Hi everyone! Thanks Ed for such an amazing time! Yes we are working with Super 7 now, so stay tuned and we'll be able to share more information as to what we are working on when the toys come out! Follow this channel and @varnerstudios on IG if you're interested in what we do! I'm working non stop on the book and we're hoping to have it out by Comic Con 2022! Thanks again everyone for all the love and thank you Ed again! -Tanner

@@EdsRetroGeekOut This was such an awesome video. Mere words cannot express how much fun this was! Thanks Ed for doing this. And thanks to the Varner's for all their creative work over the years! It was so awesome to see all 3 of you get excited & share your love of toys. Kind of like an ultimate show & tell but with really cool toys!

Thanks so much for taking the time to do the interview. You guys do amazing work :) Can't see what you guys have cooking with Super7. I suggested to Super7 that they release some of the toys that had not been done in figure form in a vintage style like how they did with their He-Ro and Eldor for MOTU so hopefully we will see some TMNT. I hope what I wrote is clear if not you can reference the Super7 Eldor and He-Ro.

Those concept illustrations are awesome. They should make a book with that and all promotional artwork for publication. I would totally buy that and I'm sure everyone who's a fan of the tmnt would as well. Great video.

We are! We’ll be publishing multiple sketchbook volumes to go along with our history of the studio book we’re working on right now!

Michael Dooney is one of the oldest artists to work on TMNT. He also did a lot of work for TMNT Adventures from Archie Comics throughout the '90s and I also believe he did some work for the Image TMNT series as well. He is actually one of the first artists that Peter and Kevin hired to help with the TMNT comic back in 1986. I had no idea he helped design some of the toys but it does not surprise me.

Great interview! It's so fascinating learning about the process behind making the toys. And I've been following them on Instagram for a little while now and I always enjoy seeing their posts pop up feed.

I loved the detail in those original Playmate TMNT figures. I do think one reason why TMNT took off was because it hit at the right time. As in the late 80's, Transformers, He-Man, GI Joe, etc. were all dying. And so there was pretty much just TMNT and Ghostbusters. And TMNT had it mostly by themselves from 87 to like 93 as the only other big thing of that time was Batman.

For people who loved Far Cry 5, Varner Studios made the Joseph Seed statue from the PS4 Farcry 5 Father Collector’s Edition package. Absolutely fantastic sculpt on that, if you want to look at it on their official site. I'm also a huge fan of the Diamond Select statues, so many DC figures, from my favorite style, the more Bruce Timm inspired stuff. SO GOOD!

What a master of toy design and sculpture. So many Incredible prototypes showcased in this interview. It’s a crying shame those unproduced toys can’t get a release for a modern market. Can’t wait for the history of Varner studios art book. Great interview, so insightful 👏👏👏

When the 2012 series started my oldest son was 3. There being a new cartoon with the first wave of toys looking really good, I was so excited for him to have a turtles series all his own like when I was a kid. Then as they mentioned the quality started to dip and the line didn’t get to be as creative. Knowing now that Nickelodeon was putting them on a short leash it makes sense now.

Varner studios seem to be just awesome, down to earth humble fans themselves. So cool they back the guys making figures off their prototypes. They also seem to be some of the few that are able to show a figure on KZbin correctly and visibly hahaha. Can’t wait to buy their book and see more whacky creations.

Double commenting here, but I would buy prints of some of those figure concept sketches. No joke. Would love to have them on my wall.
