I’ve explained it so many times in this comment section so I’ll pin this here, There is plenty of evidence to support it being Wilde. Wilde was going through a lot of traumatic experiences before Titanic, family deaths and what not, on the night of the sinking he pulled out his revolver to keep the crowd back from boarding Collapsible “A” before it was prepared. An Italian man tried to rush the boat and was shot, then a second man was accidentally pushed forward and Wilde, thinking he was attempting to board the boat, shot him. He fell back on the deck and was still conscious and was holding onto Lifeboat 1 and 3s davit and then died. Wilde seeing that he had shot an innocent man had recollection of his last trauma and then put his revolver to his head and pulled through the trigger. So many people have commented this on this video and it’s just down to people either stuck with the idea it was Murdoch as shown in the 1997 film or they either don’t think the shooting took place.

Personally I don't think there was any suicide simply because there wasn't enough time to consider such things. Very few on board were aware the ship was mortally damaged. Boxhall only learned of the danger when he asked Smith point blank. Lightoller said he didn't think the ship would sink until he saw water coming up onto the boat deck. I think everyone was too busy trying to get boats A and B cleared, and it seemed like there was still time until the ship took that sudden plunge and sent everyone into the water, or fleeing aft.
@DannyDraws19129 күн бұрын
@@brianrose1472 Henry Wilde we know was armed that night, along with Smith, Lightoller and Murdoch. He was holding back a mob of passengers from rushing Collapsible A with his revolver. We have detailed accounts about how the event played out. People said a man tried to rush the boat and Wilde shot him, then another man was pushed forward on accident and in a sudden panic Wilde shot the man in the leg thinking he was rushing the Boat. Wilde then realized that he had shot an innocent man and had recollections about his past before putting his revolver to his head and pulling the trigger. We know this Officer wasn't Murdoch as he was seen after this event in the water and attempting to get the final 2 boats away.

@@DannyDraws1912 You're conflating witness accounts with a scene from the film, which was at times highly fictionalized. The primary account for this is attributed to Eugene Daly, but that account did not come directly from him, but was given to another person who took it down (and said he did so after administering stimulants to Daly to revive him). It's not an ideal source upon which to draw conclusions. It's doubtful anyone could have seen much of anything. The boat deck was lit by lights that were low wattage by today's standards. It was dimly lit even before the power began to fail, and after, very nearly pitch black. You have a cacophony of noises as the ship was going down. I've studied this disaster for three decades, and have made contributions to the scholarship of the sinking. I wrote a paper that identified an unidentified Titanic body. And I've not found anything close to reliable in terms of testimony that would go toward an officer committing suicide.

HaG had the consistency of the animation, Titanic Animations showed how dark it was the last few moments, this had the best aftermath. The stern plunging straight down, then imploding into a spiral, and a gull's eye view of the hundreds of people dead in the water (some were trapped inside the ship while everything went down). Gave off some Cameron vibes, as that film was the only one showing at least a bit of what happened once 2:20 came around, if only a shot of it disappearing into the depths. I still think that the 4th funnel collapsed, the probable explanation of there being a lack of accounts was the fact that it was pitch black so when the breakup happens, nothing could be seen aside from some sparks, not to mention the breakup itself was ingrained into the survivors' brains, as it was that big of an event that the 4th funnel collapsing can be easily missed. One of the better simulations that wasn't done by the crew behind Honor and Glory, superbly done
@IloveCruiseShips19123 ай бұрын
I disagree about the 4th funnel, numerous witnesses state the fourth funnel still standing post break, for example, Percy Keen, George Crowe, Jack Thayer and Edward Buley, their wouldn’t be enough force to topple the funnel either as the stern is settling back and not falling which isn’t enough to break the base off the funnel. The 4th funnel was built very differently from the 3rd funnel. It was built much stronger and the guy wires were only their to help with Stability. None of the Titanic's funnels fell because of the guy wires snapping. The wires snapped because the funnels were falling. Even if the deckhouse formed, which I think it did due to Fred Scott's Testimony, it would snap nearly all guy wires but based on my research, due to its design and how well built it was (that the funnels probably fell partially submerged but based on my research, only 40%) it wouldn't fall. Their is also evidence of this on the wreck, if it fell, the deckhouse would have been crushed and mangled. However, it isn't, so that would help suggest that it fell late. The damage to the first class smoking room was probably caused by the implosion. Unless the stern crashed back into the water, then the 4th funnel falling would be quite unrealistic. I doubt it even fell at the surface. If it fell at the surface, it would end up further from the stern but it is quite near to the stern so it probably would have disintegrated during the descent. It was built quite strongly so it couldn't have fallen unless the stern crashed back. It would require less force than the mast so if it fell, the mast would have fallen. While the 4th funnel was fake, it was quite structurally stable. Plenty of survivors said it stood long after break. These include Jack Thayer, Ida Hippach, Edward Buley, George Crowe, Samuel Rule, George Symons, Frank Evans, Fredrick Hoyt, Thomas Dillon, Ruth Becker, Patrick Dillon, Thomas Ranger, and John Collins. If it falls during or after break, it dismisses countless survivors. For example, Jack Thayer literally said that he saw the fourth funnel in the water still standing as the stern rose up.Ida Hippach and Edward Buley said that they watched the remaining funnel for several minutes.Thomas Dillon said that the funnel didn't fall until the ship actually went down.George Crowe, when asked, said that it remained standing after the stern floated back.John Collins said it was still visible when the ship turned over and went down. The reason everyone says it did was because it was shown in several popular theories. While scources like OASAG are great scources in my opninion, they went with the funnel collapse in break as it is the general consensus of what happened. Apologies for any offense, no offense meant.
@IloveCruiseShips19123 ай бұрын
Here is some of the testimony that mentioned it standing: Jack Thayer - Her stern was gradually rising into the air... the last funnel was about on the surface on the water... I do not believe it fell. Her deck was turned slightly towards us... the great after part of the ship, two hundred and fifty feet of it, rose into the sky, till it reached a sixty-five- or seventy-degree angle. Ida Hippach - The Titanic had keeled to one side and was slowly sinking. Less than twenty minutes after we touched the water, we heard two loud explosions. The explosions occurred almost simultaneously. The giant ship quivered from stem to stern. It parted almost in the centre and slowly sank. The last I saw of it was a single smokestack, which remained above water for several minutes Edward Buley - Q. Notwithstanding the darkness you could see the outline of the ship? A. Yes, sir; we could see the outline of the ship. Q. You could see the funnel? A. Quite plainly. George Crowe - After getting clear of the ship the lights were still burning very bright, but as we got away she seemed to go lower and lower, and she almost stood up perpendicular, and her lights went dim, and presently she broke clean in two, probably two-thirds of the length of the ship...one-third of the aft funnel sticking up. The after part floated back, ... then there was an explosion, and the aft part turned on end and sank Frank Goldsmith: You could still see the Titanic, but you could see only the back, halfway between the mast and the last funnel with the propellers straight up in the air and it hung there for, as a kid, it seemed five minutes. Then it gave a slight whoosh and down it went. There were no lights, but you could see the silhouette of it because the night was clear, the stars so bright.

For anyone wondering about why it shows the forward tower falls or why the lights went out in sections, this is why - Forward Tower - Several accounts from a range of angles said they saw a third section. Other survivors testified different break locations which can be accounted for with sections. The wreck even supports this. A counter argument is how would it end up where it did. Here is my logic for this. As said by another enthusiast, the forward tower is 4km under and 600 (i think,) metres from the wreck. It would only have to move forward by 1 metre every 6 metres it goes down. If it slid partially into the sea, this would give it more likely to get their as well. The corridors such as the promenade would allow for water to flow through rather than build up. Their would be not a lot of drag even though the current would be going the opposite direction due to layout. It might have also collapsed to the starboard side when it broke off to account for how it was far east when the ship listed to starboard in break. Another counter argument is how would the survivors who said it broke forward of the third funnel not notice the break location having moved back. Here is my logic. The bow would have separated before the tower fell showing a break Infront of the third funnel that they would have noticed. Some said it broke in the middle. They would have guessed it broke their, for example Arthur Bright instead of being more specific that it broke forward of the third funnel as the third funnel falling could have confused them as where it broke. They would have also used the funnels to determine break location so wouldn't be a 100% sure where it was as thee third funnel fell. Those who said it broke forward might not have noticed due to the funnel falling that there was a break behind and those that did could have guessed it was engines breaking out and not thought it was actually a third section. Those that didn't specify or said it broke in the middle may have said this as they weren't able to determine break location due to third funnel falling and tower breaking off so guessed it broke in the middle OR didn't say. Light sections - Several witnesses from a range of angles (Even, some on deck), mentioned the lights going out in sections as the vessel sank. Some even said the forward lights went out as early as Boat D leaving. This also aligns with how the lights were designed. They were divided into a series of circuits - Forward, Saloon, Middle, Navigation lights and aft. Several others seem to have mistook the lights going out in sections as a break. The circuits would go out one by one as water short circuited the equipment causing each circuit to fail. The consensus is that the forward lights failed as Boat D was lowering or finishing its loading, middle and saloon, during the plunge and aft going out in the break.

i cannot believe that papers wrote so soon after her sinking that she was "still afloat" or that "no lives lost". how offensive to read that everyone was safe and the ship would make it, only to later learn that your whole family was washed away in a night so frightening that its story would live on for generations.
@toddkurzbard3 ай бұрын
It was the accidental mix-up of 2 wireless messages: one asked "Are all TITANIC's passengers safe?", the other was of a German oil tanker named the DEUTSCHLAND that had lost maneuverability and had callen for help. The tanker had already been encountered by rescuers and was currently being towed to the nearest port. However, in the confusion, the DEUTSCHLAND's former plight had gotten mixed up with the question about the TITANIC. This led to the misinterpretation that the TITANIC was still afloat, and being towed to Halifax, and everybody was safe. The White Star Line even chartered a special train for the relatives of the passengers to meet their loved ones and families when the damaged TITANIC arrived in Halifax. As the train was speeding through the Maine woods, it suddenly stopped, and reversed back to its' departure point. White Star had just learned the TITANIC was gone, with a horrible loss of life. Nobody would be coming to Halifax, except dead bodies.

Only thing that could have made it much more realistic is that the lighting becomes MUCH darker when the lights go out, where the ship merely becomes a shadow amongst the backdrop of stars. If you could master this, it would be absolutely perfect. But great job nonetheless 👍

It’s so philosophical and ironic how the first class areas; dining rooms, bed rooms and salons, that were built to not be used by poor people or anyone who was not that important and wealthy, but then turned to be filled with salty ocean water and buried under the sea forever All the luxury in life is just for show off, at the end, everyone will die and nothing is valuable. At that time i think a boat was more precious than anything the first class passengers would think so luxurious

4:49 Actually,the 1997 titanic love story movie,which you have probably followed showed that first officer Murdoch,shot himself to death,but it is wrong,witnesses saw he never shot himself.I hope you improve this,but yet,great animation!

It’s weird how watching this is more disturbing to see than the movie titanic . So damn creepy ,this wasn’t just some ancient story , these were hundreds of lives lost . Can’t put a bow on that with a Hollywood movie .

Yeahhhh, despite there being no accounts of it (due to yk the sheer darkness) titanics fourth funnel was almost definitely ripped from its base when it was being pressed Forward into the water with the rest of the stern. The tear would be under the water but it would appear like the funnel was peeling back and righting itself to a position almost parallel to the almost vertical ship
@DannyDraws1912Ай бұрын
It’s unlikely it did. We have accounts from passengers like Jack Thayer who claimed they did not see it fall. It is possible that it did but until further evidence arises I believe it did not collapse at the surface
@IloveCruiseShips1912Ай бұрын
The 4th funnel was built very differently from the 3rd funnel. It was built much stronger and the guy wires were only their to help with Stability. I doubt it even fell at the surface. If it fell at the surface, it would end up further from the stern but it is quite near to the stern so it probably would have disintegrated during the descent. For example, Jack Thayer literally said that he saw the fourth funnel in the water still standing as the stern rose up.Ida Hippach and Edward Buley said that they watched the remaining funnel for several minutes.Thomas Dillon said that the funnel didn't fall until the ship actually went down. However, he was drunk at this stage and said it SEEMED to cant towards him and not that it actually did. George Crowe, when asked, said that it remained standing after the stern floated back. John Collins said it was still visible when the ship turned over and went down. The reason everyone says it did was because it was shown in several popular theories. While scources like OASAG are great scources in my opninion, they went with the funnel collapse in break as it is the general consensus of what happened. Apologies for any offense, no offense meant.

OK, this is pretty good animation - actually really good and probably one of the best I've seen, but a few points to make; Jack Phillips and Harold Bride have American accents but they were both English! Bride was a Londoner and Phillips was from Surrey. There is no credible evidence that anyone was shot by an officer or any other member of this ships crew. There is no credible evidence that an officer committed suicide - the whole concept is absurd, and those who stated they saw this were too far away to see anything in an almost pitch black night- in reality it was so dark if you put this animation into that night we would barely see anything other than dark shapes moving against a pitch black night. The crew were still on duty until the moment the ship sank; why would an office kill himself while trying to launch the last two life boats? Certainly NOT office Wilde. He died trying to do his job and the crew of this ship worked tirelessly and bravely to get as many women and children off as possible in an incredibly difficult and rapidly changing situation. Apart from that I'm glad you used survivor interviews as part of this animation; it really gives a sense of reality to what we are seeing. I did meet Eva Hart back in the 1990's which is one of the proudest achievements of my life. I met a survivor of the Titanic in the flesh and she was able to tell me what she witnessed. Absolutely fascinating, and as someone who has been obsessed by the Titanic since I was 5 it was a life time ambition. Even now the thought that I was talking to her and asking questions seems incredible that I got this chance to talk to her. If you like the Titanic read the newly released book 'The Triumvirate' by George Behe which I would highly recommend. About Captain Smith, Bruce Ismay and Thomas Andrews. I'm almost finish reading and it is excellent.

There is actually quite a lot the back a officer committing suicide that night and it points towards Wilde, Below is a snippet written by a friend of mine about the shooting that night, “There are survivors who witnessed the shooting and suicide of an officer such as Eugene Daly, George Rheims and John Collins were on-board when the boat deck flooded, Richard Williams heard gunshots from the starboard side as well Peter Daly and Victor Sunderland even heard rumours on-board the sinking Titanic an officer had shot himself Wilde his father died before he was born, his mother died when he was 9, his only surviving brother died in 1901, his infant twin sons died in December 1910 followed by his wife that same month and his letters show he was depressed for quite a while (while on the recovering side of things at the time of the maiden voyage however), I believe the sinking might have triggered something back including the likely realization that he wouldn’t make it out (there’s an account that describes something like that too)”

@@DannyDraws1912 I just want to say again I think this is the best sinking animation so far and I'm impressed by your work. I've watched a few times and thanks for putting this on KZbin. But as for Wilde shooting himself, or any other officer that night I do not think there is any evidence; it is heresy and rumor - I wasn't there and can't be 100% sure but for many reasons I am not convinced that any officer took this easy way out, for no obvious reason when they were going to die anyway. This was 1912, people were far less self centered in those days than they are now, and many would have seen this a cowards way out and being seen to do this would no only tarnish his name but that of his family. That bull**it movie in 1997 did a lot of reputational damage to the captain and officers, and I'll never forgive James Cameron for his depiction of Captain Smith and the other officers in his money making scheme to use the dead to get richer. Yes, shots were fired, but put it this way; some survivors do not remember hearing the ships band playing that night, even though we know the band did play right to the end. As Queen Elizabeth said in her fantastic put down of that Markle person 'recollections may vary'. And they did, as with any other event or disaster. Back to the officers, it is Murdoch or Captain Smith who are most often put forward as having done this - I don't want to use the 'S' word or my reply might be blocked by KZbin. I've never heard of Wilde - although of course I can't be 100% sure of anything that happened that night. Read 'The Sinking Of The Titanic' by Jay Henry Mowbray, this book focusses of survivor accounts in the days after the disaster, and some of the stories doing the rounds on the Carpathia and in the media and some are frankly ludicrous. For example, multiple survivors stated that Ismay left the Titanic in the first lifeboat, and on arrival on the Carpathia was only interested in getting something to eat. As for the officers, most of these who say they say an officer shoot themselves were frequently on a lifeboat that had left the ship and were too far away to make out anything other than vague figures. Remember it was pitch black that night with no moon, and towards the end the ships lights were failing. Even on deck it was dark before the situation became chaotic. Those still on the ship were surrounded by mayhem; they can not say with accuracy they saw Wilde / Murdoch or any other officer do this, especially considering there were two collapsible lifeboats still to be launched surrounded by a large crowd of men and women - there was still work to be done by the officers and lives to save. By the time the bridge dipped below the sea things were happening so fast most officers still on board (along with everyone else in that area of the ship) were in the water before they knew what hit them. Another aspect is that people like Daly and others were paid by the press for their survivor stories, and encouraged to 'sex up' their experience as much as possible. I've just finished reading 'The Triumvirate' by George Behe, about Ismay, Smith and Andrews. George Behe is a well know Titanic expert and his book is truly excellent - if you are interested in the Titanic I highly recommend it. There are many witness accounts I have never read before - quite refreshing considering most Titanic books keep rehashing the same stories over and over again. But again an officer shooting himself is dismissed. In fact it is clear the officers, captain and crew worked professionally (for the most part) and bravely to evacuate the ship of women and children. Something that surprised me was the fact that getting the third class women and children evacuated was also discussed by officers, but given the limited time barely put in action. I received yesterday (from Amazon) another new book 'Titanic's Unlucky Seven, The Story Of The Ill Fated Liner's Officers', by James Bancroft which I'll start to read today. Maybe there is something about this situation that will shed more light, although I've read just about every book I can get my hands on about the Titanic I don't think anything new will come to light. At the end of the day we will now never know. The survivors have all died and the statements are so confusing and jumbled I think it will be impossible to answer this question. I guess we will agree to disagree.
