The Basque language (it's called Euskera) is a completely different language. It has nothing to do with Spanish, or with any other language. It's what it's called an "isolated language" = unrelated to any other existing language. It's the only isolated language that still exists in Europe. Super interesting but very difficult. About the Canary Islands: the birds may have originated there but they're not named like that because of the birds. The name comes from the word "can" which is another Spanish word to say "dog" apart from the most common "perro". Greetings from Catalunya! We put the pooping guy in the nativity scene in Christmas. Still weird, I know, but it's not normal decoration xD

I'm living in Madrid, but originally, I'm from Galicia. Galicia or Galiza (in Galician language) is one of the nationalities of Spain. Galicia has four provinces: A Coruña, Pontevedra, Ourense, and Lugo. Actually, the Galician and Portuguese languages are two varieties of the same language. We share the same lexicon and grammar, but Galician language uses a moderate number of archaic words not in use nowadays in Portugal or Brazil, and some Spanish (Castilian language) borrowed words. Portuguese and Galician varieties have the same origin, the Galaic-Portuguese language, a dialect from vulgar Latin that appeared around the 8th century. Galicia and northern Portugal were also part of the same kingdoms, from the Roman Empire, the Suebi Kingdom, the Visigoth Kingdom, and the Kingdom of Leon. Later on, in 1139, the Count of Portucale (northern Portugal) declared their independence from the Kingdom of Leon and created the Kingdom of Portugal, and he was crowned King. That is why our languages got their little differences with the centuries. I hope you find this information interesting. Thank you!

The terraces were formed somewhere in the 11th century and the masia next to me has a small cave that where they found traces of Neolithic use. In my masia i found munition from the civil war. Not far from it there is an olive tree that is about 1150 years old and in Bovera (population about 200) has 2 mases ( houses in a homestead) that were used as military hospitals during the civil war. So culture and history is everywhere in Spain

Euskara, or Basque, it's an isolated language, this means it doesn't have relative languages in Europe. In fact is the older language in Europe and puts "its grains of sand" in the evolution from common Latin to Castilian (Spanish). The most common surname in Spain is García, that comes from the Basque Gartzea/Gaztea (young). You can find a lot of Basque roots in names and surnames: Xabier, Aguirre, Etxebarria (Echevarria), EcheXXX, MendiXXX, XXXlanda, etc. Simon Bolívar, freedom fighter for South America was Basque, as well as Miguel de Unamuno (Writer and philosopher), J.S. Elcano (first sailor to round the World), Ignazio de Loyola (founder of the Jesuits), Cristóbal Balenziaga and Francisco Rabaneda AKA Paco Rabanne (two of the greatest Fashion Designers), Edurne Pasaban (1st woman in acomplise the 14 8-thousanders in the world), John Rahm & José María Olazabal (golfers), Maurice Ravel (musician from French-Basque Lapurdi), Chillida & Oteiza (sculpters). And a special mention to all the great cooks in this land, with or without the Michelin Stars: Arzak, Berasategui, Aduriz, Atxa, Subijana, Canales... This small Basque Country have 24 Michelin Starred Restaurants, the major density on the world right after Tokyo. PS: it's not only a richer area for the tax system but because of the industry, the business nod and a lower level of political corruption. Worker's rights are stronger for the daily fight.

@@georgezee5173 LOL for your comment, the usual in the bars and in the right wing press... Who estimated that? Vox? The (far-right)Economist "diary"? On the other hand, you are mixing and confusing concepts. Grab the dictionary and search for “corruption”. Maybe you need to study a bit of history and economics first. That is, in general. The Basque Country is equivalent to 6% of the national GDP; not bad for 4.5% of the total Spanish population. When you make a financial statement, do not count only the income. Add to the equation what you spend, what you save, what you don't ask for, and what you give.... Keep learning, kiddo: - 50% of the corruption cases come out of Andalusia, Valencia and Galicia. - They are closely followed by Castile and Leon, Catalonia and Madrid. - Madrid doubles the number of corruption cases in the Basque Country by far; even adding Navarra and La Rioja, Madrid is still more corrupt. - Excluding the autonomous cities, the Basque Country is third region in corruption... starting from the bottom!

5:33 There are a few theories about the origins of the Basque language "Euskera". One is that it is related to Georgian - in east Europe, in the Caucasus region, since Georgian is also a language isolate. But, Basque is really the only language in western Europe that has nothing to do with other languages. Off course throughout the years it has incorporated some words from Spanish and other languages, but words like "taxi", or "computer/ordinator" that are basically international. It's indeed a fascinating language. Basque is not related to Welsh, because Welsh is a Celtic language, thus indo-european, but Basque is Pre-indo-european. Another curious fact about Basque/Euskera, is that is an aglotinative language, like for example Hungarian. But personally, I find Basque easier to learn, it is very systematic, very logic, although initially confusing, because we, in the west, are not used to these structures of language. But indeed very very interesting. And also, the accent is easier, is more direct... you know how to pronounce the alphabet easily.

I'm from Galicia ! :-) You have to check my "autonomy" more close hahaha like Islas Cies , Isla de San Simón, Bayona, Tui, Coruña, Playa de las Catedrales ( Lugo ) and so on... you will be surprised. We are the forgotten side of Spain so we remain sauvage comparing to Mediterranean cities. Here is very rural, is like travelling trough time going to the past. And YES we do have the best Octopus hahaha, the best place to taste it is in Ribadavia ( Ourense ) .

@@richiemalone1045 :-) totally Richie, Galicia is very small comparing to other places but it has too many things to see. The places you are mentioning are very turistic like Santiago de Compostela. You have other places not well knowing like Isla de San Simon, Isla de Ons, Manzaneda, Redondela,... thanks for visiting us !!!

I'm from Guadalajara, the original, which is in the region of Castilla - La Mancha, region whith an absurd name form by the name Castille, land of castles and La Mancha, another region that describes a very flat land. La Mancha covers the provinces (administrative units) of Toledo, Cuenca, Ciudad Real and Albacete), but not Guadalajara, which is only castillian and part of another geographical region called La Alcarria. So, the people in Castilla-La Mancha are callled castellano-manchegos o castellanomanchegos and from Guadalajara we are always complaining everywhere about we are not manchegos, not from La Mancha, because it's something they confuse even in our own country.

The Guanches in Canary Island, were in origin bereber people, VI century BC, and later from Roman inhabitants from Mauritania, the roman province, not the actual country (Yeap, Roman empire knew the existence of this island, that they call Fortunatae Insulae -> lucky island)

No digan mentiras.

Basque is an indoeuropean language but nobody knows where it came from. It also has nothing to do with languages emerged from Latin.
@devaneandoful2 ай бұрын
It is not an Indoeuropean language, it is different from any surviving language, it may have a relation with the disappeared Ibero but the Ibero could not be translated through the Basque although there are common words, therefore it is something that is under discussion, it has no known relatives.

5:37 Basque live in their place for 40 000 years and their only relatives are Canarian peoples. Japhetine people (like e.g. modern Europeans) arrived to Europe after Ice Age ended between 5800BC and 4000BC.
@devaneandoful2 ай бұрын

12:40 The Segovia aqueduct is from Segovia, not Madrid, wtf 😂 Im from Madrid, but i also have ancestors from Toledo, Valladolid, Asturias and Galicia and probably from Catalonia because of my last name, specifically from the Aragonese nobility (Borrell). I like genealogy but I haven't been able to go beyond my great-great-grandparents, I don't even know if that's possible

Greetings from an Aragonese. Each community people has a particular fame, and you will hear that people from Aragón are really stubborn, that's why the joke about the Mini Cooper, if we say it fits, we don't stop until it fits.I was born in a place in Aragón touching Catalonia what we call La Franja (The Borderland) here we speak catalan language mixed with old aragonese language (called Fabla), a strange catalan

MANY ERRORS Those who explain the history of Spain make many mistakes. Castilian and Spanish are exactly the same. It was called Spanish because of the Spanish colonies. Spain was born in the 18th and 19th centuries. Its flag and its parliament are from the XVIII century, its first president and its first constitution are from the XIX century, using the seal of Castile until the XX century. Aragon, Catalonia, Valencia, Majorca and the Pitiusas islands (Formentera and Ibiza) formed an independent alliance, until Castile invaded them. That's where the independence problems came from. Catalonia was betrayed by France with the "Treaty of the Pyrenees 1659" where France would keep all of northern Catalonia, and form an alliance with Castile to invade Valencia. Catalonia would also be betrayed by England with the "Pact of Utrecht 1713", where England would take Menorca and Gibraltar, and Castile would invade Barcelona and Mallorca. There are many errors, all drawn from Spanish nationalism.
