Loki's line was left "blank" because they couldn't come up something that did justice for a final line. Tom took a walk thinking about what could be the line and remembered his last line from Thor 1 and immediately ran back to tell others about it. They loved it and made it last line in his Arc.

The ‘old lady’ in When Harry Met Sally was director Rob Reiner’s mother... Dr. Leonard H. McCoy in the Star Trek franchise was called "Bones" in reference to surgeons being referred to as ‘sawbones’ for obvious reasons. The term was first coined by Charles Dickens in his book The Pickwick Papers and has been a idiom ever since...
@asmodiusjones956310 ай бұрын
Yeah, I believe Urban ad-libbed it but they should have cut it. In TOS they called McCoy Bones for the reason you state, and it added to the show’s authenticity. In the 2009 movie it felt like taking down to the audience (the audience will never accept obscure naval traditions, they need a simple, quick explanation!).
@archibaldevans225110 ай бұрын
People by nature are easily swayed and generally keep themselves in the shallow mis and uninformed end of the pool to wit entertainment panders handsomely. I’m not a big fan of fiction preferring real fact and genuine history over fantasy. Storytellers like to embellish putting their own ‘spin’ on the tale under the guise of ‘artistic-license’ which in earnest nothing more than self-granted permission to be deceitful...
@robneff70846 ай бұрын
Rob Reiner did an interview where he talked about how much work he did on the movie, while his mom is basically a background character who says 5 words, yet she ended up having the iconic line that everyone remembers. "A sawbones is an archaic term that refers to a surgeon or doctor, particularly one who practices during a time when surgical interventions were often crude and carried out with basic tools, including saws." I hadn't heard that term before, interesting to know. Rather ironic to give that name to McCoy's character, who did everything essentially non-invasively, and was appalled at 20th century medicine in ST2. I personally prefer the modern explanation of his nickname.

Eli Wallach improvised Tuco's line "When you have to shoot, shoot, don't talk!" in The Good, The Bad and The Ugly (1966). Rutger Hauer's entire 'Tears In Rain' monologue in "Blade Runner" (1982) is perhaps the most iconic change to the original script that ever made it into a classic movie. I'm surprised you missed that.

Harrison's add lib lines were perfect. In the scene, he's a bit rattled, they are fighting for their lives. It comes thru when he's on the intercom, sounding like he's rattled, because he's really unsure & ad libbing. They really ought to do this more in movies, rather than every line being delivered flawlessly. None of us talk like that in realy life.

With all due respect to Robert, his statement validates Jeff Beck playing the drums on Superstition. - If “The first words Stevie said were, ‘Let’s make a funky bass sound; the drums are done.’” Then they were done. - including if Beck laid down a secondary track. I can see how Robert, if he just heard the playback could easily assume Stevie had laid it down. 2.Speeding up and slowing down - Beck is not Bernard Purdie - one of the greatest drummers. If Bernard couldn’t get it, it seems more likely Beck was consistently inconsistent. 3. Stevie gave Superstition to Jeff Beck to release first. Jeff didn’t get around to it for various reasons, so Stevie released it first.

And that improvised line by Karl Urban in Star Trek is one of the dumbest lines ever filmed. I never knew it was improvised, so it seems like a very forced way to explain how McCoy got the nickname of “Bones.” It’s stupid because he, like thousands of surgeons, were known as “sawbones” due to their primary occupation during early wars. Just like psychiatrists are called “head shrinkers.” Psychiatrists get it shortened to “shrinks,” while McCoy’s was shortened to “Bones.”
@robneff70846 ай бұрын
I'm a fairly informed person, I've heard of shrinks and gumshoes and G-men and such, but I've never ever heard of sawbones. So you could either have a one-line explanation of how he got the nickname Bones, or you could have a 5 minute monologue describing 19th century surgery...
@tweetdriver6 ай бұрын
@@robneff7084They never had to explain the nickname in the original series. Your ignorance of “sawbones” doesn’t really mean they needed to make up some stupid shit to explain it now. Or, he could have made a comment during his diatribe about being, "just an old sawbones." That would have worked too, and also answered the question of why he had that nickname all along, for anybody else who didn't know.
