You do need a separate license for helicopters. And they do glide with the engine loss.

Weird. Craig is a pilot, but he actually got it quite opposite between planes and helis. Of course light planes, like your basic small Cesnas have enough glide that you can land without the engine running, but it still needs an improvised runway. If you are in a heavier plane or especially one with a jet engine, you are basically fucked. Helis on the other hand can just autorotate down without any power and don't need a runway.
