Hello Caroline, Really appreciate your opinion on these questions I am having related to the Title and Subtitle. 1) Do we always have to insert the exact "Main Keyword" in our "Title, Subtitle or Spine" of our book? 2) I have seen number of "Self Published Books" with good BSR's which don't include the "Main Keyword in the Title, Subtitle or Cover". How are they selling those books? 3) I found a profitable "longtail keyword". Still it doesn't sound good (I mean it is not attractive enough to be used as a book title). So how can I target my book on that keyword? Will adding that keyword into the "7 backend keywords" help my book to rank on the first page? Will it be helpful to get more customers? 4) Can I create a book title and subtitle with other relevent keywords? I mean "without adding the main keyword"? Thank you very much.
@MyFreedomEmpire2 жыл бұрын
Hello! 1. Yes, you should always have your main keyword in the title. But don't repeat it in the subtitle. 2. They could have it on the spine and you just can't see it in the Amazon preview. 3. You could add it to your 7 keyword slots and then use it as a keyword in ads. 4. You should have your main keyword as your title and then related keywords as your subtitle. Hope that answers some of your questions.

It did make clear what to put in the title and subtitle with books that have something written on their cover. But what about plain journals or notebooks that maybe only say "Journal" or "Notes"?! Should I only put "Journal" in the title? and how is that then not considered "stealing the book title" from the many other journals that don't have more than this one word written on their covers?
@gremics-gallery2 жыл бұрын
A great video from Freedom Empire, thanks for the content here. Doesn't AMZ rank your book in the search for all the different combinations of the words in your title? So the Jade Summer title "100 Amazing Patterns" example that use here in your video... The AMAZON search would jumble around those (3) words and Numbers " 100, Amazing, Patterns" into every combination of these and you would appear in the search for those results. We see it make sense as it's written, but, if somebody was to write the title backwards for example. "Patterns Amazing 100" You still get your book to show up in the search results. Of course, which page you get shown on is up to your BSR at the time I suspect? This is a whole other video and really the key to what people are after.

If, for example, I were publishing a hydration log book, which "keyword" would make more sense: hydration or hydration log book? What I mean is, when adding the 7 keywords, would you only list the main keyword such as hydration (or water-intake, drinking, etc...) in this example, OR add the extra defining parts such as: log book, journal, notebook, etc... in each box?
@MyFreedomEmpire3 жыл бұрын
I would add the extra parts and be as specific as possible. So hydration logbook.

Hello and thank you for all your video contents on KDP, very good ones!!! I would like to ask you: if I need to put the title on the spine, is there a minimum page number to have enough space to write the title? Does it work with120 pages or it is too small to read it?

Hello! You're welcome! Your book needs to have at least 79 pages before you can put text on the spine.

So I didn’t put a subtitle on my book because I thought the subtitle had to be on the cover. If I go back and add a subtitle to the ebook and hardcover versions (Amazon won’t let me add it to the paperback but will to the ebook, and Ingramspark let’s me add it to the hardcover) will my book versions stay linked on Amazon?

You're welcome! If you are looking at your Reports Dashboard there should be a little blue box jus near the top of the page that says "NEW! Try the new KDP Reports beta. Hi Caroline, if you were to publish a book that was date specific and which would therefore need updating when the date expired, would you put the date in the title? If so, you would need to upload a new version each time it expired and would therefore lose all the reviews. Would it be a disadvantage to have the date in the body of the blurb and keep the title generic so you can just update the same product each time? Thanks from a Carolyn
@MyFreedomEmpire3 жыл бұрын
Hello Carolyn! I get called caroLYN all the time 😂 If you put a date in the title you can't change it so if your plan was to just re-upload the book each time the date changes then I wouldn't recommend putting the date in the title. You could put it in the description because you can update that. You could have a heading at the top of your description that was something like "REVISED - 2021 EDITION" or something that like to try to make it stand out in the description. Because yes, you'll lose reviews if you have to create a new listing every time you want to update the book. In saying that, without knowing what kind of book it is, I wouldn't worry about having to do new listings. If it's something like a planner I'd create a new listing each year for the new year's planner. Hope that helps.

Great vid! What if my low content book has no words on the cover (eg. a journal with a graphic)? What am I allowed to write as a title in this case? Thank you!
@MyFreedomEmpire3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Amazon's "rules" say that your title must be listed on the cover (on the spine or front cover) so I'm not sure you'd be able to upload it without a title. If you don't want a title on the cover, it'd have to go on the spine.

Hello and thank you for the info. However, if the word on the cover is 'Notebook' does it mean that the title field is allowed to have just this 1 word? Or can i add some descriptive words to the title, something along the lines of let's say 'Simple Lined Notebook' or 'Floral Dot Grid Notebook' or 'Minimalist Art Notebook' etc? However it would look totally crazy to use the same phrase as a title written on the cover or spine. I have never ever seen a listing with a 1 word title "notebook" or "journal" or "planner" on Amazon, ever. It's contradictory what the guidelines are vs how LCBs are actually listed - - aka "Cute White and Gold Journal for Girls, Moms, Teachers and Bossbabes with lined pages, habit trackers and affirmation pages".
@MyFreedomEmpire2 жыл бұрын
You're welcome! If you only have the word Notebook on the cover and/or spine then that's what goes in the title field and then you add all that extra stuff in the subtitle field. So when you are on Amazon and you are looking at a book's listing, the title is the words before the : and then the subtitle is all the words after the : You can put words that aren't on the cover in the subtitle field.

thank you for this amazing content , plz i want to ask something as a beginner in this work , i published more than 40 books and i make just a few sales ( 10 sales in 4 months ) the problem is : i tried the single keywords and the longtail keywords but thats not work , my question is ; when i will use a clear and simple keywords in the title i will find a lot of competition for those phrases , so it s hards to have a good rank without ADS , also if i use just 2 keywords in the subtitle or just 1 , thats give me a less chance to have my book in the first page ? sorry for my language but i wish you can understand my question . and give me an advice if this strategy can help me as a beginner publisher not use any Ads , thank you
@MyFreedomEmpire3 жыл бұрын
Only using 1 or 2 keywords in the title or subtitle just means your book is more targeted to people who are looking for you type of book. There is no point filling your title and subtitle with irrelevant keywords, because people won't buy your book anyway. If you are not using ads then you just have to have patience to see if the book with rank organically. Use free methods of promotion like building a brand where you can promote your books through social media channels. Also hone in on your keyword research to find those niches that aren't as saturated and just keep making books.

Thanks! I have a question. If the title and subtitle are our most important keywords, then if I shorten the subtitle to, for example, one phrase instead of three, this reduces the chance of finding my book, right? I don't mean stuffing with keywords, but when I find "good" phrases, should I give them up or put them in the 7 box? (in the 7 box they no longer have the same strength as in the subtitle).
@MyFreedomEmpire3 жыл бұрын
Well it would all depend on how relevant the keywords are to your book. Do you really think that your book is highly targeted to 4 different keyword phrases? If so, then use them in the title and subtitle but if they are keywords that are only kinda related to your book and you are just trying to pull customers who aren't really looking for your exact book then I'd put it in the 7 keyword slots instead. Reason being is that if you are using keywords in your subtitle that aren't highly targeted, you'll find you'll probably get people clicking on your book because the keyword drew them there, but then they don't buy the book when they see it isn't exactly what they are looking for. Eventually Amazon will think no one wants your book because you're attracting the wrong customer who is clicking but not buying your book and it'll stop showing it in search results.

Hello, personally I wouldn't list this as adult content. I feel that adult content is the content within the book so would usually apply to adult books like erotic or steamy romance books etc. The only issue you will have with swear words on the cover of a book is that you can't advertise it on Amazon ads.
