Comparison: Blitzway Voltron VS Bandai SOC Voltron

I Cartoon accurate the Bandai is superior. While is true that Blitzway added the panels to hide the lion legs, it has a big proportion problem. The torso is too long offsetting the fact that has long legs. Also the head a bit long and don’t quite fit at well as the Bandai. Proportion wise the Bandai looks more accurate

I think what this comparison video shows is we have amazing options to fulfill our childhood memories of these series. From Voltron, Transformers, GI Joe, Macross, Silverhawks, Thundercats, etc we have amazing masterpiece figures for our collections. I really appreciate these videos because multiple times they’ve helped me pick figures and to date I’ve never regretted any decision. Thanks for doing this verses TM because now I’m positive I want the Blitzway because it’s incredible I just need time to save the money! Great job as always!

I think when I look at the Blitzway figure, I don't think of it as a competitor for the MP line. The Voltron from Soul of Chogokin is Bandai's equivalent of Takara's MP line BUT Bandai has a Deluxe line of their Soul of Chogokin series. This DX line started with a Mazinger Z for $400, a Great Mazinger for $500, Combattler for $500 and the Voltes V for $700. I think this is the reason why people found it hard to justify the price, even if the Blitzway was bigger. They were comparing it in the wrong category. I would invite people to find youtube reviews of the Voltes V or Mazinger Z Soul of Chogokin DX line and you will see that the Blitzway was meant for this category. The amount of accessories, the gimmicks and even the base presentation just screams DX. I never bought the SOC Voltron because at the time it was selling at $400, before the copes and re-release came out and I had started collecting the DX line. When Blitzway announced their Voltron, it was an instant buy, no-brainer. However, Bandai really did a good job on their SOC just as this comparison shows. It is the basis where the DX line catapults off. The Blitzway really is meant to be the ultimate version of Voltron.

Very well done. Thanks. I will always love my SOC Voltron, but the Blitzway is on a whole other level and is priced accordingly. Actually, maybe not because many of the aftermarket prices have the SOC Voltron almost the same price as the Blitzway. Yes, Blitzway is newer but that does not always mean a company will make the product better. It would be interesting to see if Bandai comes out with a DX Voltron but in some ways it looks like Bandai has partnered with Blitzway on this release or in the very least is looks like there is no bad blood between the companies so this might be their DX Voltron as well. With so many of the iconic combining robots being done justice in modern toy form I really hope someone does a collector grade Might Orbots toy. That would be amazing. Again, thanks for the comparison.

I am a huge fan of Voltron and own many different takes on this set. I have both of the sets mentioned in this comparison and love both. I do believe the SOC Voltron was trying to mimic the Matchbox 84 to version as well as the toon. Kind of a hybrid. This comparison is wonderful for those who only want one or the other, or can’t afford both. Price is still a factor as long as it is still within reason. This video has made appreciate what I do have more now. Both are great choices, if you swing it get both. Great review looking forward to the next one!!!!!

I was never a Voltron fan, but that Blitzway was tempting. It is just such a good looking figure. I prefer the proportions better on the Blitzway, and the finishing touches, such as covering the legs in bot mode. Thank-you for the review Sony. Great comparison, both versions are great interpretations of Voltron. Personally I prefer Blitzways proportions and overall look especially how they hide the legs of the lions in combined mode. The one thing I don’t like is the grey plastic weapons for the lions, some paint would have really made it premium with the rest of the set. D love to get the blitzway set however even though I think it’s good I don’t think it collectively justifies the price unfortunately.

imo the SOC is a better value. for the price of a Blitszway you can get two sets of SOC..one lion and other Vehicle. i do plan on getting a Blitzway in future but im currently saving up for a Dino Megazoid which also cost $700!

I personally think the blitzway looks to long in the chest area. I like how the soc is proportioned. The blitzway is way to narrow looking. Too me that's not cartoon accurate.

I just got my SoG Dairugger XV Vehicle Voltron (it rocks!)and I want the SoG GoLion so they scale together but the big thing that puts me off is the hole in the back of the leg. I do like the stand for the leaping lions that Blitzway offers. I will probably end up getting the BW Voltron and hope the do a similar scale Vehicle Voltron to go with it. (Besides, Lion Voltron is my favorite and it'd be cool to have a really big one , especially since it's so well done.)

I think the comparison while interesting isn't really an apples to apples comparison and I have both. If Bandai decides one day to release a SOC DX version of Golion, I think that's when it'll be a more accurate comparison. Having said that, great points and appreciate the time and effort in sharing your thoughts on both amazing figures and what a time to be a child from the 80s.

I had purchased the SOC a while back and am fairly pleased with it. I also have the car version. Both are the same height so the larger blitzway wouldn't work for me. Wonder if Blitzway has plans for the vehicle force as well.

finally pull this out of its pkg last night and I think its a great looking figure.. I like how they trimmed down the black lion look and it works well with the proportions in bot mode too imo. I wish three zero release payed more attention to this, its a great figure but their black lion so big like SOC and original release..

The CROSS on the Chest is DIFFERENT on Both! The Blitzway has a Crucifix (this is the correct way) and the Chokogin has an X (which is an attempt to downplay the Christian influence (Lion = Lion of the Tribe of Judah, The Cross is in Reference to Jesus....in this Cartoon King Alfor is this type, The Crown signifying King Of Kings Lord Of Lords AKA Voltron is the King Of Robots etc...).... The creator of GoLion mentioned Christianity was his influence for some of the Design. I appreciate people respecting the Source Material and Blitzway has done this more definitely. I do like the Ridges behind the X on the Chokogin on the colors behind the X which is more cartoon accurate which the Blitzway does not have.....also the Red Border around the Crest/Emblem on his chest in the Blitzway one is angled in for some reason...I guess they though that looked cool.

SOC golion was revolutionary from all predecessors. Blitzway may be a better unit but i believe SOC set the bar and is the original and best modern voltron. Blitzway and 3zero are replicas of the SOC with sales gimicks / improvements. To beat the SOC, it must be next level. Let me know if you agree or not? Cheers

Good comparison. Thorough enough to make a decision. Even though you had Blitzway win 6 out of the 7 categories, cost in the end won it for me. I ended up buying a 2nd SOC instead of getting the Blitzway. I don't think those 6 category wins was justified for the extra $400. You can take off $100 I guess because of size diff and materials but since Blitzway is 2022 and SOC is 2016, that's 6 years difference to make it better than SOC which was expected... That extra $300 doesn't do it for me.

The Blitzway knees don't seem to hold the position in any video I've seen. They probably should've used a locking mechanism on them due to the weight. I think a point should've been deducted for that.

I think you have to showcase the pilots inside in alt mode, and the point goes to Blitzway, but it doesn't change the outcome either way. Personally if I already had the SOC, I probably wouldn't buy the Blitzway if I wasn't a hardcore collector, but if I had neither, I'd still throw down the $700 and choose the Blitzway.

this is a credit to the soc voltron. Personally I have 0 interest in Voltron but to be able to compete with Blitzway (who did some cool stuff) that is newer and more expensive even though the score doesnt reflect it. The differences are a bunch of "minuscule" things

I think this comparison isn't about which one is better, but rather if both are worth their asking price. $300 is a lot of money for a high end figure. SOC is known to give high quality products and for BW to ask for twice the price, it needs to deliver on about everything.

I think chogokin has better proportions overall from the face, and head, to the arms legs and ratio of upper to lower legs….Japan really still has the golden proportions and their sensibility for giant robots is still unrivaled. Blur way has cooler gimmicks, but bandai has a better look

I understand that both of these Voltron's are MP but this comparison is equivalent to Transformers MP & mainline & here's why... although mainline figures are on store shelves & give the illusion they're for kids, it's impossible because there aren't any kids that can remember G1...all G1 interpretations are for adult chug collecting & we Kno these products are marketed for us...this is the same thing because at double+ the cost Blitzway should destroy any competition...could they do what they did at a Soul of Chogokin price point?? I love the look & features of Blitzway Voltron but this isn't for all collectors due to the price poin which is the same way chug collectors see MP...u have to have a lot of disposable income to purchase this AMAZING figure...all that said, I love the videos...

bw is more symmetrical figure, but in soc blue and black lions look aesthetically better. a big problem in bw are the articulations in hands to hold weapons. could be improved this aspect. good video man

I have the blitz Voltron and I like it but I think the price is a little steep considering I got my auto convert Optimus prime for only $100 more and it’s about the same size but a well-built robot with motors etc. This Voltron should’ve been between 399 and 499, 699 to me was expensive, I bought it because Voltron was one of my favorite toys growing up matter fact still have the metal one from the 80s. But still think 699 is over priced considering Optimus prime is only 799 completely metal and does way way more. I love both of them obviously I own both, but if could only choose one, it would go to Optimus prime

Very close…I do like the Bandai head a bit better…black lions jaw goes all the way into the body and it has a neck. I also like the ears/horns better on the Bandai, though I think the face of the Blitzway looks better.

Well both fail on cartoon portion when it comes to the size of the head of the arms and leg lions! I know it cant be helped cause itll just look ridiculous in lion form, But that can be a easy fix being that the heads do detect by swapping larger head verion in voltron mode. If only one of these two companies or both could produce and sell it as a added custom accessory

The blitzway voltron is awesome in quality . I got my first one I got another one coming it's bragging it's saving. The argument that the comparison between blitzway and bandi is ridiculous because 3 zero is putting out the same figure blitzway put out in a smaller scale. My point is simply, the best reputation of voltron has been reached. If another company comes along and does a better job of the Mattel voltron that works . That with be the ultimate voltron, until then alot of s.o.g. voltron are going up for sale.

Not fair & ridiculous comparison. I heard your reasoning at the end but I still disagree x10. It's half the size & almost 1/3rd the price. How can you rationalize that? Now I will give credit to you for thoroughly pointing out each difference, so the video has value. Still they're not MP Transformers designed to fit a certain scale & general price. They're 1 off's. You don't score a CHUG against an MP & that's probably because it's not going after the same market. These are not either. It's like scoring the $250-300 DX ThreeZero figs to the premium $750 ThreeZero figs that are monster sized. Both ThreeZero figs are trying to be the "definitive version" in their respective price/scale bracket just like these 2 Voltrons. You wouldn't score a Lambo versus a Sonata, yet both are trying to be the "definitive" vehicle in their market. You instead would score via points/categories a Lambo to a Lotus & a Sonata to a Camry. Idc or anything & I'm not bitching. Just giving feedback. The SOC was DOA from the jump. A better format if u want to do this again would be.. A. Lose the "VS" title & call it "What You Get For the Money." B. Skip the scoring.

I dislike the leg covers. I get what they are doing, making it cartoon accurate but its the toy i loved. So i love the SOC the best. The flying lions display is a bit cringe too imo. I wish the SOC was closer to the the original for eg, yellow lion ears came out etc. I would also pay diecast everything, that would be awesome!
