TMI Siren Activation: Dual Toned P-10

I woulda thought it was an ACA Allertor. I only live an hour or so away. Edit 4 years later, these are actually allertors with penetrator shrouds. It was an option from ACA. My friends and I made that discovery at the Schuylkill Fire Museum where one is stored.

I stuck around at the Cyclone in Etown to see if the new system would go off as well. I was told that News 8 confirmed that the new system would be tested but as far as I know that didn't happen. Oh well Limerick has the new system up and running and Peach Bottom will be putting the new ones up soon if they haven't already started so I'll hear one sometime. Nice video

One of the Thunderbolts here in Phoenixville is missing the projector horn. Blower and everything is still there, still hooked up. Just headless. And up until recently, they would test both systems, Thunderbolts at 2:00 and 128's at 2:30. But now I believe they only test the 128's at 2:00 on the first monday of every 6 months or something like that. But every other thunderbolt I have driven by is still intact.

Kind of hard to make (DC) battery backups for AC-powered sirens like a Thunderbolt. And I suspect that Exelon is standardizing on T-128s and T-135s to simplify logistics by having to only stock parts for one family of sirens that have lots of shared parts, rather than having to stock replacement parts for the whole mess of different models they have in the old system.

There isn't a need to replace the system. It is just a waste of their money. But its their money so they can do with it as they please. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the aca system and there is absolutely no need for battery backup sirens.

It literally IS an Allertor. It just has a penetrator shroud. Besides, they are literally the same thing, just different shrouds and prb a few other things. Both have the same chopper assembly tho which is why they sound the same

I thought the 128 would have gone off today. I called Dauphin County and they confirmed that they would be setting off the new system. I was surprised only the old aca system was activated.

I feel exactly the same feeling with Limerick's sirens! T-128s ARE BORING THEIR NOT EVEN LOUD! 128db they say, more like 99db to me! but what's done is done. now I have to live with it. I so wanna hear Three Mile Island's ACA siren system! >:(

Correction, they actually have been confirmed 128dB at 100 feet. I heard one, and it didn’t disappoint. It was just a bit quiter than a 508 tho, but still more than enough to get the job done. The reason why those sirens get replaced is bc they age and become extremely expensive and hard to maintain

@@SirensAndAlarmsOfNorthernIL Found that out much later compared to when I was a kid making this post plus all 3 plants in the general area have 1 uniform model now making parts easier to obtain... Even though nowadays they have to replace the whole head when something breaks cause modern junk and ASC's poor quality control. I never got to hear the system in the end unfortunetly. The T-128s may be loud and can get the job done sure but they don't pack a punch like the old systems did. Looking back I cannot help but laugh realizing Exelon wasted their money on this replacement job as TMI is already being decommisioned now making these new sirens useless unless they decide to keep them as severe weather sirens (Though PA only really gets tornadoes in Lancaster County and even then it's a less than 10% chance of one)

Actually, the one activated (P-10), is quieter. The P-10's decibel rating is about 125, while the new siren, (T-128), is 128 decibels. The T-128 also has battery backup.

Most likely because Excelon doesn't give a damn. I asked about Limerick's Thunderbolts if I could save the 1000 that used to be by my house and they said they wont sell them. That pissed me off, I know their old but the greedy basterds can get more money selling them to caring owners instead of scrap, Should of scrapped the 2001s they had in Harrisburg in my opinion. TMI is possibly going to be shut down too so they just wasted money on this unnecessary replacement job. Did I mention the 128s seem more unreliable than the older counterparts failing tests including their first one?

Sadly, it's apparently very hard, if not impossible, to legally sell *anything* that was part of a nuclear plant, due to NRC regs, so there's a very good chance that they'll end up being scrapped.
