Those people that do say he's local or can't speak too much English I dey laugh una lol most of you guy's are not up to his standard or even come close to him in speaking English,you guy's thought he's an illiterate nope that man studied (mass communication) he murdered anything both his indigenous language and English language.. y'all see what he's trying to do that man is trying to promote his indigenous language (YORUBA) now look at it today almost everyone speaks that language both in Nigeria and Overseas I laugh most times when I see or watch oyinbo people trying to speak that language even if they can't they always try their best to speak,believe it or not this guy has given that language recognition all over the world through his songs and still putting more effort to do more..seriously that man called olamide he's a great guy kudos to him respect🙌🤴❤

@Samuelolamilekan-pr9wu10 ай бұрын
All what he's trying to say is that,the reason why he use more of the indigenous language (YORUBA) in his songs is just to promote the language,make it known to everyone/world and also the generation coming after him it will be easier for them to sing with the language coz he's already trying to give the language a recognition.furthermore he said it's better for him to promote his language than promoting language that's not for him(ENGLISH)....

While I acknowledge and appreciate the fact that he makes attempt to promote our indigenous Yoruba language in his songs, he still has a long way to go in speaking flawlessly in that same language. How can you say you are promoting your language when you cannot even make a very short sentence in Yoruba without the infiltration of the English language. Ours is generation that is gradually losing our identity. We can not even claim to be adept at speaking the English language. So wherein lies our identity? Note that, your truly is not exempted from this confused state of true acceptance of our indigenous identity.

Colonization
@BTheTrue9 жыл бұрын
+Ayo Imohi language evolves. colonization has nothing to do with it. look at English today, with imported French words as well as the LOL, OMG, WTH generation-speak. all languages are subject to change and word-borrowing. Also growing up in an urban setting influences your fluency. most township/ rural dwellers are fluent speakers of their native language. Colonization is not some catch-all that is to blame for everything.
@joshuaiwe47019 жыл бұрын
+BB McKinlay well it does have something to do with it because remove colonization and people wouldn't speak English along with their language and it wouldn't have to be mixed the way it is. This is not the Same way English has 'borrowed words' some peoples languages are really going extinct because of English
@AI-di7ll9 жыл бұрын
+BB McKinlay without colonial rule we wouldn't have such a large English influence on our language
@BTheTrue9 жыл бұрын
+Ayo Imohi and so says half the world. we are not unique in this. It happened. we've moved on. just teach your children your language if you can. if you can't, then let them at least watch some indigenous movies from time to time and listen to songs in your language as well. at least we have our country back and to ourselves. unlike black Americans who constantly struggle in a country where they are a minority and have so much baggage.

Forget he need to express himself in a language we all should understand, I am Ibo and I am proud.. but not when i want to express myself knowing fully well i have people from other tribe who support me, i should allow them to know what the interview is all about, i love him but honestly i don't know what his story/music is talking about because i don't understand him.. this is what happen to 9ice and today no body listens to 9ice no one can understand him and the line of his music.. some people like wizkid and davido are all yoruba and trust me they have more fans than him because they make people understand them. even if his speaking it, he should try and translate so we will understand what his saying please, to me this TIMIDE.... In Nigeria we dont have a common language so when you speak your tribe in public when people dont understand my nigga you are on your own..
@Infinitybein4 жыл бұрын
But he should speak oyinbo tribal language or english because...? Come on. Just as you can learn english you can take the time out to learn yoruba. 9ice paved the way for alot of artist today just as Fela before him.
