Eddie Murphy was the ONLY person to help out Redd Foxx when he lost everything due to not paying his taxes. He put him in Harlem Nights and even wrote a T.V. series for him (The Royal Family). Aries is coming off like "Because he didn't help ME out; he isn't doing enough for his people!"

He stopped the filming of Boomerang until they agreed to let John Witherspoon have a scene. He also had a lot of comedians in Life. Bernie, Guy, Anthony, etc. In almost, or maybe even all, of his movies he’s had less known actors/comedians with leading or co-staring roles.

My comment was a response to the argument the Eddie, as one man, should have launched a whole bunch of black comedians' careers (which is a ridiculous thing to ask of just one black comedian in the 80s, who was still trying to solidify his own career). But to the Aries point you're referring to, the comedians Eddie's used weren't exactly known to a lot of people at the time he first he them neither (Except for maybe Chappelle, having been in a couple of movies by the time he did 'The Nutty Professor', but that was before 'Half Baked', so even then, unless you followed his comedy, he was just "that guy from that thing" famous"). And Eddie also consistently featured comics, with the exception of I'd say maybe 4 or 5 out of his entire filmography. Side note: Nicholas Turturro is/was a comedian???

I know you didn’t say Martin Lawrence was put on by Eddie. 😂 Life came out in 1999. The Martin show was from 92-97. The first Bad Boys movie was in 95. A Thin Line Between Love & Hate was in 96. Martin’s first stand up You So Crazy was in 94. His movie with Tim Robbins Nothing To Lose was in 97. In other words Martin was already on way before Life. If anybody put Martin on it’s Spike Lee with Do The Right Thing in 1989 and Kid & Play with House Party in 1990.

I hate the “put me on” mentality. I feel like it’s mostly just a thing with black people too, maybe because most of us are raised in environments with nothing. But the entitlement to expect other people to reach back down and pull you up with them is pretty much just setting you up for failure. I think it’s dope when people get on and do that but it’s not an obligation. It’s worse in Aries’ case because no black man in the comedy world has provided more opportunities for black actors/comedians than Eddie Murphy. Many of his movies are with predominantly black casts. He could’ve went the other way and became a big star in movies with all white people where the only blacks were either slave or criminals but he didn’t. First time we saw Cuba Gooding Jr in a movie was Coming To America, he gave Damon Wayans and Chris Rock small roles in Beverly Hills Cop 1 and 2, Dave Chappelle was an unknown comic in Nutty Professor, he forced the director in Boomerang to put John Whitherspoon in and let him improvise his scene, and he’s worked with the younger comedians.
