I am extraordinarily proud of the dedicated and impressive effort shown by the West Salem percussion section at NWAPA Festival of Bands at Autzen Stadium. Percussion is scoring well both at NWAPA and BOA events --- Go everyone especially Grayson and staff. The whole band has shown significant, persistent. dedication and focus to have achieved another high set of scores just a breath or two below the long overdue success of Grant's Pass-- who have returned with full hope and effort seven years in a row without a "Championship" in the Festival of Bands at Autzen Stadium. West Salem's second place by a narrow 0.5 point margin is what Grant's Pass has endured six consecutive times not to mention similar stories for the five other Open Class Ensembles-- Southridge, Century, Central Valley. Sherwood, Kamiak -- who also play their hearts out. With patient persistence under the direction of Grant's Pass has vindicated the earlier phase of the Todd Zimbelman program of dedication and focus. No Shame to Grant's Pass in 2017; and no shame to West Salem in 2018. Just two "siblings" with ongoing rivalry and respect.-- less than a point difference back and forth 2017 and 2018. They make each other stronger. In that regard meet the Russ Miner, the previous manager of the Black Bear Restaurant in Grant's Pass with whom I enjoyed an interesting and emlightening conversation in 2015 when West Salem went to compete in the Grant's Pass Following his six years in Grant's Pass as Director of the Cavemen Marching Band --Todd Zimbelman left an ongoing legacy of disciplined, focused and dedicated practice and exhuberant musicianship

Hi nick and yeah, GP was better. The prelims performance of this cost them the win though.

After 2 year of listening to the 2018 bands, I have came to the conclusion that I believe West Salem had the best written show in 2018

Pretty impressive how the battery still performs well with an odd balance of 2 snares, 2 quads, and 5 basses

This is what a marching show SHOULD look like, not a mashup of random crap songs that don't tell a story.

John Mackey is one of my favorite composers and this is now one of my favorite bands, sweet Edit: Also at 10:29 that's gotta be the band shaking the camera right

West Salem won this out right!!! They got cheated. They are a discipline marching band that performs and wins at the highest levels… They are not a dance team with instruments like their opponent. When a finals judge is from the winning school that is a conflict of interest and shady. Duh

@@Name-fc3xp negative Ghost Rider they are the top marching band in the NW hands down. End of discussion

@@gleek0707 I agree. I’m from Idaho and their better than any of the bands here
@OregonFireBuff9 ай бұрын
Agreed, but where’d you hear that the judge was alumni of GP? That is extremely shady.
