TJ's Rabbit Hoarder Mom Filled Up The House With Rabbits And This Is The Tour!

One day I decided to go around my house back in 2002 to video record just how out of hand the rabbit hoarding situation had gotten. My mom usually wouldn't let me go down into the basement and record her so I decided to do all of this when she was out one afternoon. This all happened on February 8, 2002.

It actually wasn't bed, my Mom cleaned the cages daily. I swear she would tend to the animals at least 8 hours a day, it was insane. Then she started not doing it every day on purpose in attempt to get my Dad to leave, then it was unbearable at times.

Hi TJ, it's me Jax again. I was wondering why some rabbit's had their own cages while other rabbits the same size and same size cage had sometimes two or three rabbits in cage? It made me feel bad because they couldn't walk around. I hope you are doing well, and your family. Your Dad lives in all your fans hearts, at least mine as I feel I know him in a sense from watching these video's. Also, I have to say that I think your family would have made a GREAT reality TV show! Take care TJ!

I couldn't agree more, my mom rescued them but should of made more of an effort to get the animals homes instead of filling our house with them. Her heart was in the right place but this was very unhealthy and not logical at all. I think she was mentally ill at the time?

The elderly dog has vestibular disease. Nothing the owner did to cause that to the dog. It's the "Old Dog" disease. They need help with having too many rabbits. It's not for a lack of care & concern. It's much to do with rabbit care education.

I have six bunnies and six hamsters of my own and I have a one-bedroom apartment but their enclosures are huge I have one free roam mine gets plenty of attention love and affection their enclosures are very clean the litter boxes are very clean your mother is cruel then bunnies live in small cramped filthy cages that is not healthy at all Animal Control need to take those rabbits and she needs to be charged with animal cruelty and go to jail or at least a huge find and not allowed to own another rabbit or animal period at all

I completely agree and any psychologist would as well. Note she rescued all of them though. She was saving their lives and it just became overwhelming. She would clean their cages and feed them for sometimes 8 hours straight a day, 2 or 3 times a week. Like my dad said, 'You made yourself a full time fucken job here tending to your zoo'.

This isn’t a proper rescue. She should have gotten in touch with a local rabbit rescue and worked with them to intake and properly house these rabbits until they can find a real loving home. Honestly this is appalling. If her heart is really in the right place she would give them to a rabbit rescue.

Looks like a pet store supplier. All pet species and breeds, breeding pairs, no 'sell age' babies though I see some older ones crammed into a small cage. Did the pet store return those? They're being bred for profit in any case. Cages are way too small, rabbits on wire who need resting surfaces, and that's just too many to keep in a home. Feed bags need to be sealed. Animals are surprisingly clean. ^ This is one of many reasons why pet stores shouldn't be allowed to sell animals. Most of them end up using only one supplier, they prefer the security, reliability, and perks of having a single breeder ('supplier') rather than people just dropping off animals for them.

I keep a pet rabbit, and he has a run at least once a day...but I still feel it is cruel to keep these animals as pets...they should be running free in the wild. I wish pet shops would STOP selling them! (My bunny was a rescued domestic rabbit I found roaming in the street! People release them once they've had enough!!)

Having listened to all of the arguments between your parents, I think I understand why your Mom decided to put all of her time into bringing that many home given that your Dad never really paid any attention to her and if I remember correctly she didn't feel like anybody appreciated anything she did for you or did anything for her in return (though I think her need to do everything herself was the reason why, but that's just my guess). All that being said, that doesn't make it right for her to hoard all of these animals no matter what kind of resentment she held towards her family or how many times she'd say "I'll do what I want!" so I don't blame your Dad or you for being upset with her. And I can only hope that somewhere deep down all these years later she realizes that she went too far here.

That could be way worse. Rabbits cages get dirty really fast and all those cages have been cleaned recently and they all have clean water and food. Someone is spending a lot of time looking after them. If the cages were stacked neatly and it was organized and there weren't so many it wouldn't be so bad. That's too many animals for one person to take care of.
