Good demo! With good examples, and comparably high-quality popular Bach horns. The side-by-side demo is awesome, but, the lack of editorial is absolutely perfect. Let the sound be your guide. Great job - Thanks. PS: I play on a 43LT from the 80's with a tunnable bell and swap between the 43 (legit) and a 229 bell (lead). But for me the 50yr 37 is awesome, and I’d buy it and manage the tone darkness through my mouthpiece selections. The problem with the 43 is you will have a hard time getting it to sound like a 37 but you can get 37 to sound like the 43, especially with a swappable bell setup.

150th Anniversary with a 37 bell compared to a 43 bell. Interesting. Wonder which I would prefer? Probably the 190 37. But I haven't had the chance to play them. I do love my B&S Challenger II 3137/2 S (regular leadpipe). I am so happy with its ability to achieve my dream sound in real life. Would be great to compare the 3 makes/models (and some other serious ones) over a 3 month period, but alas... I am not made of money, thus cannot afford to purchase all of them and make a fair comparison.

Two years ago, I bought a Bach Stradivarius LR180S37. I've been playing trumpet since 1953, so I've owned and played a lot of them. I was warned that Bach quit making decent trumpets after the 2006 strike. It is true. Valves stick, no one can solve that problem, and the silver plating began to pit within the first few months. So, if you want to have a Bach, get one circa 1977-2002.

Hi, great test! In your experience, how consistent are the horns of this model? In other words, are they all very similar? Thank you.
@rgorthuis3 жыл бұрын
obviously, an excellent trumpeter. the difference can be heard in the fanfare towards end of video. 37 has the better tone. a larger room would demo this more clearly. no mention of mouthpiece, but surmise it is a 1.25c or 1.5c. myself, I am better able to discern between horns if I use a Bach 2C (a very large mp) and play a slow legato piece ranging from bottom G to high C.

Why not use two silver horns or two lacquer horns? That would have been a better side by side sound test.

But what’s the actual physical difference between the 37 & 43?
@iriskeniafernandez4 жыл бұрын
The taper on the horn at the end not the width of the bell, but the round part before the bell, the 43 is wider, and the 37 is thinner

I've owned two of them. The first was stuffy, and so I sold it. Two years later I gave another one a try. It's not stuffy at all, and I thoroughly enjoy playing it. I don't know why the first one was and the second one not, but the difference is night and day.
