Good tutorial but I suggest that once you make a dot on the plexi glass you use a drill bit just to make a hole that the hole cutter will slot into so it doesn't slide on the plexi and mark it. Unfortunately these aren't in the uk till the 20th of August 😔

Nice mod I just picked up the mk cabinet and am excited to mod it with a raspberry pi but I dont own a laptop so I thought about getting a pre loaded sd card... I see some people sell these pre loaded sd cards specifically for arcade 1up mods on etsy/ebay/ etc... etc.. I'm new to all this so I hope the overall mod goes well for me as it did for you and everyone else I see who has done this. Thanks for uploading this man good job.. I watch all the mod videos for educational/inspirational purposes... keep up the good work Liked and subscribed

Hey man, question, I noticed that you had the off/on and vol button wires going on the board somewhere. I know you're not using the vol button since you have the amp but what about the power switch? Are you utilizing it to work with the pi?
@arcadepickers1682

I actually don't use the power button or the volume button on the control deck as you mentioned the volume is controlled on the amplifier and what I did was plugged everything that has a power source into a power strip then I bought one of those remote control power on power off plugs from Walmart for about 8 bucks so I can just hit a button on the remote and turn everything off and on with the push of a button

Is the background music during the tutorial from Gunship ? Lol. But anyways, would I be able to make Leonardo and Raphael as P1 and P2 (respectively) to be modded for the more button layout ? I just think it would make more since because of the angle. You kinda have more space for hand movements on the edge of the control board.

Hey, I'm about ready to pull the trigger and buy some stuff to follow along with this video - question about drilling the plexiglass, do you think a Forstner drill bit might be the way to go instead of a holesaw? I know there are two different button sizes in the arcade kit so I need to get the right drill bits to match. I'm excited to do this but definitely worried about cracking the glass.
@arcadepickers1682
@arcadepickers1682 3 жыл бұрын
If it makes you feel any better I don't even use the plexiglass anymore, I crack him 90% of the time and they are totally unnecessary, the underneath control panel has a high-gloss coating on it anyway so you definitely don't even need the Plexi

Tip here for those who are watching this. You do not need to buy an amp. The LCD board has an amplified input. It isn't the aux cable input, it is the 4 pin connector right above that. You simply need to cut the male aux end off the speakers and connect a 4 pin connector to that. The AUX wire has 4 wires inside. 2 black (ground 1 white and 1 red (left and right speakers). The 2 black go in the center while the red going on top and the white on the bottom. If you mix the white and red, that is fine. This isn't surround sound and all the sound comes out at once so you wouldn't notice if the left and right were mixed but thought I would let you know the correct way any ways. So you bought 80 bucks worth of buttons and now you have a crap load of extra stuff laying around. Look at your old joy sticks most of the come with 4 pin connectors. Cut it off and leave yourself some room for mistakes by cutting near the base so you have plenty of wire. Now all you have to do of course if strip the wires and connect them in the correct way. The color of the wire does not matter on the joy stick. You just want to make sure whatever wire is going to be plugged into the top pin is connected to the red and the bottom pin is connected to the white. The corresponding ground wires go in the middle. Layout [(r)(g)(g)(w)] If the 4 pin connector from the joy stick is too big, you can literally just removed the white plastic from the side of the pins on the the LCD board. So long as the correct wires are touching the correct pins and there is enough conductivity, it will sound very very loud. Just as a usual TV would. Hope this made sense. If you are savvy this should shed some light regardless. This is if you want to use the stock speakers. I can't really think of a reason why would would want low quality sound pumping out of nice speakers but to each their own. The stock speakers sound just fine and the LCD amp works great.

What I don't understand, is why everyone goes with the amp? Couldn't a person just hook up a male audio plug, and plug it directly to the Pi, or would the audio not be loud enough?
@arcadepickers1682

No it would definitely not be loud enough and I am an audio guy so my cabinets are extremely loud when I want them to be so I just go with this particular out because it's Bluetooth that way I can play my music from my phone like a jukebox or I can crank it when I want to play games really loud with Bass because I also have a subwoofer in it

I’m new to this so fair warning. Just curious when you play your turtle games are they the games that were programmed into the marching or do you have to play the ones on your raspberry pi? Is there a way to switch between the factory game and your mod games?

@arcadepickers1682
@arcadepickers1682 4 жыл бұрын
So this is kind of a confusing question because Ninja Turtles only uses two buttons jumped and attack if you're talking about Street Fighter that's a totally different ball game but all you have to do is switch the USB inputs on the Raspberry Pi there are four inputs total on the Raspberry Pi in each one represents player one through four so you can switch those out an experiment to find out which one is Player 1 2 3 and 4 and plug those in a cordingley and they will adjust on the screen exactly how you have them plugged in hopefully this help you out

Hey buddy, all & all this is a good video. You really done a pretty good job. To an utter beginner (me) it's a very helpful video, to PI mod a TMNT A1up cabinet . I used this video for almost my whole 1st build. This vid could use a few more details added, to be a complete 100% DIY, for 1st timers though. I really, really appreciate your work at attempting to make this vid a 1 all, instruct all. I still needed to use 2 other tutorial vids to write the image. At this moment, I'm stuck at configuring the buttons. I don't have a usb controller etc. right now & would asked that you please show/tell how to configure the buttons/controls etc., to add to your/this comprehensive vid. I come to you, because of just how this vid is IMO about 80% complete as the most extensive 1 and done, only tutorial needed, vid. So that it's a 100% complete "how to for dummies." What do I need to do to configure buttons, so that I can finally finish my TMNT arcade 1up build. FYI, I have all the same hardware installed, that you linked. I have the wolfanoz 32gb arcade only image though. I'm stuck at this moment trying to figure out how to get the controls right. Could you please explain how to configure buttons etc? Thank you, for this video & all your help

Yes I've been hearing that a lot, you can actually use any 2.1 amplifier on Amazon or Ebay just make sure that it has a spot for the subwoofer and the right and left speakers and make sure you order the correct power source it will usually tell you on the link which power source to buy usually it's a 12-volt, as far as the four-player arcade kit there is another one available on Amazon it just has slightly different buttons and joysticks but any of them will work the same way

I must have missed something, where was the step of wiring up the buttons and the new joysticks? There was an empty control panel and then they were all in there and in place. Also, is it possible to use the factory speakers and volume and power switches?
@arcadepickers1682
@arcadepickers1682 4 жыл бұрын
Yep those steps were in the middle of the video.... Yes the fa tory speakers will blow with loud volume ...they are very low quality You can wire the volume and power but it is not part of this tutorial ... The wired ha e to be spliced into the correct plugs for these encoders to work

@@arcadepickers1682 The buttons and joysticks seem to just magically show up in the control deck here - kzbin.info/www/bejne/nWrHYqZmepabhq8 , but I don't see anywhere in the video where you're adding them individually or wiring them up. I also didn't see the diagram you mentioned....I wonder if my player is skipping parts of the build.
@arcadepickers1682
@arcadepickers1682 4 жыл бұрын
So you're right I didn't actually do that on camera because I had to use both hands but all I did was push the buttons through from the topside and screw the washer on the backside the joysticks screwed into the same olds that the other one were in so no drilling required then it was just positive negative on each button and positive negative on each LED light on each button and the diagram comes with the buttons in the package from Amazon and you will see me show what it looks like a couple of times in the video all you have to do is make sure you put each button in the same slot on each decoder example button a for player 1 2 3 and 4 goes in slot one on the decoder button be for Player 1 2 3 4 goes in Slot 2 Etc.......

@@arcadepickers1682 thanks. One last question (I'm a newbie here, got my TMNT cabinet coming tomorrow), if I dont want to hook up the power for the LED's, can that just remain unhooked, or are they required to be plugged in?
@arcadepickers1682
@arcadepickers1682 4 жыл бұрын
@@MatrixPrime no you can definitely leave them on hooked they are on a separate power source so if you just want to use the buttons no problem much easier to hook up just positive and negative on each button and you're done

Hello, what a great job you did! I just got into modding and I’m about 3 years too late on this video. Some of The products you have listed are no longer available…Is there any chance that you could possibly update the list??? I know it might not be possible but if you can I’d love to mod my Simpson’s cabinet!

@arcadepickers1682

It definitely is however I do not have any experience in that, I've heard it is very finicky and very hard to maintain accuracy.... what I do recommend is getting an RCA to HDMI converter then you can plug your Nintendo Wii into the HDMI with a splitter on the back then you can play any of the shooting games by we by simply placing the bar from the Wii on top of your arcade1up now you can play games like House of the Dead silent scope and hunting games with no problems whatsoever and you have several options of different sizes and shapes of guns to put your Wii mote in

I've read about the importance of having the same number of buttons set up in the same spots on each encoder, so does having 8 buttons for players 1 and 2 and having only 4 for players 3 and 4 mess anything up?
@arcadepickers1682
@arcadepickers1682 4 жыл бұрын
So it doesn't matter because you have plenty of spaces on the encoder you just have to make sure that the players that have extra buttons have those buttons in the same spot as well obviously on the encoder for the players that have less buttons those spots will be left blank

Good details here! I have a TMNT Turtles in Time A1up that I am currently modding. Trying to figure out a safe way to power off the monitor. What do your power off steps look like? Do you just flip the power switch on the surge protector strip? Do you hit the power button the VSDISPLAY controller? Do you safely power off you Pi first?

Good job on everything. I have a mk2 1up arcade that I was gonna mod but I thought what for space is limited and I said I could build one better and really customize it, so I did.. believe it or not I built mine for cheaper then you bought all your parts.. I occasionally will help people with there builds or when people ask if they should buy an arcade cabinet I ask them a few questions and 1 being are they plan to mod it..? Some say yeah then I say it’ll be cheaper for you to build your own. You’ll spend about 3 bills on the machine and if you don’t know where to get the items you’ll pay more for them and end up spending another 3-4 hundred. Will all that you can almost buy a real arcade machine. I eventually want to get a cheap 50$ machine and just use the sides and put a bigger screen and ect and show people it can be done most only work in a small space they confine themselves to the small specs of the machine itself. I built mine with a 32lcd HDMI tv then bought 1 sheet of mdf 3/4 and I almost built the whole machine just with that sheet alone.. If you can do this bro I have a good feeling you can build your own from scratch , you should try it one day.. But I commend you on you trying to hit every detail bcuz your right most can’t explain right or in detail what there tryin to say. You did a great job.. much respect ✊🏽

There is a company 99 lives arcade that can make you a new joystick deck with a pi in it ready to go but it costs like $700. There are new revised 4 player Konami games coming out this fall with wi-fi like Turtles in Time, The Simpsons, and X-Men. I wonder if the pcb’s are interchangeable between the old TMNT and the Simpsons? Then I could get the Simpsons and dismantle my TMNT cabinet or keep the TMNT assembled and swap pcb’s and put the Simpsons in it. I have limited room for more cabinets and I only have around 6 big ones, TMNT, MK that I modded with an X-Arcade stick, a Carnevil cabinet that I have yet to set up with the guns and roms, Outrun, a Cruis’n USA mod with an N64, a Toyshock Haunted House pinball, and Pac-Man countercade.
