Just a quick suggestion, your microwave box needs to be removed at this point in construction. Just leave a long loop wire and label it. When you get ready to install cabinets, just cut a hole in the Sheetrock and reach in grab the wire. Buy a remodel box with wings and cut a hole in the back of the cabinet for this. Now your faceplate will be perfect for attaching to the box.
@AKJammer13 жыл бұрын
Right, because the front is only to the face of the sheetrock now, you'll have another 1/2 to the cabinet. You can also use those adjustable boxes that you can screw in/out. But the one you put up won't work.

Don’t forget a box on outside for an entry point of cable, tele, sat, fiber or any aux utilities you may have…since you are on a slab and no crawl space to come up through floor…additionally I would suggest a conduit chase into boxes where tv mount is and cabinet level below so if you have any DVD players etc….run behind sheet rock so wires will not be exposed…surround sound and sub woofer? Place boxes in walls for speakers now will save in long run…ring doorbells, security and video cameras, etc….block, box, and wire now…you will be glad in future…great job!!

Just a suggestion, run a 14-3 or 12-3 to all fan/light boxes so you can have a switchable means if ever needed it’s there. Same for switch boxes, add a switch space just in case needed. Also have a switch and wire run for outside pole light/lights in yard. For future of course. Another suggestion, have a switch receptacle under windows for Xmas lights plugged in so you don’t have to go around and unplug them all. Run a 14-3 circuit individually, so top receptacle can be switched to all windows and back to a timer/switch, for that purpose. Just an idea. Love the design.

if I may suggest; do your rough plumbing and any HVAC work before running electrical wiring. You will find that those are pretty finicky as far as where and how they have to be installed. Cables are much easier to put wherever. Plus it’s a clock and wallet killer to have a “do-over” on your romex.

The lumber prices dropping is awesome. I’ve been putting off building a shed forever because I didn’t want to spend a bazillion dollars on it. Lol It’s cool to see that ceiling fan box. I just went to old hardware stores and found metal ones because I hate the plastic ones, the plastic is too soft and if you have vibration on their overtime the screws are just gonna work themselves out. I have any duty box for a ceiling fan is a must. I’ve even taken the straps he is to join two boards I just made sure screw got through that so I can put a couple screws into the frame so even if it did fall it would only fall a couple inches butIt’s cool to see they have heavy duty boxes, it’s getting really hard to find the old metal ones anymore. No GFI on the fridge! But a suggestion that I've been doing for a few years now. As you know, you have to install AFCI breakers on all your 15 & 20A - 120V circuits. In some locations, on those same circuits, GFCI protection will also be required. Instead of installing $20 GFCI receptacles, for a few dollars more than the AFCI beaker itself, you can get AFCI/GFCI combination breakers to protect the entire circuit from the panel to the last device.
@TKCL3 жыл бұрын
I asked my inspector about that and he acted like I needed individual gfi outlets in the bathroom and kitchen. I'd love to be able to avoid that
@ChrisJohnson-ld2de3 жыл бұрын
@@TKCL Nope. The receptacles in those areas, as well as a few other areas, just have to be GFCI protected, they dont have to be actual GFCI receptacles.

Ceiling boxes for lights should always be fan rated, your inspector if he is not on your buddy buddy list will catch you on that. Even if you dont plan to hang a fan from them, if you can hang a fan from it, it has to be a fan rated box. I really recommend metal ones. AFCI and GFCI breakers are a convenient option for those hidden outlets such as behind a refrigerator. I dont know what kind of panel you want to use, but make sure you get a Plug On Neutral panel to make your wiring in the panel much cleaner. Eaton is generally the lowest cost in the area, I'm partial to Square D, but when cost is king I'd go with Eaton BR PON. The AFCI breakers (which you will need) are usually the cheaper option, and the AFCI/GFCI dual function breakers are probably the least cost out of the brands. Eaton and Square D are usually the brands at Lowes and Home Depot. I don't know where you are, but Look into Anixter in Tampa, CED, City Electric Supply, Rexel for romex in 1000 foot spools, or any of your electrical supplies. They might even have them in bigger spools. Usually their prices aren't the same as the box stores, sometimes the box stores are cheaper on wire. For your fan boxes, run 14/3 (or 12/3 if you're using 20 amp breakers) for the leg from the switch box to the fan box. You'll be happy to have the extra wire if you want to control the light separate from the wall instead of a remote or a pull string. Also box fill is a headache. try to consider that too many wires in a box might require a deeper/more volume box.
@TKCL3 жыл бұрын

I do not think you need a GFCI outlet behind the refrigerator as it is not readily accessible. If you want to use GFCI for peace of mind, remember you have three (or was it 4 ) regular outlets connected to the first GFCI to give out the protection. Same goes for the kitchen outlets, only the first one needs to be GFCI. 2 way / 3 way / 4 way lighting - save your self the time money and materials. Run the power to the out let near the door and use a Lutron Caseta dimmer or switch. Then you can pair it with as many Pico’s as you like. You can then set one pico to turn on just the light our all the lights in the room. Cat6a is more than enough for what you are doing. Remember to run 2 or 3 to every TV location and a couple to where the Computer will be. Also make sure if the printer of scanner is in a different location to run network cable to it. For WiFi in the house, pull 1 cable to each closet ceiling. You will have the option of adding WiFi access points as needed. I would fun a couple to each side of the house to add out door WiFi as well as Cell phone signal booster.

Finish the plumbing top out first . Then Air-condition . Then Electric = wiring can be run around many Obstacles Return air Registers Smoke detectors Fart fans. 🤭 The Refrigerator plug How about putting a Combination Breaker in the panel . To get the plug off your Kitchen counter Backsplash Then you put a regular plug in behind the refrigerator.

Quick question, when you are measuring stuff are taking into account the width and thickness of flooring or your drywall etc? For example is that island box centered after you add the thickness of your sheetrock?
@TKCL3 жыл бұрын
Yes I am, but I don't get too caught up over some things. For example our vinyl plank flooring is less than 3/8ths of an inch. I have been measuring for 1/2 drywall thickness

If you plan on using those puck leds they don't require a electrical box

The style I am getting does require a box for mounting. I prefer the box so I can have location and wire laid out perfectly now, with no surprises later

Hey Andrew are you going to insulate inner walls or sound proof them...with the metal roof it might deaden the noise a bit ...especially if your doing laminate hard wood floors or any type of hard wood...just a thought I like rain to hitting a metal roof...puts me to sleep.. not sure with all the rain you get if its necessary..just a thought I was stationed at Whiting Field in the mid 90's in Milton totally enjoy your channel
@TKCL3 жыл бұрын
I might do the bedroom, but that's it. The entire ceiling is getting spray foamed and that should help with noise.

It'd be a very wise decision to run a the fridge off a standard outlet. Heard too many bad stories of folks losing a freezer full of food, while gone on vacation because the GFCI outlet tripped for no reason. The lighting was actually just fine in this video. Stop worrying so much... :-) Recommend you keep your phone in your pocket when you raise the scissor lift WAY high... so you can call a neighbor or Tiffany to come let you down if the upper basket controls stopped working for some weird reason.
@TKCL3 жыл бұрын
Code requires refrigerator and freezer to be on independent circuits.
@markb.12593 жыл бұрын
I was referring to the freezer side of your home refrigerator freezer. Although, the concept applies to both. GFCI is a risky place to plug in any fridge/freezer.

I agree, that's why I said I'll change it after the inspection. The inspector told me all kitchen outlets have to be gfci

With all those electric boxes, what happens when power goes out? Are you buying a whole house generator?

Already own a decent size generator that will run everything except central AC

Keeping it very basic, we just are no longer into that stuff. Simple runs of cat6 to certain areas. Everything else is perfectly fine being wireless. I seriously doubt we ever add anything high tech. We are simple people and spend our time outside.
