I installed the XBMC media center on my Raspberry Pi and was surprised by audio coming from the laptop dock too. I didn't know it had built in speakers also.

Hi Tom, Thanks for the sub. I came to check out some of your videos and they seem very interesting, I'm surprised you aren't getting more viewers. Also, I got a Pi myself, but never had the time to take a look at it... Will probably get something going soon though.

with older Pi models, you can actually power the device using the USB Typw-A ports, so you could just to micro-USB B to USB A for power and data.

as much as I appreciate the fruit site , where the young lady demonstrates this to the best of her ability, I liked your video much better, because you actually held the camera steady, and paid attention to the video portion of the tutorial . It almost seemed that the young lady demonstrating this on the other vid, seemed to ruch willy nilly thru it and forgot that there was a video element to you tube to consider when filming ...I got more info from your tutorial.well done !

Hello! Please, did you publish another follow up video? How was the user experience with the Atrix lapdock with Raspberry Pi? Was it good? Any delays?

Did you get the sound to work over speakers in Raspian? It works for me under Openelec over HDMI and through the speakers, but nothing under Raspian seems to work ...

I see and can appreciate the effort that went into this but I'd much rather just use an Atrix for this lapdock. I mean the Atrix can be overclocked to about 1.5 Ghz, 1.7 if you got one of the good CPU's, it already has an Nvidia graphics processor and 1 GB ram. Compare that to the 900 mhz cpu and same ram of the raspeberry pi 2 and you can see a clear winner. Also, the Atrix goes for around $70 on amazon so it's a pretty good deal if you ask me. Plus you can flash different roms and versions of linux just like with the raspberry pi soooo yea. Plus there'll be no messy wires to deal with!

I was wondering why couldn't you put the red and black power wires from the usb cable to the others instead of cutting them since a usb does need power and wouldn't you then be able to use the provided usb ports on the computer dock?

Please HELP!!! First off I should say that I am doing this project with a Raspberry Pi 3. Second, the way I have it set up is. The Atrix has a micro HDMI to HDMI converter with regular HDMI cable leading to the Pi. A female to female micro USB converter in witch has the micro USB cable to USB cable plugged into the Pi for the keyboard and mouse. I also chose the no solder method. Witch means for my power cable to the pi I had to cut the red line on the inside of the power cable. (I see you didn't do this.) I saw in another video that it was the only reason it wasn't working. With the set up I just described, I could have all plugged in and the Pi won't turn on until I open the lapdock. The Pi boots fine, aside from the rainbow square of under powered death.(LOL) I really do not want to turn off the under power warning or the throttled system. I want my Pi to be at full power like yours is in this video. I have tried all the cables I own, and most don't even allow the pi to boot. (though Im not cutting the red line on the inside of all of these cables.) I have also tried using the Pi3's official power plug, but that doesn't allow it to boot on the Atrix lapdock screen ether. PS: Any and all ideas are welcome. Please help me. Thank you in advanced.

Nice video. Obviously a wireless mouse would be your best option. Btw, its not called a "Laptop Dock' its a 'Lapdock'. Had one, loved it, too bad it was extremely overpriced, and the software on the Atrix/Photon/Bionic was half baked.
