They basically kicked the kids out as soon as they start working to teach them how to adult but then expect them to still follow the household rules. Like when they basically told Liz she couldn't have her boyfriend stay the night when she moved out. I like this family but you can't have it both ways. Once they are adults and out of your home you just got to let them make their own decisions and their own mistakes. That's how you become an adult not just by paying your own rent.

They made him go and find a job and live by himself and now they want to know how every move ? Hell No !!! I had midnight curfew up until the day I married at 23 and my parents still tried to control my life which, most times they did. I was the oldest and the one that got all the rules. My younger siblings had no strict rules and yes, in the end I rebelled.

My mom allows me a lot of space and the freedom to make my own choices, but there are also certain expectations. One, keep in touch: Don't ignore them for weeks on end or never show up at family gatherings. Two, it's okay to ask for help: If I ever was in trouble, they wanted me to call them. Jonah is absent, he hardly talks to his parents when he is away. He calls them up after weeks of hardly any communication, begging for help and it turned out he was extremely high. If that was me, my mom would be terrified too. She'd want us to talk about it. They didn't apprehend him, they just told him how that experience made them feel. Now, he shows up late to her birthday dinner. Wth. Whether you are an adult or not, your actions have consequences. Being an adult doesn't give you a free pass to treat your family like shit. That's what Jonah was doing. His parents have every right to be upset.

I don't agree with them tracking their adult son's every movement. However, they're allowed to be upset about their brother/son doing drugs, even if it isn't hardcore, because it can be a sign of someone acting out. Also, when someone calls you when they're under the influence in a state of panic it could be scary. And marijuana (and other light drugs) can actually be gateway drugs to the wrong person. I don't think they know how to handle the situation though. Their passive-aggressiveness and isolation towards him could actually do him worse.

Ohhh no, he should not be sharing his location unless he wants to. I think when your kids reach out to you for help, let it be just that. Don’t use that moment against them by suddenly treating your adult child like they’re 8. They are all doing this. As many said, they were so quick to get the older kids out into the world. But they are still looking to fully control their move. If your children live outside the house and are paying their own way the life, don’t treat them like a child. Let them make adult choices and provide guidance from a FAR. Let them make their own mistakes.
