Kayaked it a few years ago, camped near the bothy and had strangest experience. During the night I kept hearing as if someone was walking around my tent, but no one there. Suddenly a massive mans head, wearing what looked like a grey wig, obviously not of this century, seemed to come through my tent and just peer down at me, no malice, no surprise just watched me for a second or two, then disappeared. It left me pretty shaken, as I don't really believe in ghosts. My friend, who was sleeping close by, in his tent, hadn't heard or seen anything. He did mention though, that when we'd been in the bothy, the day before, that he'd said " don't be lonely ghostie, come and visit tonight!" My reply was.....next time mention which tent you're in, you arsehole!!" I can still see that head, very strange.

i had lived in a haunted house for 3 year and for 6 months of it, i had no idea it was haunted. lying in bed watching TV one night i noticed movement in the corner of my eye, i look over to see the lid to my fishtank opening up by itself. that was my 1st experience with the paranormal. the whole time living there i never actually saw a ghost, only saw random objects get moved by an unseen force. consider yourself lucky, its super rare to see something like that.

Most of the haunted stories were made up by the keeper as the estate didn't want people to stay / walk in tha area. Though I spent a couple of nights at the bothy about 30 years ago, on a canoe / fishing trip with my father. He had the hydro keys for the private road to the dam, so it was an easy paddle in to the bothy. On the first night about 3 in the morning he woke me up very freaked out asking me if I had seen her. He said there hadbeen an old woman standing over him as he half-slept. I didn't see or hear anything, but he was convinced it wasn't a dream. Who knows. The next day we walked over to Loch a' Bhealaich Beithe, (Loch of the Pass of the Birch) which to my father's delight was teeming with wee trout, and I went up Alder direct from the loch, which was fine until near the top of the gully which was very shitty with deep moss. I found some rocks to the right and made it to the safety and sanity of the plateau before heading back down the east ridge. Final day was very windy so we ripped down the loch to Dalwhinnie using a big golf umbrella as a spinnaker. Fine days.

@@TisoOnline In October 2022 my journey to the bothy from the Rannoch side was fraught with problems and I ended up walking the last few miles in the pitch dark with no moonlight. My torch beam barely covered ten metres and everything from vegetation to fallen and standing trees took on the appearance of a track. I tried to keep Loch Ericht in sight making matters worse, scrambling over rock, pools of water and fallen trees. My backpack was heavier as I was carrying coal and logs. Things were getting desperate in the cold, wind and rain. At one point I was desperate for my wellbeing as I knew the Loch had to diverge at Alder Bay. This is a true story. At a high point I saw a light appear in what I knew was the bothy. It was a light that illuminated for less than ten seconds - like a candlelight and then darkness again. I thought, there are people in the bothy and maybe they have seen my faint torchlight across the bay. This gave me hope and direction. I soon found the bridge, though that was a miracle itself, as I just turned at the right moment. Remember it is black as black on the moor. When I eventually found the safety of the bothy, to my surprise noone was there, but on the window ledge facing the glass was a candle in a candle holder. I saw what I saw that night. Someone had lit that candle long enough for me to see it in the gloom and dark.

Stayed in this bothy many times in the 80s, and early 90s, long before the extension on the left side. Only once did we here something weird, about 3am someone came into the bothy with loud tackity boots, wandered through the 3 rooms and left, no head torches in the pitch black, and wandered about like it was broad daylight. Interesting conservation in the morning, as it was definitely not one of the 3 people staying in the bothy that got out of our sleeping bags, at that particular time, but all heard the noise.

My sister like's walking and she visited a house or possibly a bothy in Sky i think but may have been Bute or another island? Anyway the building had furniture in it and it was arranged like in a house with painted pictures on the wall. The pictures were immaculate she said as she showed me a picture. She was correct as one viewed the pictures. But the strange thing was the house sat on a slight cliff next to the sea, it had no roof. It was open to the harsh Scottish elements. But everything in the room was arranged perfectly with painting still attached to the walls. Very eerie and spooky. next time I see my sister I will tell you where she was. Then again you may have already visited it.

Funnily enough when I saw the title, I did wonder if it was this place. In the Eighties and Nineties I slept in about 40 bothies in total, but this was the scariest night. However the wind howled the whole night, and that may have been the cause of my sense of intimidation. I didn`t know beforehand of any so-called haunting. I`m not sure what to make of ghost stories, though do believe that demonic entities exist. Being alone in this sort of place, fore-knowledge of stories or not, adds another dimension to be fair.

Been going to them since I was a wee boy . I think every single one of them is creepy when you're by yourself. Lets face it- theyre old remote buldings. With the sound of unseen mice and other beasties and the wind howling- it's no wonder they can be a bit scary.I dont belive in the supernatural but I still find them creepy places at night when you're on your tod. If I'm on my own I prefer to sleep outdoors but Im a scaredy cat I suppose. Glenbuck bothy above the Great Glen had a big photo and details of an old woman who had lived and died in there in the 19th Century. Much of what you hear of haunting is from those who have taken a wee tale and added to it until it hardly resembles what it once was..
