Mike, I have watched you deal with so many problems over the years from combine fires, clogged augers, drought, equipment problems and that’s just the start. But you always have a great attitude and live up to the name Faith-Hope-Farms. You keep the faith and are always hopeful for a good outcome. It’s why I began watching your channel and it’s the reason I keep coming back. Have a blessed day😊

The anti-gel needs to be mixed before it freezes. Just dumped into a cold tank it sits on top of the jelly, and even if mixed mechanically it won't dissolve the wax crystals because its job is to prevent crystallization starting from the liquid state. (The gel is really a network of micro-crystals holding the remaining liquid, sort of like a sponge.) There is an optional additive used in jet fuel to prevent dissolved moisture from freezing out (big brand name is Prist), not really about gel but the ice crystals can clog the fuel filter. JetA is basically No 1 fuel oil that was dewaxed to -40 (Jet-A1 is -47) , and they still put the oil coolers in the tanks and further heating the fuel lines just before the fuel filter, and have minimum idle-power requirements while at altitude for sufficient heat. Though Jet A makes fewer assurances of lubrication than "diesel".

If my memory serves me correctly Winter diesel has less oil content than Summer diesel does. I learned that by watching your farm video where 3 Super B fuel tankers arrived at the South Farm to replenish your supplies. I recall the driver had a huge wealth of experience & very kindly explained the whole process which was very kind of him.😀
@JaredJanhsen15 күн бұрын
It's the paraffin content in the Diesel fuel. In extreme temps the paraffin begins to crystalize and tries to become candle wax. Winter climate Diesel blends have far less paraffin in them. My maternal grandfather had to deal with gelled diesel a ton farming in Illinois. My dad's dad ran gasoline and LPG tractors to deal with Amarillo winters. Amarillo can look a lot like Saskatchewan during the winter, just far fewer days of it in a year.
@Sicktrickintuner15 күн бұрын
#2 diesel has a higher hydrocarbon molecule size. Winter diesel is basically 50/50 #1 which is kerosene that has lighter hydrocarbons but will evaporate in the summer temperatures. Also kerosene has less btu’s per litre/gallon.

Mike, I used to drive an 18 wheeler, and if I couldn’t get winter diesel, I would put about 2 gallons of unleaded gas and 2 qts of automatic transmission fluid per 100 gallons of diesel, and that did the trick. The unleaded thinned the diesel and the trans fluid put the lubrication back into it.
