TJM Air compressor Vs ARB high output compressor. TJM Compressor install and first look - HGT

When TJM released there new HD vehicle mounted air compressor I was keen to see how it would compare to the iconic ARB high output air compressor that has been around for ever. The results might surprise you!
When my good mate Damo decided it was time for onboard air i was quick to jump with offering to help install and test so we could compare the TJM and ARB compressors.
We decided to install the TJM compressor behind the rear seat in Damo's 2017 PX II Ford Ranger Wildtrack as this was the easiest place to get to.
The Wiring harness has a lot going on but is relativity simple if you can read electrical diagrams. We initially tried to tap in to the factory power outlet in the tray but this was an epic fail as the compressor draws too much power and blew the fuse in around a minute when testing.
We eventually ran its own separate gauge line to the battery and installed the switch in the glove box as we ran all the wiring down the passenger side in the most direct line.
Testing this time was a success with all 4 tyres aired from 15- 40 psi with no issues. TJM Vs ARB, So who won? you'll have to watch the video

I’ve had a TJM compressor for 13 years and no complaints so far. The thing looks rough as from being bounced around in the back of the car but still as reliable as ever.

Thanks for the Video guys, I just went looking for an onboard compressor today and the TJM does look very versatile and I was also thinking of mounting behind the back seat of my old Hilux. Great to see that the ARB and TJM models are comparable. My dilemma is solved, love ya work guys, I'll be subscribing to ya channel to check out the rest of your videos 👍👍👏👏

Pretty happy with ours. Just mounted one in engine bay after my ARB sh@t the bed. 4L rear tank. Did my 4 x 33's from 18 back to 44/46 in around 11 mins. Was happy. The unit feels solid, about double the weight of the ARB. No regrets here at all.

Just tried installing the tjm pump. Removed the bottom bracket and it stripped out the thread in 3 of the bolts in the pump body. Pathetic little hex screws really, not a bolt. Not a good start, I'll be going back to the arb pump I think.

Would have been interesting to see actual temp readings with some sort of infrared temp reader, as hi temps are the enemy of small portable compressors

That’s a fair point. they definitely both get pretty hot, it was comparable but hard to be 100% without a temp gun

Time wise the Tjm was faster. Over 4 tyres around a minute. I feel the arb is a better compressor bit they appear very similar.

Thanks fellas. I was interested in the smallest TJM compressor. I think it's really designed to just service the air lockers but Could it be used to pump tyres as well with a T-piece? Cheery pip, Z

You’d find it’d be too small. It’s only 26L per minute, I’d guess it’d over heat before you’d do 4 tyres.

I think i will do better time with my bicycle pump with my biceps to pump 35's .
