Awesome machine Tom. I love these old machines. Never owned one of these either, though I did have a G4 1.67 a few years ago as a non-connected machine for writing, one of the best keyboards ever. It's funny to think that in 20 years time people (maybe even us) will be looking at Intel Macs in the same light that we look at PPC Macs currently, if they survive as well as these old things have. Great video as always, though not massively keen not eh mono audio. I actually prefer the camera mic, especially for classic IMNC videos though I fully appreciate I'm probably firmly in a minority. Keep up the great work.

Thanks, Ashley! It really is an awesome machine, and I can confirm the keyboard on this one is just as nice as the aluminium. Funnily enough, I was thinking the exact same thing last week while checking out an old white MacBook from 12 or so years ago. I've started to get similar feelings towards those early Intel machines that I have for some of the PPC stuff. I do get filled with nostalgia seeing the MacBook in particular though, they were just everywhere! Thanks for the audio feedback (no pun intended).

Nice!, I’ve never used a titanium model though I’ve only got the one aluminium from early 2005, it’s the 1.67ghz non high res one, need to get it an OS still. The keyboard feel and the thin screen bezels for something of that age is still something to gawk at for sure. My first iPhone was a 3GS too, though I got one much later on in its lifecycle (iOS 5 had just came out for it) Thanks for the awesome content as always Tom 👌

My 8th and 9th grade computer teacher had a first generation 500MHz TiBook. It was such a beautiful machine compared to the POS Toshiba Satellite machines all the other teachers had, with Windows ME, bleh! Her room also had 29 600MHz iMac G3s, a 700MHz first gen 15" iMac G4 for a teachers station, and a Dual 450mhz Gigabit Ethernet PowerMac G4 with a 17" CRT Apple Studio Display, the awesome translucent one. It was a glorious time to be a Mac person. When I became her assistant I got to have that PowerMac G4 as, for all intents and purposes, my personal machine for school work and tech support, since literally no one else ever used it. She never assigned students to that machine, such a waste of what was probably a $3500 configuration. So for two years I had my personal 500Mhz Snow iBook and a Dual 450 G4 at school. I pretty much single-handedly maintained all the Macs and most of the PCs in that school for the two years I was there, had a whole lot of fun and learned how to fix just about every type of Mac Apple was making in the early 2000s. Now that you mention the PowerBook G3 I might have to dig out my Pismo and see if she still boots.

Wow, IMNC PowerPC videos still going strong :) The Titanium PowerBook has always been an interesting Mac model to me, as it's like it actually skipped a design generation, replacing the black PowerBook G3 but being an early "modern Apple" design at its early 2001 launch when the other models were still the 1998-based curvy designs with the iMac and iBook even still having the translucent colours! 867MHz & 768MB haha like a palindrome :P French THPS3 - "jeu" is game, in Spanish it would be "jeugo".

Couldn't agree more! I rewatched the keynote and you can tell from the audience that it was a total 'Wow! What the heck?' moment, in a good way of course! The design is simply perfect. I didn't think of this until after the video.... but unfortunately, I did use a CD-R, so no closer to the answer on what's going on.
@rschrader3 жыл бұрын
One the Windows side of the world, there used to be a thing with writing CDs. Some CDs were ‘+’ and some were ‘-‘. Depending on your CD-writer - you had to have one that was able to write ‘+’ CDs vs one that could write ‘-‘ CDs. Later on writes and CDs could write/accept both. Can’t remember if we had to format blank CDs before using them.

I liked this video very much and hope you can help me. I have a 2006 Mac Mini with Snow Leopard. Is there a way to partition it to run OS 9 as I would love to play older games. One older game I still love is Civilization 3 complete but when I tried to run it on the Mac Mini it kept crashing & I got a message saying I had to have a Power PC G4 with a minimum of 500 megahertz to run it. Can I run the game on a Titanium Powerbook ? I love older Mac games and miss playing them. My other favorites were Diablo 2 and Command & Conquer but I never finished Diablo 3 because I could not kill the monster in the castle courtyard and kept dying. I have games and software going back to System 7 and have almost every manual and install disks for everything after the Performa 550 which I once bought at a garage sale for $50. I had Imac G3s, clamshell Ibooks and Imac DVs as well. I am trying to see if I can get the 2006 to be able to access the net as well. It will run Safari but is very limited. I hope to change the CPU next year and add memory to it. I am afraid to upgrade the OS because I would lose the ability to run Diablo 2 and I looked at about 10 newer Imac games that would run on my Mac Mini and could only find one I would ever play. I also still have my Apple ][GS. ][E, Enhanced ][E, ][C, ][+ & an integer based Apple ][ as well. I also have a 2008 Imac and several Imacs needing repair and a Thunderbolt display I found sitting on the sidewalk that has the glass shattered and the Apple logo broken in a shard and I am hoping somehow to get it restored next year. I am also amazed that the umbrella or lamp G4 which I once had is almost IMPOSSIBLE to find in a 20 inch size now and it goes for outrageous amounts on Ebay. I would love to see someone mod one to run a Mac Mini on it because it was the greatest design for a Mac ever except for the G4 Cube which are getting incredibly expensive as well if you can find one that actually works. I hope to be able to buy both next year because I have a Mac Aquarium that someone made out of a Cube case and it would look so cool to see a Cube running next to a lighted Cube aquarium on my bedroom Mac table. One thing I hated about older Macs is the DVI connector though for displays I will soon be having a 20 inch Cinema Display, a 27 inch Thunderbolt Display and eventually a 30 inch Cinema Display as well because I am visually impaired due to cataract surgery and cannot see small print well. I was very gratified to see that the 30 inch can be used with modern Imacs and apparently maybe my Silicon M1 Mac Mini. I am hoping to find a splitter to allow me to have my Mac Mini connect to the 30 inch and to also allow me to switch to my 2014 Sony Bravia which still runs like new. I need the large screens more than ever because a side effect of getting the EVIL Pfizer vaccine for Covid is it made my hands, fingers, toes and feet go numb with screaming pain and years later that is still happening and one day while I was in bed I dropped one of my Ipads on my right eyeball & I damaged the cataract leans implant & it needs to be replaced.

Have you had a 720p video play smoothly on a G4 Mac? In my experience, that simply never works. I have to assume it's because of the paltry bus speed on G4 and earlier Macs, whereas a G5 can play anything I throw at it. Shame that chip ran so hot and couldn't keep up with Intel and AMD in the end, because it would have been interesting to see Apple stick with it.
