My son is a Titaniac and we took him to Pigeon Forge's Titanic Museum back in 2016. Our hometown in Virginia used to have a Dupont plant that helped develop the formula for linoleum. We were completely shocked to learn that Titanic had linoleum on the grand staircase, being how much I absolutely hate our own linoleum bathroom floors. They told us in the 1910s that linoleum cost more than marble because it was the newest innovation. Crazy!

After Titanic, construction was halted on Brittanic in order to make safety changes. Brittanic had electronic lifeboat davits and they raised the water tight doors to top deck

war time policy was to have all watertight doors closed during sailing. had they followed that, that might have been enough to save the ship....that and captains orders to crew to closed all port holes. upside is we have a full sized olympic class ocean liner preserved......well in 400 foot of water

Apparently, one of the so-called safety features which were added to the Britannic after the Titanic's sinking only made it sink faster ! They added a second layer of hull plating inside the outer one but this meant that when the outer skin was breached, the whole ship flooded between plates the hole length of the ship. This brought it down even quicker.

One important difference has not been mentioned. On the Britannic, the lifts in the main staircase took passengers up to the boat deck. On Titanic and Olympic, the lifts were only built up to A deck.

Black is the hull or the body white is the deck with yellow stripe as yellow is the color of White Starline the company that made this ship. It is also common for oceanliner ships to have black hulls back in the day because they use coal in the boiler room to make the ship move to give the ship power to spin the propellers so giving it a white hull will make it look messy & will require more maintenance.

I'm surprised during the various refits of Olympic they never upgraded the swimming pool in Britannic style. They did add some of the other features such as the extra cabins on the boat deck, as well as many of the features from Titanic. Another thing Olympic never got was the enclosed A Deck promenade. Can't help think that there wasn't some superstition behind that, given both ships with that feature sank. One big change to Britannic not mentioned is that all first class cabins got their own private bathrooms, whereas on Olympic and Titanic other than the most expensive suits had to share facilities.

I am getting tired of people keep saying the Olympic and Titanic were switched. They were not. First, the 3 ships were not identical twins as they had several different changes, so it would have been noticed and secondly, the weekend when both Titanic and Olympic were docked next to each would not be enough time to switch everything in the ships. Each newer ship had made changes and improvements from the previous one

Yet the enclosed promenade A deck work was completed in the two weeks the two ships sat next to each other in dry dock, but hey go believe what you want!. To make matters even funnier, barely any photo's exist of the Titanic's interior itself, most of the pictures are Olympic so any differences would not even been known by anyone, also none of the plates, hardware or silverware say Titanic, they say White Start Line. Explain the Olympic having the EXACT same C deck sequence of bow windows AFTER Titanic sank? The list goes on and on.

@@Joshcheyka you do know that every part and paneling of Titanic had 401 stamped on it and Olypmic 400 This serial number was on every paneling every piece of machinery and more and the scrapped parts of Olympic wood paneling still has the serial number 400. So if you wanted to switch those ships you had to gut both of the ships and switch them in a matter of 40 days. When the Olympic was fitted out it took them 7 months. And there were thousands of people in Harland and Wolf shipyards there would have been at least 5 people to mention that thing and if you give Irish people the stereotype of drinking I am surprised no drunk worker would have said about the switch. And if you ask me about the 16 portholes on Titanic when it originally had 14 the workers decided to add more even Olympic had originally 14 port holes so what was it switched with the oceanic no no it was not. And Titanic's b deck had more cabins and a cafe and the c deck windows Titanic's were unevenly placed while Olympic's was evenly but it was not as popular.

Here's a little bit of knowledge that many people do not know about the Britannic, when it was first bring designed it went under another name the Gigantic, but ofcourse it never got to be used as a luxury liner like it's two older sisters. Britannic was designed to compete with the German Superliners. The loss of Britannic was a huge blow for the White Star Line. But they would receive the incomplete German Superliner Bismarck as a war reparation for the lost Britannic, now renamed Majestic. However, Cunard got her sister Imperator (renamed Berengaria) who rolled about, and the United States got Vaterland (renamed Leviathan) who couldn't serve alcohol because of prohibition in the 1920s. This left Majestic to be the best out of the 3 on paper, but they were all fantastic ships.

Britannic feels like they were throwing everything at it they felt it was lacking on the other ships compared to the Imperator class and Aquitania. It is the better ship of the three but some of these inclusions are clearly afterthoughts.

We actually have very little info on Britannic's planned interior. (There are zero photos of Titanic's Grand Staircase, for example) Much of what you show here is conjecture.

I don't know if I'm just not thinking correctly or what, but at the end of this video it is stated that Titanic was safer than Olympic, but how is that the case? Olympic and Titanic had the same number of lifeboats, they also to my knowledge had the same amount and height of water tight compartments. The small pumping ability of both were I assume the same also. With that said how exactly was Titanic safer than Olympic because I'm not understanding? After Titanic sank I know Olympic became safer than Titanic was by adding more lifeboats and added to the height of the existing water tight bulkheads, and they also added water tight bulkheads on the side of the hull like a battle ship would have because of the undetonated torpedo they found sticking out of the side of Olympic in dry dock one day.

well you got to understand that titanic and olympic were both made to combat the mauritania and the lusitania, Britannic was made to combat the massive, beautiful ballin trio, Imperator, Bismarck and Vaterland, all were larger than Britannic in the long shot. Thats why the pool in britannic was changed. Britannics deck plans only show 8 private bathrooms, however SS vaterland and bismarck had 50 bathrooms, so Britannic was upgraded to fit those likings. Olympic and titanic were supposed to have britannics grand staircase, but the organs could not be finished in time. Britannic is also often compared to Aquatania, however Britannic outclassed Aquatania in every way. Aquatania was designed to combat the Imperator. Britannics supposed-to be rival, and eventual replacement( RMS MAJESTIC / SS BISMARCK) was britannics intended rival.

The Titanic is definitely the most beautiful and has the best balanced design. But don't forget all the modifications they did on the Olympic after Titanic's sinking. Great upgrade! I do think the outside of the Britannic is ugly.
