The very first photo shown is my great uncle, Thomas Andrews jr. I am very proud of the history he left behind his skill in designing ships. When at the age of 14yrs he began his apprenticeship, his family gave him a briefcase to carry pencils, rulers and paper, unlike our leather ones his was wooden. I have the honour to own it. It will be passed down through generations, just as I inherited it...In the movie he was the man who stood by the clock in the lounge...his family lived in a small village outside Belfast called Comber. A lot of his descendants still live there today...it was only a few miles to get the the small seaside town. He would ride his bicycle there and watch the ships go by..this is thought to be were he decided to be a ship builder/ designer....

Wow!!! Thank you Evelyn for this bit of family history! I always find it interesting to find out the personal history of the individual lives. It sounds like you are well versed in your family history! I spent my youth and early adulthood re-enacting the American Civil War. Much more of interest to me was the living history aspect of it, than the battle re-enactments. I spent much time researching a specific Soldier in the unit I was attached to. I knew his family history, his personal struggles, and his friendships with others in the unit. I spent my time at re-enactments in the first person. We were very disciplined in maintaining a representation of our Soldier in their time period. Spectators were often directed to our unit (31st Indiana, Volunteer Infantry Regiment, Company G) because it was like observing a piece of history come to life when they observed our interactions with each other and the crowd. It is this type of research into the lives of those who played key roles in our history, that keeps history alive and interesting! Thank you dearly for sharing this bit of history with us here.

I have been obsessed with Titanic ever since I was a child. One day, my dad took me to central London (the Titanic exhibition) without telling me why. I was angry the whole journey because I was a naughty, stubborn child. The moment he told me where we were going, everything changed. Love you dad.

I have always been fascinated with the Titanic ever since I was about 9 years old and back in the late 50's , early 60's, there was a TV show called, "One Step Beyond ", and they showed how some people were somehow knowing something catastrophic was going to happen to the Titanic. In my child's mind, I couldn't understand how that beautiful ship could hit an iceberg on the vast Atlantic Ocean. I am now in my 70's and have been to the exhibit on Orlando, years ago. I have a model of the Titanic in my dining room and books about the Titanic, so even after all these years, the story about the Titanic continues to not only fascinate me, but a whole new generation of people. The ship may have died but it looks like it's story will never end.

This reminds me a bit of the Titanic museum we went to in Branson, MO, a year or two after it opened. It included water to put your hand in to feel how cold the water was that night and even bits from filming the movie as well as actual artifacts from the wreckage. It was fascinating, and I’m sure if I went a dozen more times, I’d still manage to learn something more each time. Such a tragedy, and I wish we had more artifacts from which we could learn more about the people, times and of course the Titanic experience.

Several months ago, I went to the Titanic Museum in Pigeon Forge TN. I love how each museum has different items. I enjoyed watching this video of things I didn't get to see at mine. The gift shop was amazing. I ended up buying a t-shirt and a book about the stewardess Violet Jessop and how she survived the Titanic and Britannic disasters. I recommend that book. My passenger was Maria Backström from Finland. She was 33 years old and 6 months pregnant and held a third class ticket. She traveled with her husband and her two brothers which all three perished. Maria survived because her husband begged her to get into one of the last lifeboats. After the tragedy, she went back to Finland. May all those that perished that night rest in peace.

Indeed...I too have touched the Titanic. I took my daughter, who was then at university, when it visited Manchester, England, in the early 2000s. i went there once a long time ago. it was an amazing experience. CQD means "Come Quick Distress" actually. Also Titanic was the first ship to use SOS.
@Dizzy19.
@Dizzy19. 3 жыл бұрын
CQD does not actually stand for come quick distress, although most people think it does. I found this on line, which explains it simply .......... What does distress call CQD mean? In 1904, the Marconi company suggested the use of “CQD” for a distress signal. Although generally accepted to mean, “Come Quick Danger,” that is not the case. It is a general call, “CQ,” followed by “D,” meaning distress. A strict interpretation would be “All stations, Distress.”

I had the luck of visiting one of the many touring Titanic exibitions of artifacts ect a few yrs a go as i had missed the one in the uk that only came to London origialy ...And was only by chance as we were on a short weekend break to Prague when we stumbled upon it as wasn't advertised anywhere! ....iv been intersted in titanic from being a kid in the early 70s when i found out my neighbours mother was a survivor as a child/ teenager but NEVER spoke about it as she lost her parents in the sinking ect ....that ignited my interest at prob 5 yrs old at the time ....each touring exhibit is obv different and the one i attended in Prague had a LOT of the personal efects from passengers including jewelry, clothes, ect ect and like your visit to the florida one we were each given a boarding pass with a passengers name on it and then had to look them up at the end to see if they survived or perished! ...i now have a larg collection of books on Titanic be they books on the building and different areas of the ship to more personal accounts of survivors or stories of the souls that perished! ...a great vid by the way and very well done!

Thank you for doing such a great narration throughout .It was very interesting and full of information.It is a very sad story .All the hopes and excitement of all those people going to a new beginning in a lot of cases.And they had so many dreams too.There are a lot of stories to of bravery and wrong doings too.But sadly it happened.I am pleased they left her down there and she’s now a resting place for those down there.I think it’s fitting..Thank you again.Love n Light 🥰

I’ve been fascinated by Titanic since I was a child. In 2010 I was in NYC and it just happened the huge Titanic exhibit was there. It was incredible. The week before I had been to Halifax and also seen the Titanic related museums and such there also. I’ll never forget any of it.

Sounds like you had some great history lessons very early on! I remember when Titanic was finally discovered at the bottom of the Atlantic. I was in grade school, and we spent quite a bit of time learning about this exciting discovery. I was enamored at the mere size and elegance of the ship. It wasn’t until many years later that I actually discovered we had many ships larger than Titanic. 😂 I had thought Titanic was the largest ever made! I guess in a child’s eyes, they don’t get much bigger than Titanic, at least in legend.

I thought the whole experience was both fun and sad; movie reminiscent but also real life. And yes I did buy a heart of the ocean necklace at the gift shop!

The touch piece has been sealed off? I was there in 2020 Valentines Day weekend and I got to touch it. Thank you for sharing the exhibit. This was where I learned what ship my ancestor came from Sweden. I had known he sailed in April of 1912, but online I couldn’t find what ship he had been on. He was one of the too few steerage passengers to survive. Touching that tiny piece of the ship was so emotional for me.

No, I think I misspoke in the video. I am pretty certain now that I had misread the sign. I also seen the plexiglass case it was sitting in, but never noticed the little hole in top to reach through. I need to put a correction in my video description… I don’t want to be reporting falsely. I am now pretty certain the sign actually said “Please Touch”. I have became so accustomed to seeing “Please do not Touch” signs, that my brain didn’t register. Thank you for sharing this story of your ancestor! What an amazing thing to know he was in steerage and survived!! I am certain he could have recounted such an amazing tale, but was probably scarred enough that he didn’t dare talk about it.

@@OlPaths I bet. He died before I was born but I would have loved to talk to him. They changed the spelling of his name when he got to the US. They did that a lot with Swedish names. Lindqvist became Lind. He was technically born in Finland but he spent a lot of time in Sweden. His sister survived too but I don’t know as much about her. They went to Pennsylvania a while but the family wound up eventually in Massachusetts. It was just so shocking to find out at the museum that this was the ship we had been searching for! His name was right there. It made touching the small part of the ship so emotional for me. Like, if he hadn’t made it I might not be here. That was so surreal.

well made video no annoying background sound from other people nicely spoken along with the music. I was interested to see what artifacts were on display tho not all genuine from Titanic it seems BUT when they state they are similar or from Olympic or such thats fine I recently visited Belfast and whilst very few actual artifacts it was excellent, they even state that it is NOT about artifacts but about the people its construction etc to stand outside or on the upper floor and look out down the slip ways where the Olympic class ships were actually built is amazing and to think that the lamposts that stand there tall they may be but only a third the height of the huge Gantry which was only pulled down in the 60's to make room for a car park! thank goodness its been restored to a point Thye memorial wall similar to the one shown here was quite an emotional site, the main difference in Belfast it is split into lost and saved as well as the different classes

Well this is an honest reply from this 63-year old woman. I live in Lake Havasu City Arizona and I am only 5-miles away from the Famous London Bridge that they had spoken about in this documentary. Here in Lake Havasu City they have A very quaint little shops and A few Restaruants and you can walk underneath the London Bridge and actually see the bullet holes or take a ferry ride too or drive across it off of McCullough Blvd and see the beautiful homes on the other side of the Colorado River which is the State of California Well I hope that you can come here and enjoy yourself and have A fantastic time

I had the privilege of seeing the exhibit. At the start of the tour, we were given exact replicated tickets that aligned with the ticket an actual passenger had. I had a 2nd class passenger, my daughter’s ticket was of the lowest man who worked as a coal shoveler at the bottom of the ship. My son in law had 1st class. At the end, there was a large wall with the names of the passengers and if they survived. My passenger along with my son in law’s passenger survived. My daughter’s passenger did not, unsurprisingly. In the tour, we saw the huge difference between the classes’ cutlery and menu. We could see what our passenger ate. What their accommodations were like. We felt how cold the ice was by touching ice in water…it was a small tank with dry ice in it. We placed our hands on the ice. It was so incredibly cold. They had the atmosphere so that you could easily relate to how very cold it would have been in that water. We saw actual clothing and jewelry. It was incredible and if you get a chance, you should go. It’s an entire experience.

Took this tour in Orlando several years ago, well worth it ! The large ice wall is kept at the same temper as the freezing water was that night. How those who didn’t get into the life boats must have suffered when they first entered the water.
