বিগত ফ্যাসিবাদী সরকারের নতজানু পররাষ্ট্র নীতির কারণে তিস্তাচুক্তি আলোর মুখ দেখেনি। শক্ত কুটনৈতিক তৎপরতার মাধ্যমে ভারতের সঙ্গে তিস্তা চুক্তি বাস্তবায়ন করা হবে বলে জানিয়েছেন অন্তর্বর্তী সরকারের উপদেষ্টা আসিফ মাহমুদ। আপাতত ক্ষয়ক্ষতি রোধে তিস্তার ৪৫ কিলোমিটার বাঁধ নির্মাণ করার কথা জানান আরেক উপদেষ্টা সৈয়দা রিজওয়ানা হাসান। তিস্তা নিয়ে করণীয় শীর্ষক গণশুনানীতে এসব কথা বলেন দুই উপদেষ্টা। তবে নদী পাড়ের বাসিন্দাদের দাবি তিস্তার স্থায়ী সমাধান৷
The Teesta Agreement has not seen the light of day due to the knee-jerk foreign policy of the previous fascist government. Advisor to the interim government Asif Mahmud said that the Teesta Agreement with India will be implemented through strong diplomatic efforts. Another advisor, Syeda Rizwana Hasan, said that a 45-kilometer dam will be built on the Teesta to prevent damage for the time being. The two advisors made these remarks at a public hearing titled "What to do about Teesta." However, the residents of the riverbanks demand a permanent solution to the Teesta.
