I think for the early 2000s Antoine Walker is very underrated and disrespected these days, much more so than T-Mac. The guy could do it all at his position for a few years, ballhandling, post play, outside shooting, leadership, showmanship, in particular that 2002 regular season he was just so damn clutch, I think he had 4 or 5 game winning shots that season alone. I really miss the live-by-the-3-die-by-the-3 Celtics back when nobody else played that way. Paul Pierce, I love, but he gets so much respect in Boston while Antoine Walker does not. I think the critics (and Danny Ainge) ruined Antoine's career.

No one was on MJ's level... But from 01-04 Tmac was that guy. Man Kobe wasn't Kobe until 06-08. Kobe was great but he took it to a next level being in a league of his own from 06-08 (after which they gave Kobe some help and he changed his game to trust his teammates more from 08 to 2010.) I mean 63 in 3 quarters... 81 in a game during the 05-06 season? That was insane and that is when Kobe took it up a notch. But from 01-04 I'll say Tmac was slightly better.

I never liked him but you had to give him his props. I loved watching him play. I never wanted Kobe to average less than 30 a game. Haha but I wasn’t a fan. My screen saver was him dunking on Nash. Haha I do wish they told him he was in a different situation than MJ. If he would accepted his role playing 2nd to Shaq until Shaq got old, Kobe would of won 10 rings. As great as Wade was, after 06 Kobe was a freak.

I got into watching basketball cause of Kobe, became a fan of his in the late 90s. As much as I am a huge fan of Kobe, I gotta give respect to T-Mac and other players. There was a point in time where Kobe was the clear cut best player in the league, but players like T-Mac, Vince, and D-Wade were right there with him. Kobe was better than those guys, but they were RIGHT there, so close when you compare a 1-year peak of best performances. Sucks that injuries happen, even Kobe dealt with them later in his career too.

I watched Michael, Kobe and tmac. They are my 3 favorite players along with Allen Iverson. Sure Michael and Kobe had better careers than Tmac. Now as far as talent Tmac was on that level and in some respects I will say his peak surpassed Kobe (it seems) from a skill set point of view. Tmac did not have the durability on his side (injuries cut his prime short), perhaps not as obsessed as Kobe and Michael but he also never had the luxury of having a teacher like Phil Jackson to help him grow. Tmac was Durant but way more athletic and more fundamentally sound and offensively deadlier, his post up game was way better than durant's. As far as total package as an individual player, tmac is one of the greatest talents the NBA has ever seen...and I been a Kobe fan since he entered the league but Tmac made me a fan as well of his game in his Orlando days. You simply can't deny talent and these guys are the Elite among the greatest to ever play the game.
@cryptoindeed59096 жыл бұрын
Igbo Tmac from the Orlando days was just as complete as Kobe offensively, trust me Durant is great and is a close call. But I give the edge to Tmac based on a complete game plus athleticism that Durant never had, tmac came straight from high school and peaked quite early but his body betrayed him.
@getitworkalot80966 жыл бұрын
Crypto Indeed naw he wasn’t a better offensive player than KD. KD is practically a morphed version of Tmac. Tmac was more athletic but KD can score just as much as Tmac but a bit more efficiently. I believe Tmac was 6’9. I personally felt he was better than Kobe in his prime. It’s unfortunate his body gave out. Off topic what if Jerry West did pull that trade to draft Tmac a year after Kobe? Oh my LA would of won 9 straight. Tmac probably would have been healthier too.
@getitworkalot80966 жыл бұрын
Axel Minani naw man you’re underestimating Tmac. Unfortunately he hit his ceiling before Kobe and peaked. Kobe eventually became better once Shaq left. I never saw anyone have years like his 06-08. Dude was killin Phoenix in the playoffs.
@cryptoindeed59096 жыл бұрын
Get It! Work A Lot! I'm fortunate to have watched these 2 guys. Today's NBA superstars don't quite have that same edge from back in the days. Everybody is too friendly with one another and social media has probably made it worse.
@getitworkalot80966 жыл бұрын
Crypto Indeed they do lack a certain edge. I agree. Social media can be to blame as well because we get too much info on these guys personal lives. But now I also think there exist two other factors. Money and fame. Guys are making 20 mil to be role players. They don’t care about the HOF& the few that are stars just care about fame. And the organizations enable it. Say what you want by LBJ and KD, but they only care about rings and being the best. LBJ could of average a triple double 10 years straight but he wanted to win. KD could average 40 ppg a season if he wanted to but he wants to win and just competing isn’t enough. Very few guys want to be great and win.

T-Mac was great, he truly did his best and became an hall of famer. That being said, T-Mac was nowhere near Kobe and MJ. First of all, T-Mac never competed on the highest level. From Orlando to Houston, he was always the sole scorer of his team, taking unlimited amount of shots, not doing much on the defensive end and handling the ball for as long as he wants. Being able to become an offensive juggernaut in a team that is winning championships than becoming one in a playoff first rounder team. T-Mac was more like today's James Harden. They're both mind blowingly flashy, ultra talented offensive players with no success in the playoffs. Now nobody says Harden is the best player in the NBA, he's not even considered top 5.

I'm going to say this, when Isiah Thomas was coaching Ron Artest in Indiana and Artest wasn't doing that stupid shit, when he defended, especially against T Mac, there was no better defender in the NBA. But because of his immature behavior, he possibly cost himself a DPOY Award in 2003 . Also, before he had a season ending knee injury in 2002 against Boston, Al Harrington was in position to win BOTH the NBA'S 6th Man and DPOY Award. I recall in back to back games, he shut down shooting guard Michael Jordan if Washington and power forward Karl Malone of Utah . After Harrington's injury, they traded Jalen Rose and Travis Best to get Artest and Ron Mercer from Chicago. In the three years Isiah Thomas coached Indiana, he made Brad Miller and Jermaine O'Neal All Stars, he had Al Harrington ready to become a star prior to that injury and he had bipolar Artest a total beast . The year after Thomas left Indiana, O'Neal was 3rd in the MVP voting and Rick Carlisle said Isiah Thomas did a great job developing the young talent he inherited in 2004.

Kobe didn't really isolate that title of "Greatest of his generation" until around the time of the rape trial when he started separating himself from Shaq. This was mostly due to the fact that he lost points playing alongside Shaq. Had you asked anyone at the time, they'd have admitted that had Kobe switched positions with either T-Mac or A.I. the Lakers would still have been just as good and dominant.

injuries are part of the game, survival of the fittest. tmac was on top for maybe 2 seasons, legends do it for an era not a few seasons. you could throw people like bernard king, grant hill and penny hardaway into the group of "could have beens". thats where tracy belongs.
