Oh man, I remember playing the OG AoE2 as a kid, and how all the civ themes lasted basically just a few seconds. So I absolutely love how for DE they not only just redid them all, but also extended them into actual songs. Like the Huns just had some ominous ambient sounds as their theme, but here it's an absolute bop instead, lol. Same for the Teutons.

It's kind of byzantine, but better. I think it's an orthodox christian chant, perhaps gregorian. These chants usually represented lament, loss, grief, sadness and submission to god, begging for His assistance. That is why it hits different; it's very well composed and very well executed too.

Commentaries on the new civs themes: Bohemians: Energic like a Hussite Wagon moving really fast. Kinda reminds me of a Hobbit village, for some reason. Bulgarians: Creating expectative with a song, before delivering the best part. I can resist start moving the shoulders at the second half of this theme. Burgundians: Sound like something from a JRPG. I can picture a scene were a princess/maiden is talking with the Hero. Cumans: Sonds like a theme from Conan the Barbarian series. Perfectly fitting. Lithuanians: My favorite theme from the new civs added in DE. Reminds me of Folk Rock, which is a popular genre of music in Lithuania. Poles: I expected more, to be honest... I know Polish people is deeply religious, but we already got the Byzantines with a church choir. Sicilians: They made a good job trying to replicate all the different cultural influences on Sicily. Tatars: I've expected something more on the Mongolian or Cuman style. Still, a great theme.

Quite tricky to pinpoint modern countries. Sweden for the Goths ? No longer by AOE2's timeline. The Byzantines, Franks and Berbers had something to say about their kingdoms in Western Europe. As surprising as it may be, I'd say Andorra would be the best pick for the Goths, being in the middle of the Visigothic kingdom and since both (southern) France, Italy and Spain hace an obvious choice.
