I use a repurposed harrible freight sand blasting booth and purge the air out with a shop vac, (a few pinches of magnesium powder in a grounded (contact) ceramic lamp insulator to start a test arc, when the magnesium doesn’t ignite, the titanium won’t because theres no oxygen. I use this for stainless because the fumes are sucked out of the shop

I have been messing around with a titanium build for some time now, and I know 7075 aluminum can be stronger than most titanium’s but I want it for a a boat because it’s less reactive to hot and cold temps as well as salt water. What machine specs will I need to weld 1/4” titanium grade 5?

Back in the day when Oxy-acetylene welding was king, what type of flux was used to keep the reactive metal from damaging oxygen ??? Thanks Mr. Tig

Mister Tig were is the oximeter? You just wait until it's good also works but it's a great tool, I use a extra too (costume build)l to attach on the torch, I use 3 backing gas 🤪, and welding is this, there's a lot of technics that we can learn, every pipe every material demands different techniques, even the distance from the tungsten to the cup matters. Thanks for helping Young generation's 🙏🏽

Why does the color matter? Shouldn't that be just surface oxidation?
@postaldudemcdude6192
@postaldudemcdude6192 6 жыл бұрын
Brenden Fullmer Actually, you nailed the reason it matters in your comment; the color indicates the oxidation state of the metal, which in turn, indicates how much the weld has reacted with the oxygen and hydrogen (and many other gases) in the air. This reaction can cause inferior and/or brittle welds. It doesn't mean there's anything wrong with the physical side of your technique (i.e. angle of the dangle, motion of the ocean) rather, you were too slow or amperage was too high and the metal got cooked. TL;DR: Once the weld starts to react with the air, the part is as good as trash.

I always have a giggle when chemists (respectable in their own right, mind you) weigh in and tell a skilled welder what he's doing wrong. This is Rembrandt level welding. The only way to understand it is to do it. NASA is the most stressful work place on the fucking planet by the way.
