John has battled depression since his college days. While medications provided some help, the side effects were unbearable. That’s when John discovered a non-invasive treatment called transcranial magnetic stimulation, or TMS to treat depression.
Researchers at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center helped develop the technology, which changes a patient’s brain activity without surgery. In addition to being used to treat depression, TMS has also been applied to other disorders including severe pain, epilepsy, stroke, and Parkinson's disease.

TMS destroyed my life. Sold as a treatment or therapy for profits. Cuts off parts of the brain temporarily treated my depression causes long term brain damage more depression and anxiety after you partially recover from the TMS brain disconnecting. This is a last resort for suicidal psychotic patients and murderers in prison! These machines are evil and need to be destroyed, you mite as well torcher patients charge there insurance a bunch of money and call it therapy treatment because that’s what it is. Research other alternatives DO NOT EVER GET TMS!

It is now FDA approved for OCD, so insurance will pay for it. The problem is you need to live in a drivable range to a place that provides it. The one for OCD Is different from the one for depression. There are a lot of the ones for depression out there, but not many for OCD. I only found one for OCD in our entire state. It is a daily treatment for 5 weeks.

I have been getting this for a week now, with five more weeks to go. So far, no improvement in my mood. For those considering it, be aware that it is not "painless", as advertised. It is not excruciating by any means, but it's a bizarre, discomfiting feeling. It feels like a jackhammer on the right side of one's head, and I have experienced a bit of nerve pain in one tooth during the procedure. I have had no side effects, but apparently headaches are common.

It is FDA approved for depression and OCD. insurance should pay. My son is getting 30 treatments for 20 minutes each. Out of pocket cost for us would be 7,650. If you are looking for one for depression there are a lot of them.. the ones for OCD are very limited. It is a different machine that uses a different current level or something or different spot, not sure. There are several different machines like Nero star and brainway. I think there are around 5 and they have different protocols. There are hundreds of studies currently using this for other conditions. You could also look for a research study if you live in a big city with a teaching hospital.

When it comes to the brain and affecting its normal operation, disrupting its functions more less, then there really is a huge risk involved I would think. Also I think it is probably a lot safer than ECT but like I said anything directly impacting brain function is just a recipe for disaster I think. Maybe I am wrong.

as a nurse we learned that when someone is depressed and then suddenly gets energy (like because they were treated with meds or TMS) they now have the energy to commit suicide. There is a window where you go from depressed with suicidal thoughts to not depressed with energy to take action BEFORE you are able to reach a level of RECOVERY and not be suicidal. I am sorry for the loss of your relative but it was likely not TMS "making it worse" it sounds like your relative was getting better if she had the energy to take action on her thoughts. I wish she reached out to someone beforehand.
@FMmusic5
@FMmusic5 3 жыл бұрын
@@jennifernanda7881 I have read that too about antidepressants meds. She tried everything. Six years of trying pills. Was thinking of trying ECT but we discouraged that. Then she did the brain stimulation and suicide. She had stopped doing it for about a month because she felt worse then killed herself. She talked to family every day so she wasn't isolated. Also had a therapist.

Dear, I'm going to say this as nicely as possible - shut the fuck up. You clearly don't know what you are talking about. ECT uses electricity. TMS uses magnetic force to ignite an electrical response in the brain. It does not cause the memory loss that ECT does. TMS works, and it saves lives. Do you have severe treatment resistant depression? If not, then kindly don't say negative and ignorant things that could discourage people who desperately need help to consider this. It may save their life. But if they listen to the bullshit that you are spewing, they may not ever get treatment and kill themselves. These are people's lives. Tread lightly.
