Welliver is one of those character actors who is really good in everything you see him in. Deadwood was pretty much just a show full of actors like that.

With the beard, period suit-of-clothes, and hair, Titus Welliver literally looked like he stepped out of a historical picture book of the REAL west. His portrayal was amazing.

i'll have to give it a watch. i loved him as Silas, didn't even put it together that he played Bosch (i've seen it advertised but i'm not a huge series watcher) lol. every actor on Deadwood i see in these sorts of interviews, i think "wow i loved them in that part" and there's such a rich detailed backstory of their character that flood your memory because the writing was so amazing. Titus certainly was a part of why i loved that show so much.

@Simon Lomax It was good, but I wouldn't say brilliant. It could easily have been a 3 hour movie and still not had enough time to properly "tie up loose ends". All it really did was rehash main plot points from the show, practically reintroduced the cast (as if everyone has forgotten), and played out like an episode.....instead of truly ending the story. It left a few strings dangling and had a sort of very minor cliffhanger.

@@owensweetland342 - Incorrect. It rarely has to do with EGO, child. As humans, our brains actually can't handle the tasks of thinking of the right words and focusing on a face at the same time. Some humans have less of an issue with this, while a vast quantity do. Keeping eye contact can be overstimulating and interrupt the cognitive process. This is why it's easier to maintain eye contact while listening, but the speaker will glance away when they begin to communicate. "A recent experiment conducted in Japan suggests that eye contact draws on the same mental resources used for complex tasks, so trying to maintain eye contact can impede your reasoning. In this case, the break in eye contact comes not from emotion, but from the need to preserve cognitive resources. If he thinks bringing personal life feelings/ experience into acting is not acting.. Brando, Pacino, and DeNiro called, they're willing to give back their Oscars and denounce their work.. Great acting can never NOT incorporate personal experience and emotion, it's not possible. Is it possible to do a serviceable job without creating that in your head? To a point yes. But if you want to convey truth, your body and mind is forced to use what it knows, regardless if you're playing a role that fits you or not, meaning your ability to feel and act on an emotion comes from who you are as a person. It's then you as an actor that takes that knowledge into your work. Does someone need to 'be in character' 24/7 to reach this point? Not necessarily, but it does make the experience more fluid and easier to access. Acting without needing to access your well of feelings and thoughts is what bad acting looks like. It's blank and not in touch to what's happening. It's completely surface with nothing underneath. Anybody can do that.. What makes this business an art form is the ability to harness and focus bad acting, into great acting. And that is done with preparation, relaxation, and focus. Intermingled within that is your ability to access the depths of your being, the knowledge of your emotions, however you want to word it. And then the way you deliver it is the technical skill. Bit if a rant here, but I cant fuckin stand it when an actor, even one with a resume, says "well I don't think that's acting.." But there are actors more talented than yourself who do! So that kind of craps on your point.
@ronwhite8503

De Niro, Pacino and Brando are three of the most overrated actors ever; they've done about five good films between them....and yes I watched most of their stuff. De Niro gurns and Pacino rants and chews his way through the scenery in most of his roles. Welliver is better at his craft than than those three.

Roger Wayne Fair enough...but I’m reminded of a story told by Dustin Hoffman filming Marathon Man who went without sleep for 36 hours to film a scene where he was supposed to be exhausted and ‘out of it’. His co star a certain Laurence Olivier (you might have heard of him...) said to Dustin...”Next time dear boy...just act!” I think that sums it up...you don’t need to BE the character... it’s about the CRAFT of acting. 🙂
@TheeRogerWayne
@TheeRogerWayne 4 жыл бұрын
@@steven2809 I can't even remember my thoughts 10 months ago when I wrote this. Yeah the Hoffman story has been recycled for years, and it has merit, but Olivier mainly was a stage actor. What I'm really referring to is film acting. Really good, raw, acting for On-camera.
