There is a wonderful story behind this song. It always touches my heart. I used to hum this melody all the time till the other day I learned it was a real song. I took that as a sign that I needed to know the meaning of this song. Changed the way I view life.

"Do you think that you could ever, Through all eternity, Find out the generation Where Gods began to be? "Or see the grand beginning, Where space did not extend? Or view the last creation, Where Gods and matter end?" These lyrics are a wonderful example of why Christians reject the LDS church as being Christian. The Bible is very clear that there is only one God, unchanging through eternity. Even the Book of Mormon makes that clear. But at the very end of his life, Joseph Smith started teaching that there are a multiplicity of Gods, and that God was once a human and that humans can become a god by obeying the the laws and ordinances of the Mormon "gospel." Nothing could be farther from the truth.

Am I the only one that thinks the "there is no end to race" part was more about there is no end so there would be no reason to race, race being the act of racing to a finish line?

I wish, but it rhymes with space. He should have used "grace". That would be much better. I doubt it was meant pejoratively, but it doesn't sound right these day.

Or as it felt to me just now...like gender us an eternal part of you, so race is an eternal part of you. A blessing endowed by virtue of who we are.

Or as it just felt to me now...as gender is an eternal part of us, so race is an eternal part if us. A blessing bestowed to us by virtue of all that is good.
