The Stills Young Tour didn't finish. Neil quit without a word in the middle of the tour. Stills was having substance abuse problems during this petiod, but Neil has never stated that had anything to do with why he quit the tour.

His first solo album and Manassas are two great Stephen Stills albums. Jimi Hendrix has a solo on the first album.

You need to hear the Manassas album from 1972. It's Stills'' best work imo. Stephen's first solo album is very good too.

Great review! Stills' 2 best solo albums (IMHO) are both self titled, 'Stephen Stills' his debut from 1970, and his 1975 album called 'Stills' that has Crosby & Nash guesting extensively on a very melodic mid 70's batch of songs. CSN's 'Daylight Again' from 1982 is also superb, it has the hit Southern Cross on it.

Stephen stills 1 and 2 are great. i dig Thorougfare Gap and the great "I Cant Get no Booty" with the hot slide guitar! Change Partners is one of the best Stills songs with its 3/4 verses and 4/4 chorus

Many songs from the scrapped "Human Highway" sessions appear on Neil Young's "Archives Vol. II" box set.

I forgot to mention about the first Stephen Stills solo album that it was the only album ever to feature both Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton. By the way, Ringo Starr appears on that album too.

A very good Stephen Stills solo album to check out would be his first solo album called Stephen Stills.

1 thing that's interesting is CS&N had only 2 LP's before getting back together in 1977. Young of course joined them for Deja VU. Was their any bad blood between them? Maybe that explains the 7 year Hiatus and maybe still had anger with each other at the time.

Interesting review TJR...I am inclined to listen to this album now. My only 'knowledge' of it was, simply, that it was a Stills-Young project, and had no connection to CSNY. Then again, there was a lot of 'cross pollination' that was always going on with those guys, no? I mean, didn't Neil's 'Zuma' feature Crosby and Nash on backing vocals on a few tracks? That being said, the only tune I am familiar with was the title song, as it closed Neil's landmark collection 'Decade', an album I virtually wore the grooves out on way back when. It seems that Neil had a lot of tunes during this time bearing the same hallmarks of the title track: the warm hearted sentiments, the relaxed guitar groove, the country-western arrangement...after the 'dark turn' of his '73-'74 recordings, he seemed to gravitate back towards that. His fans didn't really discover that until 'Comes a Time' came out in '78--we had to deal with the dour, dark turn of 'On the Beach' and 'Tonight's the Night' first. Btw, have you considered doing a 'weekend spin' on 'Time Fades Away', Neil's blistering 1973 live album that was long out of print? I'd like to hear the recently released "Live at the Rainbow" in contrast to it....I just cannot keep up with the huge amount of archival material Neil has put out in recent years.

I think Time Fades Away is an under appreciated Masterpiece.....So thanks for the suggestion. Adding it to my list of possible future episodes.

Bought this as a 16 year old expecting a great return to the Springfield days which I missed. Well it was anything but. The cover is great though!

*** THE INFORMATION IN MY RESPONSE BELOW IS INCORRECT BUT I WILL LEAVE IT AS WRITTEN, PLEASE SEE THE ATTACHED CORRESPONDANCE BELOW. Good Afternoon, It just goes to show you that just because someone is involved in an interview and is involved in a project does not mean that what he/she is declaring is correct. Joe Vitale says that none of the vocals (Crosby and Nash's) was erased, but we learn is, THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT NEIL YOUNG DID. Lesson to learn here is,.... if at all possible TRY TO VERIFY ANYTHING SAID IN AN INTERVIEW. Do have a good rest of the day.

So if Neil Young did delete the vocals how do you explain the released version off the Neil Young Archives series that feature back up vocals from the other members of CSNY ? Not to mention the version of Black Coral released on Carry On?

@@TJRtheOriginal Hello TJR, It seems that I took the word erased to be "completely deleted from existence" which is not the case here. The vocals (Crosby's and Nash's) never made it to the albums master track, but the vocals still exist. Thank you for the VERY IMPORTANT CORRECTION and do have a good day.

One classic Neil Young, one good Neil song, a lot of mediocrity and some decent guitar work by both.
