Titanic as a film was so far ahead of its time. That’s why it still holds up and looks gorgeously new in 2024. I’ve seen cgi from movies made in the early-mid 2000s where it’s so much more obvious then titanic, which was really seamlessly done. Love or hate him, James Cameron is an outstanding filmmaker and his obsessive attention to detail and hyperfocus may make him tough to work for, but those qualities are what set his films apart. I feel Titanic was really a passion project for him in a way that Avatar hasn’t been, hence his becoming an oceanographer basically to make the film! He went ALL OUT. Much respect ✊

It’s crazy how old this film really is and how well they made it.

Possibly the best era of filmmaking tbh, for longevity and authenticity of visuals. There was a nice even blend of practical and virtual effects that worked in tandem to create a visually realistic look and setting. Still to this day, Titanic looks fantastic. Most movies today are awash with virtual effects, which imho don't age anywhere near as well. Look at Starship Troopers for example, another movie of this era, the blend of practical and visual effects still hold up very well today. Where as many modern CGI heavy based movies already start to look dated and out of place only years later.

It shows you how much ahead of its time that Titanic was, and by extension James Cameron too for his filmmaking. Ranging from the casting, costumes, music, sets and special effects of course. You know, the lengths that Cameron was willing to go to. Not just recreating an 11/12th size replica of the real ship as a set piece, but also adding a large number of other smaller set pieces that made the movie look much more authentic, organic and orginal than using CGI for everything etc. Nonetheless, it is crazy to think how Cameron spent around $1 Million (his words) on that deleted fight scene of Lovejoy and Jack. Doing it just because he wanted to add a bit more action sequence in the movie. Fortunately, the scene got to be edited out in the final cut. After Cameron had a legit discussion with the testing audience who gave the movie their honest review. Saying they found the fight scene a bit too distracting and not adding much to the storytelling. I'm very glad too that Cameron listened to them.

@@LookHereMars I agree. Hence, I think Titanic and not Avatar remains Cameron's masterpiece. Simply, because he used more practical and physical effects for the many different scenes. You know, like instead of using a large green screen and CGI for the scenes on deck, he basically recreated an 11/12th sized replica of the ship. It made the movie appear much more realistic and give this authentic feeling and experience.

Yep. No joke. Kate Winslet even mentioned once her own experience of encountering a Titanic viewer somewhere high up in the mountains of the Himalaya's where she was hiking on a holiday. When an elderly men at a local village suddenly approached her and said something along the lines of: 'you're the lady from Titanic aren't you?' No wonder this moment made Winslet cry, because it showed how much her work had paid off in terms of reaching people with art.

It's disappointing, though, that it isn't 100 percent accurate to the real Titanic's saloon. There was no carpeting (just linoleum floor) or table lamps. Missing details are fans used for ventilation and glass in the double set of entrance doors with grillwork. These are things that would definitely have been known at the time of the film's making.

@makalism
@makalism 5 ай бұрын
Considering the amount of accuracy that went into designing the sets, I imagine that the B footage of the dining room flooding is exactly what it would’ve looked like the night the ship went down. All the noise and bustle of first class passengers replaced with eerie silence and the groans of the steel hull

2:04 Amazing to see that whole gun chase of Rose & Jack by an enraged and envious Cal from behind-the-scenes. I had never seen it that way before. And cool to see the sight being switched from a simple cam recorder to an HD-camera man crewmember following the footsteps of DiCaprio and Winslet as they're running down the Grand Staircase and into the 1st class diner.

Just minor nitpicks: Firstly, the little table lamps on the tables weren't actually present in the original design. I think they were added, perhaps for cinematic effect or to enhance lighting for actors. (which While they do add an elegant touch, they're not historically accurate. Additionally, the dining saloon didn't feature carpeting; instead, it had decorative linoleum tiles. ( Imagine how much easier the film crew's lives would have been if they didn't have to constantly dry the water from the carpet after every take during filming! ) Despite these discrepancies, Titanic remains one of my all-time favorite films.

I LOVE THIS KIND OF THING. I mean the behind the scenes peak is always cool. But on a big movie like this is, and I’m going to use a word I just scanned someone else’s comment…epic. Because that is exactly what it is. And another thing, yes of course this is their job and they’re getting paid for it, but the fact that when WE SEE THE MOVIE, it’s all moving in real time with music playing and as it crescendos in and out of each scene. But in fact the actors don’t have that to play off of, they had to ….Well…Duhhhh….”Act” like the water was freezing cold water from the North Atlantic, and the Unsinkable ship they were on was sinking fast. I do wish James Cameron would allow much more to be released.
