Resident of Galveston here, just in case you're interested. After a historically bad hurricane hit us in 1900 and basically destroyed the entire island, the residents that were left banded together and raised the entire island (including all of the standing buildings) by about 10 feet and built the Seawall to protect against future storms. The Flight Sim map didn't really pick up the wall, so that's what that road was: Seawall Boulevard on top of the wall, with a beach on the bottom. Laura blew east a bit, so the flooding didn't significantly break over the Seawall. Also, since I know you were wondering about the beaches... They're ok. The main problem with them is that we're close to the opening of the Mississippi River, so the water quality cycles between murky and clear. Anyways, thanks for your time if you read this whole thing ✌️

I was in the center of Laura when it hit; Westlake, Louisiana. Best way I can describe it is "Angry Wind". When the eyewall hit, I thought that was death. 100-ish mph gust, and the high-pitched whistling it made before slamming into the east side of my house was the most terrifying sound I've ever heard. Pushed the tree that was in my backyard onto the threshold of my back doors and crushed the roof, all the limbs from 2 of the trees in my front yard buried my patio/carport. If you're familiar with the shitty I-10 bridge between Westlake and Lake Charles, it pushed the huge riverboat casino INTO it. And LA DOTD still won't replace/condemn that deathtrap of a bridge. Somebody got a decent picture of it as soon as the Bio Lab/chemical plant blew up behind it. Lesson learned: when Mother Nature is winding up, get out of the way. And on a side note, when the weather cleared around 7am the next morning, there was more water inside the house than out in the street. Very strange.

For future reference, you should try messing around with the Nav display (the one in the middle) to see if there’s a weather feature. Sometimes will be written as WX. This would have displayed where the eye of the storm was if the simulator included it

Former Lake Charles Lousiana resident. So the storm surge wasnt as bad as they expected. Problem is they were geting 140something winds all the way 40 miles inland and this thing stayed a hurricane all the way into Arkansas. My family is all there, friends so forth. each day i find out of a new friend or relative who lost everything. The town was completely destroyed. Many people, me being in colorado dont really see how bad this was. Because the strom surge wasnt as bad people seem to be under the impression it wasnt that bad, this was the strongest storm to hit louisiana in over 150 years. Thanks for doing this video, please consider bringing some light to how bad this thing really was. No electricity or water for at least a month.

Remembered Katrina, I used to live in Houston we were supposed to get hit hard ended up having a mild storm, but my dad had a sick sense of humor and sent photos of me to our family in scuba gear with like 5 packs of gatorade in the bathtub saying "we're ready". Flight Simulator + GTA6 = Best Open World Game Ever. Seriously though, I did always want them to make a GTA that was actually the world. Yeah, not sure how they could make it all interesting but maybe with procedurally generated content.
