Every now & then a tune is constructed way before it's time. The time is definitely not up here! Did this band do any other songs that you or your hubby can remember? This should have been a smash but a tiny label from Grand Rapids couldn't compete against the GIANTS

This was the first song i heard on your channel right around the time you first made it. Im 51, and for literal decades i thought i was one of the only ones who listened to, and loved all things Heavy Psych and Hard Rock. Old enough to shake my cane at computers and youtube, young enough to revel in the absolute magic they are for things such as this.

This is an early rock anthem before the phrase was coined Ripping guitar, early shredding before that phrase was coined The flip perfectly compliments the plug side. I've never heard of this band so I wouldn't know the plug side but I do know that both sides of this 45 are hard rock JAMS !

RYM (rateyourmusic.com/release/single/tns/times-up-telling-your-fortune/): TNS Also Known As: The TNS Blues Band Formed: Grand Rapids, MI, United States Members: Allen Martinez (vocals), Steve Barkwell (bass), Dave Dehoog (drums), Randy Nichols (guitar) Time's Up / Telling Your Fortune (1972) ".... Alternately they used the acronym to mean Take No Shit, Tougher'N Shit - or for the wedding receptions - simply The Nichols Sound. ....'Telling Your Fortune' is a cover of the Chicken Shack song from 1970 Supposedly 500 copies were pressed."
@impalaman97072 жыл бұрын
I'm impressed that they knew a song by Chicken Shack! I mean, that's a stonkin' tune, but that's one of those UK bands like the Groundhogs or the Edgar Broughton Band that should have been more popular in the States but weren't!

Short answer: record companies were starting to suck, even in those days ...is usually the reason why. i wasn't around, but I've seen it with so many bands of the time...like dragonfly from colorado, they got to make their album but it got no recognition until recently

Opinions of music are of course subjective and I suppose even how one identifies a piece of music is somewhat as well, but to me and virtually everyone I know into such music, calling this psych (which is of course short for psychedelic) is really off-base. This is simply heavy rock and that's not bad or limiting, is it? The term psych is way miss-used and over-used, especially by those who have the record/CD/cassette/etc. to sell, trade or post. I suspect calling something psych instead of what it really is gets it more clicks. The more clicks the more possible customers (a positive for the person doing the presentation), but I would think that the more clicks based on misidentification would lead to more disappointed customers (a negative). In my opinion no more than 10-15% of the so-called psych I've heard (easily more than 5000 artists' works) isn't psychedelic at all, or perhaps is for just a passage, minute or short track - not enough to warrant the psych tag. Typically the works I'm referring to are actually garage rock, plain rock, heavy rock, blues rock, folk rock and sometimes simply folk or progressive rock - all good enough types of music on their own. It seems to me the term psych is easily the most miss-used of all. Sometimes the only psychedelic quality of the item in question is its cover art.
