The noise is definitely a huge L for me but I hope they release the G305 version for all the PMM users. You gotta try out the Ghostglides Cyclones man, they are easily the smoothest skates I've tried on glass.

12:30 I have the tiniest nit-pick. I've noticed in a couple videos covering the Obsidian Pros, you say "polyurethane," but the PE in UHMWPE is "polyethylene." Polyurethane is usually abbreviated as PU. Polyethylene is abbreviated as PE. Obviously, this has no bearing on any of the rest of the information in your reviews (which are great). I just thought I would mention it. But as always, this was an interesting, informative review.

The durability is amazing I have to admit - but right now I'm running my Viper V3 Pro using Xraypad's Obsidian Air dots in a Cordura pad, and the speed is pretty nice to my liking. Will keep an eye on this anyway, I hope it's not too slow on a fast/hybrid pad.

nice review! any idea how these would compare to corepad ctrls and how these skates would fair on a hybrid/balanced control pad like the aqua control zero? I know you mentioned it would not be as nice on control pads but wanted to see how it would be on control pads that were on the faster/balanced side as opposed to super slow control pads
@mel0nFPS
@mel0nFPS 4 күн бұрын
I haven't tried them myself but seeing as the CTRLs are still PTFE, the Xacts will still be significantly more controlled (based on how they compare to other control PTFE skates like the X-rayPad Obsidian skates).

Just today i made me some plastic skates from four (Plate rounds 2x2 from Lego). Sanded the bottom part down to proper height and they feel and look like dot skates but more durable ofc. The glide is very smooth and the stopping power is very good even on a cordura pad .

I don't understand your balance point as a person who has used both full sized / dot / smaller pad skates on a variety of surfaces. How exactly are full sized pads unbalanced? Do you mean a lack of balance in terms of speed on the front of the mouse vs back or a balance issue where the front and back or sides are unbalanced in height? (Thanks for the IKEA pad video love that thing still xd)
@tewwabyte
@tewwabyte 4 күн бұрын
yes, this. (i assume he means speed in the front and back) and then also how is this supposed to work physically giving the benefit of the doubt maybe hes arguing with things like base material displacement being higher with larger skates when you press really hard or sth like that or varying pressure being applied by the user but i think this needs some clarification
@mel0nFPS
@mel0nFPS 4 күн бұрын
So, the imbalance comes from the differing amounts of friction on the top and bottom skates; the skate's heights are consistent with my experience. Using the X2H stock skates as an example, the top skate has more friction than the bottom skate due to its larger surface area, so the X2H feels top-heavy. While on the DAV3's Xacts, since the bottom skate has a larger surface area than the top skates, the DAV3 feels bottom-heavy. On normal PTFE stock skates, the difference between a mouse's top and bottom skate's friction isn't as noticeable as PTFE is a much faster material. So the different frictions between the skates is "covered up" by the faster PTFE material. But on the Xacts, since the skate material is so highly controlled, the friction differential between a mouse's top and bottom skates is significantly amplified by the more controlled material. Hope that explains what I meant! Glad you're still rocking the IKEA Glass 🎯
@tewwabyte
@tewwabyte 4 күн бұрын
@@mel0nFPS but why does more surface area mean more friction
@Astro-uv1xq
@Astro-uv1xq 4 күн бұрын
@@tewwabyte Drag the tip of your finger on your mousepad. Now do your entire hand. Your hand is slower because you're dragging more surface on the pad, same with the skates and their surface. More surface area = more friction, even if most skates are meant to have very little friction
@tewwabyte
@tewwabyte 4 күн бұрын
@@Astro-uv1xq no. for the materials and scales in question here (mouse feet and mousepads that are parallel) surface area does not affect friction in a meaningful way unless ou also want to look at how deep a skate sinks into the base material. it is proportional to the force applied to the mouse.
