Always feel like a boss whipping out my quantumike, watching peasants roll their standard mics on their palms and forearms. Had no idea there was anything quicker, looks like I'm no longer the fastest micrometer in the west
@cedrickropp3 жыл бұрын
I got a question? Why did you not use the ratchet (aka the part responsible for consistent measurement pressure), I was taught that this might make a difference of up to a 1/100 of a mm.
@travisjarrett23554 жыл бұрын
Accuracy ratings for the micrometers seen are listed as: 0-1” Standard Micrometer ±.00005 0-1” QuantuMike ±.00005 0-1.2” QuickMike ±.0001
@almanimaxim42233 жыл бұрын
which seems like a lot, but its literally completely OK, even for tightest tolerances. to put that into metric perspective, the quickmike is precise to 2u and both other to 1u- that does not mean its 100% less precise of course, its just only 1u more as a proportional tolerance- thats better then the operator can measure honestly
@Meineoma854 жыл бұрын
Who cares about seconds if there are tolerances in the measurement? I would like to see the sheet of each contestant and see if the measurement are the same or not. I dont buy micrometers for speed but for accuracy, thats their main job.
@stamrly4184 жыл бұрын
That opened my eyes to speed and repetitive measuring with differing bits of equipment. The saving over one part is not worth shouting about but if you have to do it multiple times the savings will allow more parts to be inspected in the working bday / hour. Allowing shipping to be done sooner.. So exceeding the purchasers expectation. Amacf

Would it help to just have multiple micrometers setup to different ranges? Maybe a little more exotic would be a micromter with a builtin ultrasonic motor that could rapid traverse the thimble.
@69mrnikolai4 жыл бұрын
these guys don't use the calibrated ratchet? its so important, i have one and not using the ratchet gives different results
@Nidkidful4 жыл бұрын
These often have a friction thimble, which is just as precise, if not more so, or the whole thimble ratchets
@peterCheater4 жыл бұрын
Quantumike and quickmic the entire thimble ratchets. The regular, only the top portion.
@Obem2115 Жыл бұрын
Not every ratchet is the same. Sometimes it’s the top small one and sometimes it’s the bottom big one. Different micrometers are built different.

I just started a job learning to rebuild spindles. Using micrometers is pretty much a daily task for me(although currently just cleaning and disassembling spindles). But for beginners do you think it’s better to start out with the old school micrometers and learn how to read the measurements vs having a electronic display? I’d love to have the electronic display but I don’t know if that’ll hurt me meaning by making things easier for me rather than learning. Or do you see it as times are changing and things are done differently now.

Been using the quantumike for years. Incredibly accurate for the speed and price. But I still pull out the old Starret for .0001 work.

I can confirm first mic style are quality micrometers. Great battery life, no weird issues.

I just got some new 12" Mitutoyo digital Absolut calipers for $288 on Zoro. MSC wants like $400 and that's with a sale. Just an FYI for anyone shopping for measuring tools.

I did not know this type of digital micrometer, very interesting, really for measurements and diameters with large variations and several pieces, it speeds up the work ..... thanks for sharing information ... hugs here in Brazil ...

My 55 year old Sterrett is still accurate within .0001. Why change..
@henrychan7204 жыл бұрын
Does your 55 year old starrett go from 0 to 1.2” in 2 seconds and does it send the measurements to a computer directly?
@maxpowerii73684 жыл бұрын
Henry Chan plus anyone can read a digital reading, interpreting a micrometer scale accurately is a skill typically only learnt by skilled engineers. If you need an operator or less skilled employee to use one it’s easy than having to train them and trust them to read it accurately.
@gregoryraffa99714 жыл бұрын
I've never said this before, but I can't think of a better situation.... "okay, boomer".
@almanimaxim42233 жыл бұрын
because the starret relies on its spindle which will wear out inhomogenously- the quickmike has a linear sensor which is completely wear free and precise under every circumstance. and i bet, your starret is precise within some range, but not over the full range,some parts of the spindle are more worn then others reducing relative precision

The video title needs to be changed. Somewhere is the lines of digital micrometer differences and possible advantages. I don't see any difference in technology and or efficiency between either Mic. To compare efficiency we would need to see all the measurements of the three candidates using all three mics achieving consistent readings.
