the camera so it's at the centre of the gopro frame and use a zoom transition to switch to the camera's view. I used it in my latest video and I thought it was pretty cool! Still perfecting it though 👊

An easy way to spice up your b-roll if you don't have a stabilizer is to use a tripod. You can tilt the tripod up to get a cool panning up shot. You can also get a pan tilt if you place the tripod on two legs and push the tripod to/from you.
@JonathanThompsonStoryteller6 жыл бұрын
It’s really refreshing to hear someone talking about none 120p b-roll. It is epic and makes for cool cinematic footage, I like your idea of staying away from 120p to make you think and a better film maker as you practice different skills. Great tips Chris, thanks for sharing, I’ll be keeping them in mind as I begin my video creating adventure. Cheers and have a delicious weekend JT

I couldn't agree more! I'm so sick of 120fps, so overused. There's a reason you don't see endless slo-mo shots in TV and Films. It should be used when it fits the story.

I believe the first shot was created with a drone. Two reasons why I think this. 1.) End of the shot the is a bunch of dust and dirt that is thrown up into the air (yes, this could have been done with a car too; however, the way the dust is moving it looks like a drone.) 2.) Look at the city scape in the top right corner. See the distortion? The original video was probably filmed in 4K or whatever, and then applied optical compensation in post, then cropped to give the tighter focal length effect.
@steveleeart5 жыл бұрын
Shooting and working a subject is smart for not just shooting video but shooting photos. I’m looking at getting a drone but in some places they are getting strict about how and where they can be used. But many places have workshops from weekend long to stuff over 8-12 weeks, where you can learn a lot from experts.

A cool idea for b-roll that I dig goes something like this; say you're traveling a lot and you're not exactly sure how to tie all of the different locations into one, well if you get nearly the exact same shots in a sequence, whether that be landing/taking off in a plane or you just looking around in the airport, smack some sexy text depicting your current location and it can make for a more flowing travel vlog...at least in theory...I actually haven't tried it out yet lol.

You may also try 30fps - for instance the slider shot getting into the car - shoot that at 30fps and then slow down to 24 in your sequence - it will give it just a hint of drama but still look normal.
@floatingrabbit35566 жыл бұрын
I usually shoot 60 and even 30fps sometimes, and the b-roll is actually pretty good. I think generally if you have planned your shots properly and executed them well enough, the 120fps can bite the dust.
