As a centre man, you are sort of a supportive role. You help on offence and defence, wherever help is needed. When you are on the breakout (your team is coming out of the defensive zone with the puck), you generally want to stay in the middle/be a passing option for your defensemen or your wingers. On defence, your defence men will protect the slot as well as work in the corners. As mentioned before, you are a supportive role. So you can help in the corners or the slot if your defencemen needs help. Typically, there will be an opposing forward that has the puck, another in front of the net that should be covered by your defence men and a third one (usually the opposing centre) that is the support role. Your job is to cover that third forward/the forward that isn’t covered. These are just the basics. Hockey is such a fast paced sport and the game and situations are always changing, so you as a player always has to adapt to the play.

The center is the third defense man he goes everywhere on the ice and there called posts and crossbars Edit: try not to poke check that much that’s how you get penalties and only change when your team has the puck in the other teams zone I also recommend using skill stick cause you can do more dekes and go to settings and look at the controls and practice You can tell you teammates to shoot while using rb on Xbox if you are on skill stick

As someone that also doesn’t really get into hockey as much but enjoys the NHL video games from time to time, it helped me as an offensive player to treat defending like a 3-2 zone, essentially you’re covering the central third of your part of the ice. Very rarely will the AI attempt to penetrate directly through the middle unless it’s a breakaway so by just shading to whichever side the puck is on it makes it easier to help your defenders and leak out for an early break once your team steals the puck back

Here’s some hockey knowledge. The side bars of the net are called the posts, the top bar is the cross bar. Which ever side you have the puck on would be the strong side post and the other would be the weak side.

Love seeing new people get hooked on nhl! So much fun this year. Trev the fight happened because you shot the puck after a whistle when you were offside. The opponent was protecting his goalie. As for the competition.....it's a little easy now....most teams at this level aren't very good. AHL and NHL things get tougher.

I think a lot of people would love to see this as a long series. Play in the nhl, try to win a cup. Could be fun. For once EA has worked on its offline mode. Wrist shot: right stick goes straight up (not down and up like a slap shot) Positioning: When on defense defend infront of the net. So try to take passes away and block shots. On offense you can skate it and make passes and try to get open, you don't necessary have to stay in one spot

Trevor typically a center follows the puck. If it’s in the defensive zone you should support the defensemen and help get the puck if it goes into the corner and use your wingers to break it out of the zone. When in the offensive zone, forchecking, typically it goes 1st guy into zone goes to puck, second guy supports the first guy or drives straight to the net or far post, and third guy sits high in the slot (middle between both face off circles).

Really great vid, loving this series already. When you play centre you can basically go anywhere on the ice that you want. Centre is also the second man to the puck. So if your player is tied up near the boards usually the centre goes and helps out. Definitely try out the training camp option in the practice/training section on the home menu, it will help out a ton especially for different faceoffs and skills.👍👌

So for your positioning on the ice as the center you go after the puck in the defensive zone and as a winger you cover the other teams defense. In the offensive zone go after the puck as well and if your other teammates are on the puck go to where you can score from like in front of the net for a screen/tip or in the open ice for a shot

You are the center that means that you are the main attacker and take all the faceoffs you can basically roam around the attacking side and also have to play defence the center is also the person who is the playmaker so you pass a lot and take shots if you have them

You bodycheck by holding the right stick in the direction of the person you want to check while skating into him, be carefull not to boost (L3) right before you hit him or you will get a charging penalty. Loving this series, keep it up! ;)

Hey Trev. At the 7:17 mark, you did a slap shot. There is a big wind up for a slap shot, and in that instance you want a quick shot because the goalie is beat. Don’t do a slap shot. Just push the right joystick forward to do a shot. Get that quick shot off.

Center plays all over the ice. Helps the wingers on both sides on offense and supports the defense by getting the extra man down low or the man in front. When you break out stay in the middle. Defensive positioning is more important youre an extra deffenseman

Trevor, the position your playing means you should be the first forward back in the defensive zone but you also contribute to the offense. In the offensive zone, it's the wingers jobs to chase the puck down low, you only go down low to support them otherwise centres usually stay in front of the net or are open for a shot.

pay attention to that target in the goal. If it's green it's almost guarantee a goal. use your left stick to aim your shot and then shoot with the right. focus on slap shots from distance and wrist shots when you're close.

One thing you could do as center is play behind the net. Gretzky made a killing off of scooping it in goal and passing to teammates. You can really cause havoc back there.

The center does go everywhere and when you break out of the zone on the breakout Make sure you are the strong side of the ice (the side of the winger that has the puck). It's called supporting the puck carrier. Long passes do work but the shorter passes are way more efficient and will open up more scoring opportunities . Try the wrist shots more because they have way more accuracy then the slap shots. Lastly in the o zone don't forget to cycle and use the D men they will open up a lot of scoring opportunities as well. Enjoy watching you play Chel though man. Enjoy the game.

I recommend going into training camp mode at the main menu if you actually attend on doing a full series of this because you definitely want to learn on how to do basic dekes like the windmill, toe drag, etc... then try them out in practice mode and go to the option where it says skater vs goalie and you can practice your dekes and shots there. Training camp will also teach you how to win face offs.

Check button is the right joystick when you dont have the puck. And you can tell your teammates to shoot it by hitting the right bumper when they have the puck. They'll shoot it, but it's usually a pretty bad shot.

A word of advice from someone who played hockey for 10 years... this is one of the most TEAM sports out there. You can't just 1 man jam that stuff. You have to do a lot of passing to offset the defense and also create an opening for a shot.
